@MandM246 agreed, but even a toy gun that is reminicent of a real gun is illegal to carry in public because it can be used to intimidate someone as if it were a real weapon; which is why you don't walk around with a paintball gun. "Treat every gun as it it were loaded" still applies to firearms like items i.e. airsoft, crossbows, etc. even if they don't fire anything, because the person being aimed at might not know that and neither do the police across the street. Otherwise have fun with them:)
i'm 15 i'm very responsible with firearms and i unload guns at the range before i head home when i get home the guns go in my closet with a trigger lock or an action lock and any remaining ammo i lock in a metal box most kids would keep the gun loaded and probably end up shooting themthemselves
but i've learned not to have a loaded gun at all and i only point a gun at someoene if the gun is unloaded and there is trigger guard so that the gun will never be accidently dischared and deadly
@bobbert890: I'm glad to see your interest in shooting sports and applaud your safety efforts. I'm concerned with the statement, "and i only point a gun at someone if the gun is unloaded...". The act of someone accidentally getting shot starts with a gun being pointed at them. If you find it necessary to point a gun at someone buy a toy gun. Never point a real gun at someone regardless of how "safe" it might be. It's just bad practice. Other than that, you're on the right track. Happy shooting!
@bobbert890 You are violating the 1st rule of gun safety: "always treat a gun as if it were loaded." I don't know how many people are killed each years by friends with "unloaded" guns, but it is lot. Didn't you watch this clip?
@ZeBigStrat Ok.I'll translate into English + or-: If you point the gun down, will hit its own foot, friend! Use google translator from English to Portuguese. Hug!
@LJVolkov21 Não me ofendi, João. Meus comentários talvez sejam despojados demais...Me per-doe! Ótimo final de semana à você e todos seus familiares! Abraço.
@ZeBigStrat He was trying to warn you not to shoot yourself in the foot. :P
You are right, in a way, about "always point gun down range" falling into the "always treat gun as loaded" section. But I think the reason why these rules are separate is because treating a gun as if it's loaded includes more than just pointing it in the least dangerous direction. There are so many things you might forget, like leaving a round in the chamber after you're done... Happened to me once... :S
@Selkie15 it means taht if you shoot for example at papertargets.. make sure.. the bullet stops, and noone will get injured... means that you have to make sure.. that if you shoot at something make sure the bullet will either not go through or nobody is behind it!
Excuse my ignorance, but what is "dry firing"? I'm from the UK and as you probably know, the recreational use of fire arms is EXTREMELY limited so I don't know much about it all.
I'd like to know as much as possible, it'll be useful for the inevitable zombie invasion *seriousface*
Dry firing is when you practice with a gun that has no bullets in it or has dummy bullets. You can practice handling, aiming and shooting except it goes click instead of boom. If you come to the US, there are lots of classes you can take which are about 4 hours long and after class you go shooting. I took my son when he was 17 but there were kids as young as 8 years old. Britain is almost impossible to own a gun but I will tell you when you do it gives you a tremendous sense of self-reliance.
It's my pet hate people not knowing those simple (or similar) rules. When we were out duck shooting one day, my friend was going for his first time. He never had the shotgun broken down, he also had it loaded. Never had the safety on. NOTHING.
I will practice dry firing many times to save money on ammo... i can buy 45 cal. ammo online for about 20 bucks for a 50 round FMJ wolf ammo. also save money by finding a a deserted area in the desert to practice shooting.
If everyone were to learn how to shoot safely, this country would be a much better place. I'm not just talking about self defense of politics here. Learning to shoot safely, in my experience, teaches people how to think and use common sense. So much of shooting and gun safety is common sense. Learning to utilize those skills and methods can help you in all aspects of your life. For example, some of the safest drivers I know are safe shooters.
So many gun owners dont fallow those very simple rules, there is so many accidents each year because people dont take guns seriously.
If you respect your weapon, are aware of the power it can have and fallow those rules anytime you handle a firearm then you are a responsable gun owner.
Also it's good to talk about ear and eyes protection, I hear many people saying like "you dont need protection for the .22" even a low caliber can dammage your ears especialy if you shoot inside.
"Keep your finger off the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot." Don't you mean on? I keep my finger extended, rested on the trigger guard, and then put my finger in the trigger guard when I'm ready to shoot.
Thanks for the video. Short but educating.

I guess he forgot ''gun always pointing down range''. but this could fall in the ''treat every gun as if it were loaded'' section too.

Earth, dense tree growth,... something behind the target that will stop the bullets.

No, what I meant to say was keep your finger off the trigger. That's why this one is an outtake.
