I can see the fence, five strand rusty barbed wire, stapled to pealed pine split logs, hanging loose in places, posts standing upright in the earth. The fence builders didn't try to set it straight, it mostly follows the lay of the land and zigs here, zags there. You can see it disappearing over the horizon, just there, if you look hard enough.
However, the Wire Mountain of the title is a fictionalized place inspired by a climb I made to the peak of Ratcliff Mountain in Haywood County, NC. Though the top of this mountain seems to be simple wilderness, I discovered an aged barbed wire fence running for miles along the remote ridge. It was sad and weird ... and stuck in my imagination.

A really nice composition...and a beautifully haunting melody.
