Kingfishers have to be my all time favourite bird, shame they are hard to spot :( They ofter whiz down the river next to my house, all you can see is a blur of brilliant blue.
we get plenty of sparowhawks when we start feeding the smaller birds in the winter. Our garden becomes a bit of a murder hole so I try to put the feeders where the sparrowhawks won't be able to swoop in easily. There are loads or red kites around our area also.
We get pretty much everything in the garden except grass snakes. The habitat has been made for them but they are yet to show up (we live at the northern range of their distribution)
My nearest neighbour is about 1/4 mile away and he killed a grass snake many years ago. It was the only one seen for miles around and none have been spotted since - what a tool.
I had to net off a large tank that I had for poorly goldfish as the kingfishers were hammering them. There is so much fry in the pond, they would not make much of a dent in the fish population there though

Usually you hear them coming with a shrill cry. If you stay still, they may land near and you'll get a better view.

Superb bird and a superb bit of filming, your very lucky to have them, do they migrate or stay here in the UK .

They are resident all year and when the river is in flood, they come up to my pond to eat the fry.

Phenominal bird!!! I LOVE kingfishers!!!!!!!

Its the only thing I encourage to eat the fish in the pond as I put hundreds of minnows in every year from the river just to feed kingfishers

I got loads of footage as it kept flying up to where I was lying down, but this was the clearest.
pondguru 2 years ago
Could be he has decided to reside by your lake (pond) trouble is he may help himself to any small fry that you may get in the future
