I was snorkeling at the village Mezapos. There lived pirates in earlier times. Seeing the warm water from the sea mixing with the cold running between the rocks underneath into the sea. Like a Fata Morgana. And diving through a cave. it´s so dramatic and wild there this landscape, unvelievable wild. I will never forget it
@axelgottwald Maniates were the most fierce pirates , in the years of piracy most maniates were pirates and were known for their bravery, not only they were pirates , but when they had to fight the Turks they stopped being pirates, and fought on land with the rest of maniates. Thousands from over 30 Mani towns gather ,and fought the enemy.
People that live in The MANi are so lucky! Ive been to Agious Nikalous, Stoupa, and Kalamata and if i could live anywhere in the world it would be the Mani! One day I will. I need to learn Greek, but its so hard.
Mani is where my Greek ancestors came from - before they were driven out in the 1480s by the Turks. They settled in Calabria, Italy. I LOVE this video and treasure it.
@Beatles0223 Mani was never taken over by the Turks, most likely the reason they left Mani was because of the vendetas between families, many Maniates settled in Corsica also , and other places, also the first Greeks to America were from Mani , 1100 Maniates went to Virginia around 1760 , and ended up in the Apalachian mountain in west Virginia ...God bless you brother ,and your family.
I'm so proud to come from this lovely place!
