  • Kingfishers have to be my all time favourite bird, shame they are hard to spot :( They ofter whiz down the river next to my house, all you can see is a blur of brilliant blue.

  • Usually you hear them coming with a shrill cry. If you stay still, they may land near and you'll get a better view.

  • Thats a nice bird :)

  • wow so lucky, my parents get buzzards and sparrow hawks in the garden sometimes they live down south.

  • we get plenty of sparowhawks when we start feeding the smaller birds in the winter. Our garden becomes a bit of a murder hole so I try to put the feeders where the sparrowhawks won't be able to swoop in easily. There are loads or red kites around our area also.

  • Magnificent Bird! Thanks for sharing.

    The Pond Digger

  • The cormorants don't get shot with film......

  • that wasn't bad filming at all

    very nice bird

do u get mad when they eat your fry?

  • There are plenty in there as I have roach, rudd and bream and they produce thousands of fry each year.

  • thats good

its like watch NAtional Geography in your backyard then

  • We get pretty much everything in the garden except grass snakes. The habitat has been made for them but they are yet to show up (we live at the northern range of their distribution)

  • oh i see what part of Enland do you live in

glad that you make a habittat for all those animals

  • I live in North East, about 15 miles west of Newcastle - God's country

  • oh up north

    sure seems like it

  • Won't the neighbours flip if grass snakes started showing up at ther doors asking for directions to your pond?

  • My nearest neighbour is about 1/4 mile away and he killed a grass snake many years ago. It was the only one seen for miles around and none have been spotted since - what a tool.

  • Agreed.

  • Superb bird and a superb bit of filming, your very lucky to have them, do they migrate or stay here in the UK .

  • They are resident all year and when the river is in flood, they come up to my pond to eat the fry.

  • Phenominal bird!!! I LOVE kingfishers!!!!!!!

  • Its the only thing I encourage to eat the fish in the pond as I put hundreds of minnows in every year from the river just to feed kingfishers

  • LOL

  • Yup lovely clear shot :)

  • The other footage was like Blair Witch

  • STUNNER!!

  • I put loads of minnows in from the river to feed them.

  • pretty cool mate, i showed my younger brother who is mad on birds and he really liked it, thanks for this one

  • Its the one species that I don't mind eating the fish.

  • Well captured, they are a beutifull looking bird, he looks a cheeky little chappie

  • I got loads of footage as it kept flying up to where I was lying down, but this was the clearest.

  • Could be he has decided to reside by your lake (pond) trouble is he may help himself to any small fry that you may get in the future

  • I had to net off a large tank that I had for poorly goldfish as the kingfishers were hammering them. There is so much fry in the pond, they would not make much of a dent in the fish population there though
