Thanks for all your messages to my video. This is my first attempte at putting a video on YouTube and from all your responses and the number views it has been well worth it. Keith (Hemerdonbank)
The load was suppose to be 71000 and 10 coaches which is the limit placed on a single steamer over the devon banks. With the additional 67 added it made the load around the 12-13 mark.
The 67 was supposed to be DOR, but following air brake issues on 71000 and a quick check of the rule book the 67 was left inside the duke.
The 67 wouldnt start for a while which caused the eventual slow to a stand as its a 90ton heap of over weight american junk!
Minus the 67 the duke would "probably" have made it ok. I prefer the old ways of shadowing a railtour with a 47 but these along with spare paths in this day and age are both quite rare.
Excellent video!! I echo the remarks given that the 67 should've provided assistance earlier as you can clearly hear 71000 whistling fro assistance!!!! Saying that if the 67 wasn't there I reckon 71000 would've made it up the bank no problem as it did last year breaking most of the records with it!!!!
Was on the tour and we were told that they had problems in booting the 67 up, which is why 71000 was forced to go alone. The 67 was in the consist because of as compressor fault on DoG which required the 67 for air.
Certainly sounded like they were 'whistling' for assistance quite a way down the Bank!
Wonder why it took so long!
that could have been alot worse, but glad nothing happened to the Duke, and DAMN shame I opted for Aller, although if you look at my video, she wasnt carrying much speed through Aller though.....
Believe me the sand boxes were full, but no amount of sand would compensate for a dead 90tonne diesel. Having said that, you must admit it was a fabulous show. Better than just another fast accent which we know the Duke is capable of anyway!
Probable the best video ever of a locos in trouble!!! 5 definite stars.
Incidentally, assistance from the diesel was by phone call only, not the whistle.
must have been a screw driver

The 67 WAS running, but couldnt 'power up' and needed to be shut down and rebooted before being able to be 'put in gear'.
It was running past me at aller, and, according to most of the forums discussions I have read, that was the reason........

Ah, the joys of electronics. Wouldn't have happened with a 47 *grumble grumble* ....

So why didn't they have the 67 running in readiness, instead of all that palaver? Seems silly to me.

She is MASSIVE !!! . Im sure she would of made it if she wasn't dragging that damn Skip. An extra 100+ tonnes and a full rake of coaches ..

Nice pan at Whiteball. I was on the side a Dainton, i could see there were loads of people on your side and virtually no one on mine!

Great clip, unlucky though, i reckon the "help" could have been utilised a bit sooner !!!
