The best kind of teachers are the ones you can empathise with and that teacher seemed like a really nice guy who was willing to put formalities and tradition aside to better understand his students.

This man was responding to a student by using language the student would feel comfortable with. It backfired but how was the teacher to know when every black student he has is going around saying "nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga" every five second.
If you want to make a word unacceptable to use then make it that way for all races, blacks included.
