hi dude u need to check some thnigs to make sure that u need to change parts at your comp:
first check your CPU with the program prime95 (if u have problems to use it please check or ask someone because i really dont remmeber how to make it work again XD)
after check if there is no errors check your ram with the program memtest86
i dont remmeber how to make this work too but i remmeber that this one is easy to use
I finally was able to fix the problem by decreasing the GPU clock speed from 850 Mhz to 800 Mhz. I used the Catalyst Manager to do so. Try it out if it works for you
I sent back my video card for a replacement and even after I got the new one, the problem still occurred. I tried to check everything, from HDD, Ram, and Power supply but nothing unusual and I finally decided to try my video card on another computer, everything identical, only different motherboard. The problem never came about. Maybe it is a MB issue?
5) I increased the GPU clock by 5MHZ so that the memory speed wouldn't idle at 300mhz and the gpu wouldn't idle at 157mhz
6) I also made sure that any other component was causing my problems... I ran memtest86+ and found errors in my RAM, so I got replacement RAM. I ran prime95 and made sure that my CPU was stable for atleast 10 hours.
7) finally I ran crysis 2 benchmark for about 6 hours to see if it wouldn't crash and voila! it worked.
had the same problem but i solved it: this may not work for all you other people.
I have an XFX Radeon HD 5770 and my card would do that frequently, almost everyday 2 - 5 minutes wether i'm browsing the internet or playing some crysis 2. the screen would freeze, and grey out like this guy and screen would come on and say, "display driver was successfully recovered" or something like that.
For my fix: (don't do this unless your willing to... my card is no longer under warranty so yea) NEXT
Hey, I have the same card HD 5770 and I have the exact same problem as you do. Did you find a way to solve the problem? The new drivers I use are not helping at all

1) I opened up my heatsink and added some thermal grease and ensured that the heatsink was making adequate contact to the gpu
2) I put in the GPU and made sure that the PCI contacts were flawless... I screwed it in made sure the card didn't move at all
3) I plugged in the 6pin pci power thing and made sure it was fitted well
4) I installed my catalyst 10.10 drivers directly from website... (I uninstalled old catalyst drivers first)!!!

I am returning my card and getting a replacement. It seems to me that it is factory defect of the card.

the same problem was experienced by me and moreover in games like GTA 4 , the game automatically freezed and minimized ,
tell me which PSU are u using
and if u have a 450 watt psu then its the psu's fault ,
buy a well know brand's 500 watts psu though i m not able to buy the psu atm and experiencing the same prob as urs
