"Metastasis" may well have been the origin, but it's still highly likely that the THX logo was based on YMO's "Loom" due to the fact that both have a stronger resemblance to each other than they do to "Metastasis".
That same sound was also used by YMO members Harry Hosono and Ryuichi Sakamoto for another 1978 track, "Malabar Hotel Ground Floor", in their ambient electronica album "Cochin Moon".
the first THX logo was introduce in 1983, i prety sure that YMO Loom from 1981 and maybe metastasis was the original of the thx sound ^^
