i need to show the world that YES A BLACK WOMAN CAN BE BEAUTIFUL WITHOUT ANY OF THE EUROCENTRIC details that our media seems to harp on and call beautiful. I still have a great smile, still have beautiful skin still have a naturally fit body, still am BLESSED. I'm free of the bondage, which just so you know is ANOTHER TYPE OF SLAVERY!!!
weaves, or straighten it, I felt beautiful but then i would have to REMOVE it and I was still the same Danielle, same features, hair texture, skin color, but all the things that made me beautiful my smile, my smooth skin, my beautifully shaped dark eyes, WERE STILL THERE. I realize that my hair is an extension of my beauty and heritage. I want the world to see we come in so many different looks, body shapes, hair types, features and skin tones, and instead of only showing ONE type of beautyCONT
so called natural looking for about a year in college, and i hated the way people treated me differently when I didnt look more mixed heritage. But I started to really look at myself, at my hair, my body (which is not the typical big booty big breast figure of black women, i am usually more slender to athletic in figure) and i realized I am made in HIS image. I am perfect, and beautiful. My SUPER NAPPY hair was made as a testament of my bloodline. When i cover it up with silky indian remi CONT
I am not going to lie. I HAVE STRAIGHTENED MY HAIR TO APPEAR LESS BLACK. I have worn weaves TO APPEAR LESS BLACK. I have lied about my texture (when i had a texturizer and the curls was popping). I am a light brown skin woman with allegedly less black features, which help facilitate these lies. I didnt want to be white, i just wanted people to all agree I fit in with the Euro beauty standard. I am not proud of it, but telling the truth is SO FREEING. I have been natural since 08 and I was CONT
I'm not gon' lie I fuckin HATE gettin relaxers in my hair. But once that shit is washed out and I can comb and style my hair I'm all good. I just got my lil Halle Berry cut on Friday and its lookin good as fuck. Don't get me wrong I love my natural hair as well(its a lil more maintenance) but its MY texture and I enjoy it. I wore wigs for about a year b/c I was still tryna decide if I wanted to relax my hair or go back natural. I relaxed it so I'm no longer wearing the wigs.
I've actcually shaved the back of my hair and seen It grow back but it is too curly and that wouldn't work for me so I stick to my weaves...Maybe when im older and settled down I will wear my natural hair but not now!
Personally, I won't date a woman who I know has a weave. Yes, I have dated a woman who had a weave, but it wasn't clear to me until she told me so it was cool. I mean, if you're going to do it, keep it tight. Otherwise, it's as bad as having nasty dreds. Stay presentable black people!!!
who doesn't like a woman with long hair i don't want any women with hair shorter than mine, i want something to drag without worrying about it falling off in my hand
I enjoy your channel because you bring a different level of insight than some of the other Youtube talk-radio channels.
Yup. I listen to it in the background like it is talk radio while I work. lol. You're awesome. Keep up the great work and the conversations going. :-)
Exactly, and what would you do if when you are choosing a car you don't like driving a stick? Yep, you choose an automatic. This logic escapes most, so when they see the men leaving they cant understand. Why if you have a choice would you choose the one you don't like and actually the person that doesn't like it themselves either?
For the past three years Ive noticed a Youtube trend. Millions of videos by women of all races showing how they bleach, flat iron, relax, steam, Strip, wrap, extend and do all kinds of unnatural chemical processed things to their hair but I rarely see videos by other races of men complaining about it and I rarely see these women mentioning a mans opinion when she makes her vids. Hair manipulation is a womens vanity period and most other men no best to stay out of it so why cant black men?
Now I know that the men are going to answer with statements about black women blaming black men for their hair woes but once again look at the video trends. Its usually not until black men start complaining about their hair dislikes in women that this BM vs. BW hair issue comes up.
I see your point. Because black women have hair that is just like everybody elses hair. And the effects that hair has is the same for all women.
Women are most certainly vain. Black women, knowing their natural hair makes them stand out, becomes insecure about her natural hair and modifies it. This does two things
1: Gives her control (which all women fear they lack)
well its different bc of WHY most black women do what do to their hair, its not the same as for other women who are just choosing diff styling options - its much deeper than that for BW
even if Black men change their hair texture, that does not mean that the baby will have better hair. There is no such thing as acquired characteristics so the baby will still have kinky hair.
It is officially clear to me that BOTH black men and women are perpetuating the likes and dislikes we have about hair texture. For every 1 black individual who doesn't put a lot of emphasis on hair texture- there are 10 more who do. The very thing you complain about in this video- is the very thing I've complained about. I'm officially stepping out of this blame game cause it could continue for forever. START WITH THE PERSON IN THE MIRROR.
Marry a woman on the same page as you on this topic and teach your children the opposite of what they will face in this world of ignorance amongst their peers- cause I do believe a strong foundation starts at home. And does perpetuate the attitude both little girls and boys feel about a particular hair texture. Growing up- I wasn't influenced that "finer and longer" was better at home- it was at school that the insecurities grew.
So everyone has a story that's different but the outcome the same. So no more pointing fingers... I'm so over it. All I can do is stop the cycle of "hate" with myself... I have come across black men that could careless about the texture of a woman's hair as long as it's hers and well kept- so I'll be fine. And if one day I get married and have children-
I will do my very best to let them know they are beautiful just the way God made them and will not onlyh talk the talk but walk the walk so that mommy doesn't look like a hypocrite.
Great vid, true words. One point you made that is very dead on is about dudes moving on. I find that at the end of the day men are more willing to move on rather than conform to what some woman wants, where on the other hand the woman would make changes that will clearly make her unhappy just so she can get her "guy".

Personally, I prefer a girl with short hair. Long hair gets in the way.
