yeah I know jonbar87 I do own a 97 honda prelude sh and I make a trip to Mexico, around trip over 3000 miles and spent about 320 bucks on fuel plus and oil changed there!!! and I love driving that car especially when the Vtec kicks in!!! but at the moment cars in under work due to a crack oil pan and shot exhaust system!!! car has 220K miles on it with original engine!!! tranny has been replaced once!!!! and I had it for 6 yrs!!
@jonbar87 damnh. i took my prelude on a 2 hour trip not too long ago. i was ve3ry suprised to see i got 30MPG on a car with 117000 miles and how it runs in the upper 3's highway speeds. and my temp gauge stayed like that the whole time. how much miles do you currently have?
@jayguy173 I'm not just pretty sure, i'm positive it is. I was there. I filmed it. I went 152 or whatever it is (don't know exactly since the speedo only goes to 150) just cause some random dude on the internet doesn't think it went this fast doesn't mean it didn't....i'm sorry to burst wop ignorant bubble, but it did.
well you must not be doin something right or your car's messed up cuz my bone stock 92 lude si got to 135 with more power to spare, but a cop pulled me over so i never got to see how much more.
@racerx479 LOL.. I know how to drive... I'll have to make a video.. They get to 100mph quick but you are literally redlining 5th around 125mph. Not sure if they are a different tranny than USDM or what....
98ludesh, most amazing cars every buddy:) 5th gens rule, and iv put it to 150 then i let off, its funny how at 150mph that the car handle as good as if u were doing 40mph
the dude is granny shiftin let me point that out,,, BUT look where it gets up to 143MPH and then Moves Back 2mph and then hits 150mph im thinkin Noss? iv had mine around 138 and thats it?
yea i was...i had just bought it and was trying to be easy on her :p. When I hit 143 I was coming up over an incline...once it leveled back out i started accelerating again.
Did you do this on a downhill? The reason I'm asking is the fastest I've gotten my 97 'lude on the flat is a tad over 140. Your car paused at 140, then pulled the last 10mph out of nowhere like it hit a decline.
@sniperz1408 the gears are the same i believe as is the hp. 5th gens weigh more so you should take a 5th gen no prob. even h23s hang with 5th gens till 3 gears top end comes into play. so.... 5th gens are fair game for you
my friend's brother has a stock prelude,he always talks shit about how it could outrun my '96 impala ss. but im sure my impala would win. wat do you think?
im plannin on gettin one when i get older. ha,im only fourteen. and imps arent "poop slow" there actually pretty fast. alot faster than my friends brothers prelude, although the preludes do have alot of torque
Colton I think you should look up what torque actually is.. i own an S2000, 240 horsepower when it was stock and it doesn't have shit for torque and it (is) was honda's high performance car with the exception of the all-mighty NSX
@Setostrife ok,your probly right. i dont really look into tuners like i do american made cars. i dont kno that much about em compared to wat ik about chevies and fords, but when i rode n my friends bros prelude it did have alotta torque. it could get up and go n a heartbeat
depends on the year/engine in the lude, it could be a close race or you could beat it easily. a 4th generation vtec (92-96) would give you the best run, a 97-01 is slightly slower, and if it doesn't have a vtec engine you'll kill it
if you're strictly talking about america, thats true. In europe for example they had a f series 2.0 liter in the 5th generation as well as h22's. You got the 4th generation part right though.
Not in the states. All 5th Gens were h22a4. And top spees in my 5th gen when it was stock was higher than that, I actually hit the rev limit, but the speedometer is very inaccurate at those speeds.
are these model year preludes reliable?...i want to buy one sometime...but im a broke nigga....and i need it to be decently relibale...any help would appreciated....otherwise i might roll with a accord v6 ..
it all depends on the previous owner....just like with any car. overall, yes, this car is extremely reliable...but once again, if the previous owner ran it low of oil and/or never did maintenance...then who knows when it might give out on you. but if it was maintained how the average car should be, then it will last you as long as you'd need it to.
I dunno how that worked out for u u must have disabled the fuel cut off :S these cars are supposed to max out at 137 mph or 217 kmph. And the autos are terrible. only 4 gears the 5 spds walk them
road and track plus the fact that i own one lol.... it does have a fuel cut off at 7500 rpm.... maybe its just a canadian thing but mine does. and yea the auto tensioner is good but in order to do it yourself u need a pretty damn good set of tools.... alot of specialty shit needed.
must be Canadian models...i know jdm models have that as well. usdm models do not have a fuel or ignition cut...I know that for a fact. doing the tensioner conversion wasn't that difficult...
I'm looking into getting a '97 Prelude with the "sport-shift" auto. Are the automatics still decent? I'd much rather have a manual, but its almost impossible to find any Prelude in my area.
honestly no, the auto's suck. join any prelude forum and you will read tons of threads on the automatic "triptronic" tranny blowing. for some reason honda had a hard time making a decent auto tranny for the lude. Don't waste your money if your not going to get a standard. try autotrader/ebay/craigslist for a manual before you settle for an automatic. you will regret it, i promise you.
lmao not true i bought a tip tronic 01 lude for the fun of it and now it has a full slap shift race tranny and a bunch of motor parts lmao i could easy tool any manual
I got it in a private sale off craigslist. The guy seemed like a real straight up dude who didn't beat on the car, bought it and had mechanic friends check it out. Leaky valve cover gasket and a worn out tie rod end. Owner thinks he did timing belt but I'm not so sure because it seems like a big cost repair that you would be sure of. I am just curious of the engine braking in traffic...its STRONG in first gear like having a manual...Car shifts a bit harder than most I am used to.
I have an SH and its ass, i really wish i got a base model, ATTS is nothing but a problem, the SH does handle really well, but its just not worth it, im gonna swap a base model h22 in mine and call it a day, they have ATTS running through the block and shit...pointless!
Yea it is a fun car, I put around 1500 milees on it in the last two weeks. My car is automatic with the autoshift manual option that I never bother to use...it feels weird at slow speeds like it IS a manual because I can feel teh engine braking in traffic when I back off the gas. Is that normal? Also sometimes if I hit the gas a certain way from a stop it feels like it is a manual when it gets rolling. The previous owner said he did one O2 senser, hopefully car is good for long time.
I just bought a 98 prelude today. $4k with 96,000 miles. Test drove, smooth, handles nice, seems good condition. Pretty impressive speed for a little four cylinder car. I live to ride sportbikes so it's not going to be amazing to me, but I just wanted to get a fun little car that handles nice and was reliable. Any known issues with these cars? Seems to have all great reviews from what I can see.
Their fun cars they feel nice to drive i use to own a 1997 prelude ,their reliable ,but when you do need parts their expensive , they have 2 oxygen sensors , witch cost like 200 bucks each or even more .
i liked how he waz maxing it out wit a lil gas lol its a nice video i maxed mine @ 130 cuz i ran out of space i want 2 max it out all the way but im scared that i might fuck it up what could anyone could recomend me ?
yea i know this. I was concentrating on driving and holding the camera more than when i was shifting. I know that i coulda accelerated faster if i woulda taken it higher...
nirvtec = even dumber little kid who doesn't have a clue that i was out in the middle of NO WHERE with NO traffic and the only persons life i was risking was my own. Next time before you make an idiotic comment, know your facts. Douche bag.
mans pushed that shit to the limit. 5th gen preludes usually top out at 143 MPH but cause he went past redline thats why he hit 152-153MPH. i wouldn't do that to my prelude but its always nice to know someone else will kill their car for a video! nice job dude!
@jeffreynevermind your fucking stupid i have this same exact car 2000 bass h22a4 prelude, at 130-132 it is in redline. If you owned a 5th gen lude you would know that
@womblesmurf well maybe he has type sh version because i was in the passenger seat of a 98 going 145 and our friend with the exact same type sh 1998 going 150 in dront of us and we werent sitting at redline in 5th at 130 your just dumb then preludes are known for having high top end, it makes up for all the weight the car is a hawking machine
I've done this once in my '99 lude, just love it as it goes off the clock! Mine reached the limiter in 5th however, definitely needs a 6th gear ;) At that speed you should have panned out and filmed the fuel gauge too, it moves just as much as the RPM gauge ;) hehe
que buena prelude!!! no hay como lo japones !!! jamas jamas me teendria q haber bajado de mi swift gti y comprado un clio es una poronga!!! Mi proximo objetivo es una prelude como la tuya! saludos desde argentina!
nice video, I do have a 97 prelude sh and got it to 140+mph I didn't wanna push it all the way cause I was running out of highway I should I say my exit! preludes are fun I love mine tho! check out my vids! Later!
I have a 97 honda prelude too and I got it up to 150. I got to the place in no time. but the bad part is that on the way back i got pulled over and the cop said that he was maxed out on his car. he only caught up to me cuz i slowed down cuz cars started to come. it was like 3am..fun ass drive tho!
Nice run, got mine to 150, does it pop out of gear when you hit the revlimiter at 8000rpms? Be careful dont do that anymore u did it once so you know where it will top. Unless of course an RX-8 rolls up, hehe
i have a 97 prelude and one night me and my friend were racing (he has a 95 honda del sol 1.6 dohc vtec)and i was going 150mph and he was going 130mph way behind and some cops coming the opposite way saw us and they didnt even try to turn around but i just keep going just in case they did
-----Can some one explain the types of preludes there are you know 97-2001 what are the difference the enginge style plz thanks. Reason because I want to buy one. Oh whats the mpg on them also?
97-98 have 190 HP. 00-01 have 200 HP. mpg is 17-28 or more. depends how u drive. Preludes handling feels way better than any integra and most american cars.
I know the H22 gets max power at 6800rpms and this is where this guy shifts... what he fails to notice is that everytime he shifts at 6800rpm.. the car drops out of vtec on the next gear.. stock h22 vetc kicks in at 5500 rpm.... you have to red line it dude a little bit say abotu 7500 to keep the revs up on the next gear... so the car can stay in vtec
it's not that i don't know that, i was just trying to drive, hold my phone, and shift all the same time and was not paying attention to when i was shifting. normally when i race i shift right at 7200 everytime so i stay in vtec..
I got a Prelude. I've done 150 with slight mods. What people need to understand is that it has no low end, but when it gets going it's a little beast. I raced a 350z on the highway once and he could not keep up. I think he would get me out of the hole though.
So the check engine light is "insufficient EGR flow"....carbon in the EGR valve!? i think my 98 lude have the same thing.. I wonder what should I do about it.. or it dosn't matter@@?
I wrecked my 98 prelude.I'm gonna miss that bitch.haha.I'm thinking of buying me an Audi A4 or BMW if not i'll get another prelude. Next time i 'won't drive crazy.haha
dont get an a4 I had before I bought my lude and that bitch was slow. It was a 2.8 and It took me twice as long to get to 100mph as I does now. how disapointing
well i dunno about you but i personally love my 5th gen lude. Maxima's are good cars, just don't like them as much as the Prelude. I would personally do the 5spd swap if i was you. Honda ftw
I don't know if you're brave or crazy for going 150 mph while holding a camera but pretty cool.

oh trust me its possible with a little redline
kiLLaHz99 2 years ago
no not possible...even with a f22 trans in my 5th gen i got 4th up to 145mph....def not possible with stock trans
driftman240sx 2 years ago
exactly. not physically possible in a 5th gen h22 lude. kiLLaHz99 is mistaken
jonbar87 2 years ago
i liked how he waz maxing it out wit a lil gas lol its a nice video i maxed mine @ 130 cuz i ran out of space i want 2 max it out all the way but im scared that i might fuck it up what could anyone could recomend me ?
m1gu3l622 2 years ago
go to a old air strip... legal, safe and you'll more than likely max it out
getignited114 2 years ago
Why don't you take it to at least 7000 RPM? That's where you get max HP in the 2.2 vtec?
DrNate89 2 years ago
yea i know this. I was concentrating on driving and holding the camera more than when i was shifting. I know that i coulda accelerated faster if i woulda taken it higher...
jonbar87 2 years ago
Good point, watching the road is a bit more important than shift timing haha.
DrNate89 2 years ago
I have a 00 prelude non sh, with intake.... what would be the top speed for it.?.?.
H22apowah 2 years ago
intakes are over rated. because of gearing/hp your not gonna see over 150mph with an H22 lude
jonbar87 2 years ago
nirvtec = even dumber little kid who doesn't have a clue that i was out in the middle of NO WHERE with NO traffic and the only persons life i was risking was my own. Next time before you make an idiotic comment, know your facts. Douche bag.
jonbar87 2 years ago
the speed limiter is 140 on a 5 gen prelude without a modified rev limiter

cool vid

pretty much what you see there ^
jonbar87 2 years ago
h22?
xxnissansilviaxx1027 2 years ago
yup
jonbar87 2 years ago
mans pushed that shit to the limit. 5th gen preludes usually top out at 143 MPH but cause he went past redline thats why he hit 152-153MPH. i wouldn't do that to my prelude but its always nice to know someone else will kill their car for a video! nice job dude!
jeffreynevermind 2 years ago 6
eh...i got bored one day on a long trip and figured why not. still runnin strong at 155k :)
jonbar87 2 years ago
@jeffreynevermind your fucking stupid i have this same exact car 2000 bass h22a4 prelude, at 130-132 it is in redline. If you owned a 5th gen lude you would know that
womblesmurf 1 year ago
@womblesmurf well maybe he has type sh version because i was in the passenger seat of a 98 going 145 and our friend with the exact same type sh 1998 going 150 in dront of us and we werent sitting at redline in 5th at 130 your just dumb then preludes are known for having high top end, it makes up for all the weight the car is a hawking machine

preludes dont evan like to go past 6k rpms.
dolanrice08 2 years ago
That's just where he's shifting.
You can easily redline them to 8 if you want...
ijoostin 2 years ago 3
but like i said they dont LIKE to.
dolanrice08 2 years ago
oh you got it wrong.... 6k is barely starting after vtec. 5th gen preludes love going to 8k all the time. i know mine does.
cirilobeto 2 years ago 5
agreed, hondas love to rev. My car feels like power never peaks, it still pulls all the way to 8.
SeeMyhondaVTEC 2 years ago
exactly. i was paying more attention to holding my phone and trying to drive then i was shifting. I should have been shiftin around 7500
jonbar87 2 years ago
dont listen to romedollaz! preludes dont like to be redlined.

REDLINE MONSTER
oggiwoggi 3 years ago 3
I've done this once in my '99 lude, just love it as it goes off the clock! Mine reached the limiter in 5th however, definitely needs a 6th gear ;) At that speed you should have panned out and filmed the fuel gauge too, it moves just as much as the RPM gauge ;) hehe
cyberstrike2027 3 years ago
let that shit redline!!!!!!!
Romedollaz 3 years ago
you need gas by the way..

nice video, I do have a 97 prelude sh and got it to 140+mph I didn't wanna push it all the way cause I was running out of highway I should I say my exit! preludes are fun I love mine tho! check out my vids! Later!
Nd4Spd01 3 years ago
major props bro.. kinda scary you hit the redline..
arjay031 3 years ago 2
not bad but you need to have your atts system serviced!
mattfra1 3 years ago
that's not atts, it's my check engine light.
jonbar87 3 years ago
my bad i had 01 sh and thats where my atts light was
mattfra1 3 years ago
i raced a car just like that in my mustang the other day. he wasnt stock so it was a good race! but i still beat him lol.
R3DBULLX23 3 years ago
Ha! you nutter!
Next time get a camera person as one handed driving at 152 is just insane :D
deeneyboy 3 years ago
I have a 97 honda prelude too and I got it up to 150. I got to the place in no time. but the bad part is that on the way back i got pulled over and the cop said that he was maxed out on his car. he only caught up to me cuz i slowed down cuz cars started to come. it was like 3am..fun ass drive tho!
MLDFC 3 years ago
Nice run, got mine to 150, does it pop out of gear when you hit the revlimiter at 8000rpms? Be careful dont do that anymore u did it once so you know where it will top. Unless of course an RX-8 rolls up, hehe
stunludez03 3 years ago 2
i think you dropped your tranny somewhere around 3rd gear lol ...

bongman4ghz 3 years ago 4
Two things, you are low on gas AND your check engine light is on. Just thought
I would point that out lol. Preludes aren't bad to 70 or so but after that it takes a while. But that is what mods are for.
getalife04 3 years ago
dude.
pennywise421 3 years ago
love the sound of the vtec
peaceout2you 3 years ago
thats scary stuff i would never do that to my prelude.. or myself
anirban0 3 years ago
i have a 97 prelude and one night me and my friend were racing (he has a 95 honda del sol 1.6 dohc vtec)and i was going 150mph and he was going 130mph way behind and some cops coming the opposite way saw us and they didnt even try to turn around but i just keep going just in case they did

-----Can some one explain the types of preludes there are you know 97-2001 what are the difference the enginge style plz thanks. Reason because I want to buy one. Oh whats the mpg on them also?
expex20 3 years ago
97-98 have 190 HP. 00-01 have 200 HP. mpg is 17-28 or more. depends how u drive. Preludes handling feels way better than any integra and most american cars.
newportb0x 2 years ago
well it does go pretty fast, i've had mine up to about 150, the needle was just tapping the 150 mark
KRB5 3 years ago

i dont think its going that fast i been in a lot of cars at the track sounds more like 125-130mph to me
jayguy173 3 years ago
...? my speedometer doesn't lie to me.
jonbar87 3 years ago
No redline?
BOOOO!!lol
dualcam23 3 years ago 2
WOW it is a fast car, 150 mph at rev limit, now if u chipped it 8.5k rpm it would be over 160
orlandoromania 3 years ago
top speed has to do with gearing rpms and hp nuthing to do with how fast it gets there a tractor probably could with long ass road
jayguy173 3 years ago
I know the H22 gets max power at 6800rpms and this is where this guy shifts... what he fails to notice is that everytime he shifts at 6800rpm.. the car drops out of vtec on the next gear.. stock h22 vetc kicks in at 5500 rpm.... you have to red line it dude a little bit say abotu 7500 to keep the revs up on the next gear... so the car can stay in vtec
culprit00 3 years ago
it's not that i don't know that, i was just trying to drive, hold my phone, and shift all the same time and was not paying attention to when i was shifting. normally when i race i shift right at 7200 everytime so i stay in vtec..
jonbar87 3 years ago
at least you know why your gas tank is almost empty! lol.
estocker123 3 years ago 4
my bro has a 98 lude with a chip and intake that shiy is quick he redlines at 8600 rpm"S. i love the sound of that vtec opening in 2nd gear
fingerboardingrucus 3 years ago
I got a Prelude. I've done 150 with slight mods. What people need to understand is that it has no low end, but when it gets going it's a little beast. I raced a 350z on the highway once and he could not keep up. I think he would get me out of the hole though.
Radioactive45 3 years ago
So the check engine light is "insufficient EGR flow"....carbon in the EGR valve!? i think my 98 lude have the same thing.. I wonder what should I do about it.. or it dosn't matter@@?
mailmansarwei 3 years ago
I wrecked my 98 prelude.I'm gonna miss that bitch.haha.I'm thinking of buying me an Audi A4 or BMW if not i'll get another prelude. Next time i 'won't drive crazy.haha
stairway2heaven781 3 years ago
dont get an a4 I had before I bought my lude and that bitch was slow. It was a 2.8 and It took me twice as long to get to 100mph as I does now. how disapointing
crimsonsamich 3 years ago
love the h22 engines, my cousin got one form a junkyard and put it in his 93 hatch civic with a primer coat, it's ugly but it's one hell of a sleeper
trackx07 3 years ago
I would've laughed so hard if you ran outta gas while doing that.
ScottLude97 3 years ago
sweet dude. doesnt it feel great to drive that fast.... :)
MisterSkaTuba 3 years ago
Bone stock?
Your accel from 125 - 150 is faster than mine!
and I'm modded out the ass! lol
... My O2 sensors out, and alt just fried though.
I'm changing the Alt now.
I'm sure once I change my O2 and reset my ECU, I'll be performing in top shape again ^_^
Nice vid btw

i have 98 auto sport shift should i keep it and do a swap or buy a 00 maxima? Or just keep it how it is?
MaryGoRound420 4 years ago
well i dunno about you but i personally love my 5th gen lude. Maxima's are good cars, just don't like them as much as the Prelude. I would personally do the 5spd swap if i was you. Honda ftw
jonbar87 4 years ago
maximas (IMO) are slow, my mom has one and it can barely make it past 80mph and its v6 and a nissan which will drink up that gas as if it were water.
madhamsterpr 3 years ago
lol is this stock??
