  • 3k for conventional, 4-5k for synthetic

    my 2 cents

  • 3 months or three thousand miles? Do what you want. That was mandated way back in the 60's or somethin, when oil refining was not as good as it is today. If you drive in dusty conditions everyday and/or do nothing but city driving, sure 3k or sooner, but open highway driving, limited to no dust, etc. I've changed my oil in my truck every 5 to 10k miles and never had a problem. I run synthetic now and still have no issues.

  • Run synthetic. Bet that was penzoil.

  • pfft, Women.

  • This is why I tell everyone every 3000 miles for oil changes. Because most likely they are going to be put off, and by the time people actually get their oil changed, it's around 4-5k miles since the last oil change. Now everyone is being told anywhere from 7500 miles to as much as 15k miles, as this, my friends, is what happens. Now they've probably got a several thousand dollar job to have the engine replaced, instead of paying $100 for 4 oil changes.

  • Remember kids :

every 3000 miles. or 3 months...

  • I'm suddenly a Hyundai fan.I know of a guy who changed his oil 3 times in a dodge 225 slant 6,it had 250K and is still going strong

  • I've seen a benz so sludged up before, when you took the drain plug off, nothing came out. You had to stick something in the pan to get the sludge flowing.

  • just because synthetic oil will not break down over 10K+ miles does not mean that it should not be changed. Contaminates will still build up, the oil filter will clog causing the bypass to open meaning no filtering. I run only synthetic but still change my oil every 3k, just passed 150k and still runs like new and with high and even compression in all cylinders.

  • runs good needs motor

  • I bought an 07 kia spectra with 83k miles form a woman who had NEVER changed the oil and filter. When I tried to remove the oil , it would not come out until i stuck a screwdriver into the pan drain to get it going. Then it would not take the new oil so I had to remove the valve cover and vacuum out the sludge buildup. The car ran beautifully with no check engine light. I changed the oil with pure synthetic. Now I have 94k miles on this car and still running great. No engine noise of any kind.

  • Well, it's a Hyundai. So, no loss.

  • throw some kerosene in there and run it hard and change the oil like 5 times.

  • THIS IS TYPICAL FOR TOYOTA ESPECIALLY IN JAPAN THEY NEVER CHANGE THEIR OIL THERE THEY JUST DRIVE A CAR UNTILL IT DIES AND GET ANOTHER ON I HAVE HAD MANY RIGHT HAND DRIVE FRONT SECTION CARS SENT TO ME FOR PEOPLE AND 8 OUT OF 10 CARS HAD THEIR ENGINES LIKE THIS

  • To add to my last post. If you wanna go 20k miles in between oil changes, use Amsoil's high end Signature Series oil, and a really good filter. It's foolish to go that far with any other oil, even with most synthetic labeled motor oils. Regular oil is only good for 5k miles at the most.

  • @joshnc101 mobil 1 or shaeffers will do it but you'll need to change filter and add a quart at 10k

  • I work at a Havoline Xpress Lube shop, often times we get cars that are obviously having sludge build up by looking in the oil filler cap and seeing oil getting cooked on the dipstick. Had a perfect example of this come in the other day. A 07 Acura with 110,000 miles, history showed this lady was getting its oil changed almost every 20k miles on our regular bulk oil. We raised this issue up with her and she wasen't taking our advice very well. She'll learn an expensive lesson soon enough...

  • If that car would go over 3k rpm and go on drives further than 2 mile round trips that wouldn't happen. People need to understand that cars need to be driven to remain healthy.

  • Some people do not know they need to change OIL - I have met some believe it or not.

  • whats so hard for people to change there oil?

  • I would REALLY have to try hard to not change the oil every 5k+ miles. I don't understand how people do this...

  • obviously a woman

  • This car belongs to the same person who runs around telling all their friends, "Don't buy Hyundai...they're junk!" If you treat a car as disposable, that's exactly what it'll become.

  • @deloreanman14 not entirely true. so far i have vowed never to buy another mazda/ford

  • @gokartbuyer you are right, ford is a junk company, i almost went bankrupt, i sold my ford and purchased a Suzuki swift

  • @lewisavinash1 ahahahahahahahaha

  • wow 20,000 miles I change mine every 3,000 to 3,500 and thats because I'm using conventional oil.. I'd like to switch to synthetic but it's an older engine and I'm afraid it may develop leaks seeing how it has superior cleaning properties compared to conventional

  • @antman08015 - 20,000 miles without an oil change is a walk in the park. My channel has a video of an engine that went 409,000 miles without an oil change. The engine is torn down, inspected by a professional engine rater and you are shown all the internal engine parts. Wait till you see this video! :)

  • I go 4-5k between oil changes semi-synthetic Motorcraft 5w20 and the internals are nice and clean. I also use factory Motorcraft oil filters. Screw Fram.

  • @rompn4x You can go 25,000 miles between oil changes when using Amsoil, which is superior to Motorcraft. I don't understand why everyone is using such inferior oil instead of using Amsoil. Amsoil will save you people a fortune and your engines will never wear out. Stop being negative. Order the oil on-line and change it once per year and be done with it.

  • @clucklikeachicken I wasn't being negative. I would like to do Amsoil when I purchase a new car. But right now I have an old P71 Crown Vic that has 112,000 hard miles on it and doubt ill keep it long.

  • @rompn4x I just went 20,000 km on my last oil change with regular oil, oil came out so so.. not too black, more dark brown and down only 1 litre

probably the last time i'll do that to my crown vic though lol

  • i bought an used car long time ago, then i opened up the valve cover and more or less was the same as yours, i didnt have money left after i got the car so i pour some engine flush product in it and did the oil change then after 1000 miles i did another one and then the engine was back to its original condition, it worked for me you can give it a shot instead if getting another engine :P

  • Don't mix convential oil with synthetic, turns to sludge.Seen this inside of an oil pan of a 3800 out of a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville, the oil pan was completely full of sludge

  • @wafrederick - Synthetic and petroleum oils are completely compatible. Any sludge you saw wasn't because of mixing the two oils, but because of the comparatively poor performing dead dinosaur oil.

  • @HiTechOilCo Mixing synthetic is a huge no no.It was convential quaker state oil mixed with mobil 1 synthetic

  • @wafrederick - Synthetic oils and petroleum oils are completely compatible. I know, I've been in the synthetic oil business for 25+ years.

  • @HiTechOilCo That is not true, not compadable.Jasper even knows this too

  • @wafrederick - Google it. Synthetic oils and petroleum oils are completely compatible.

  • @HiTechOilCo No there not,my father has talked to guys about it and say not compadable.

  • @wafrederick - The, "guys", are wrong. Google it, or e-mail any oil company with that question. Synthetic oils and petroleum oils are 100% compatible.

  • @wafrederick COMPATIBLE. And they are completely COMPATIBLE. My left nut knows this.

  • just put some tranny fluid in it run it for a half hr go get a beer and drain the oil. then put fresh oil in it run some more tranny fluid in it about a quart. and drive it for a week then drain it put fresh in and your off. i have done it many times i had a lady came in it was so sledged up when i drained it and put the tranny fluid in, in half hr i filled the oil filter completely with sludge. she drove it for 100k+ after till she traded it in with no problems

  • lol that happened to my 3.1. Mom was told to get the oil changed and the cash was turned into shoes.

  • @GmTruckCarLove Hopefully they were comfortable enough to walk in!

  • The reason I took the valve cover off, is because it was so sludged, I couldn't pour oil in it. There is no mechanic in a can!

  • @MrMikeyboy333 I change my motor oli once a month seening that makes me want to change it every week!

  • @Eagleoneradiogod - Once a month oil changes? Wow, you must drive an awful lot?

  • @MrMikeyboy333 I would just run the car for 30min, change the oil and run it again for 30min then change it again and it should be fine coz the clean oil with the heat it will just take all the sludge out

  • The reason I took the valve cover off, is because it

  • I am curious is Gunk flush cleans this stuff up. How about putting the value cover back on and letting gunk flush run for 10 to 15 mins. Drain and do it again. Very curious.

  • @gwalia4 no dont do that it could plog up the pick up screen on your oil pump and blow your motor up. use a quart of tranny fluid in it drive it for a day then drain it and put fresh oil in. if its really bad do it a couple times. its not as harsh and wont dissolve all of it at once like a flush will.

  • Wow! Self-greasing oil. Who woulda thunk? Great invention!

  • wow, jesus christ.

    why are people so stupid.

  • If you're going to do extended oil drain intervals, you really need to do oil sampling. I use Blackstone Labs to verify my oil is still good to go. Once you've established a safe limit, don't exceed it.

  • WTF is with all the Hyundai 2.0 motors on here with long overdue oil changes. take care of your engines you dumbfucks out there

  • I change my oil a couple times a year and I only drive it a couple miles a week. have only used synthetic..are hhese circumstances bad? also when I start it up, I like to leave it running for a little while before and after driving...is this bad also?

  • @MatthewTelles No its not bad. Your car will be fine.

  • my car is a 97 oldsmobile 88 and I tried running a synthetic blend and it burned about a quart but it doesn't burn conventional oil.

  • That looks like someone just shit inside the engine.

  • That's what you get for using the very cheapest oil you could find and skipping an oil change. Or two.

  • how was the car running???

  • Once again, just change your oil. Most reputable oil manufacturers specify in small writing on the back of the bottle, do not exceed maximum vehicle oil change interval. I am a shop foreman for Acura. I might know what I'm talking about sometimes!

  • I run synthetic oil no longer than 6,000 miles with a Royal Purple oil filter, but thats just me and my engine has 92,000 miles on it and runs great as the first day it was used. I have used Pennzoil Ultra, Amsoil and Valvoline Synpower to date. I did run the Amsoil for 10,000 miles and had the oil tested afterwards and it still had 60% of it's additive package left in it. Amsoil is awesome.

  • you should just runs some kerosene in it for 5 minutes

  • ignorance is expensive....

  • Depends on many factors, including the current wear on your engine, how much blow-by there is, how your PCV system is routed & how its controlled, your driving habits, the load you put on it...I go 12500 miles on Amsoil between changes, and I change earlier if I smell varnish. I was a Ford mechanic, A.S.S.E.T. school graduate (1st grad class in state). Seriously, though, just change it when you smell varnish, ignore miles. I have 215k miles on a 4.6L Lincoln I street race DAILY. 12k oil changes.

  • Haha people these days... Always in a rush and impatient. No more common courtesy, holding the door and when something goes wrong they want to blame someone else. If there is one thing I don't skip out on is oil changes.

  • @7477238 couldnt say it any better myself

  • MY GOD JUST CHANGE YOUR OIL HAW HARD COULD IT BE

  • @robby844 First off if your cousin just built this amazing engine for his eclipse, there shouldnt be synthetic oil in the pan for the first thousand miles. Synthetics are so slippery that they dont allow the engine to break in properly. Second, how can he sue the oil company when there are so many variables that could have caused the engine to fail.

  • motor is no longer running, and unless your car calls for it do not use synthetic!!! certain engines are designed to use it. but if you do use it, you shouldnt go more than the maximum specified oil change interval! it even says that in small print on the back of the mobile 1 bottles. i am a certified mecanic for 12 years

  • @MrMikeyboy333 Ive seen a lot of kids do this. Think oh, ill just use a synthetic and it will be fine for years. FAIL. I run a synthetic oil in my mustang and have done forever. but i still change it every 5000 KM and now that it has over 365k km on it, the engine still pulls great, has factory spec compression, and is still a blast to drive. Everyone should be educated on the importance of proper engine matinence

  • @MrMikeyboy333 thier is no scientific proof that running synthetic in a car that doesn't call for it will ever hurt your engine this dumbshit that owned this car never bothered to change his oil thats it running synthetic in a car is no more harmful to it then running conventional dinosaur oil, i use castrol syntec full synthetic oil in my 1992 oldsmobile cutless ciera 3.3 v6 she has 215k miles on it and has been running full synthetic oil since she had 85k run it in my scooter aswell and mower

  • @control177 I've started to use Castrol Edge with Syntec on my 98 sentra that has 150,000 mile and i am loving every minute of it :)

  • @MrMikeyboy333-Top flight synthetic oils provide many benefits that a petroleum oil can't, such as improved fuel economy, lower emissions, easier cold winter starts, an internally cleaner engine, superior high temperature engine protection, low maintenance costs and a host of other benefits. There is no engine designed to use synthetic oil. Synthetic oil isn't anything mysterious, it just does a better job than a petroleum oil does. I've been in the automotive repair industry for 25 years.

  • what happend to your motor is it still running

  • that's bad :D

  • Its a pos hyundia, typcal!

  • I usually change mine every 15-20k and never had an issue. I use Mobil 1 extended performance though.

  • @Abercrombie7131 Exactly. I've ran an oil analysis after 12k and every thing came back good and it said I could go further. My car has a cartridge filter, so I change it half way through. Now, I don't drive as much so usually i change it every 6-7k with Mobil 1, I don't use the EP. Although on the longer intervals I did.

  • @Abercrombie7131 wait till you find out what mobil one does to an engine

  • @robby844 What does Mobil 1 do to an engine?

  • @studpuppy69 you dont know? it breaks down and causes bad spots in the cam.causes sludge to form even faster than pennzoil.my cousin put a brand new HKS cam in his eclipse built the engine was putting out 550 to all four took it out for a run was pushing 75 psi on the gauge the engine let out a howl and he heard that amazing sound of the rod taking stage right.opened it up the oil broke down and the $1200 cam set was junk.rods were seized to the crank.hes suing mobil one right now

  • @studpuppy69 but you should now all that being how you claim how smart you are in all your other comments.and besides all the trucks and machines i do oil changes on that had mobil1 in them with all the metal shavings in the filters and the oil coming out in 3 or 4 different stages....but people like you is why mobil 1 stays in business.

  • @robby844 You can blame the oil all you wan't but its a Mitsubishi Eclipse. Everything you said was a lie. If you really think this is true, I'm sure Corvette, Mercedes Benz, Porsche and Suburu just put this in the car as standard. Your a funny man Robby.

  • @studpuppy69 wow you think that corvette is its own company.porsche doesnt use mobil 1 they use shell.and since i own a subaru :D i know they dont use mobil1.shit they dont even use synthetic.how can it be a lie when mobil admitted that the oil breaks down and cause engines to seize? look up the lawsuit online its all over.

  • @studpuppy69 Corvette is a brand? Ididn't know that!

  • @hazyazn Don't play stupid. Corvette uses Mobil1 in their engines. You know what I mean, you just want to feed into stupid.

  • haha change your oil folks

  • elantra right
