I wonder what Mat Gleason would say about Andy Warhol before he became famous. "He has a great idea, but my grandma could do that. I woundn't think Andy is an artist. I think hes better of as Campbell's marketing manager, if not director. Its gimmick art. My neice could do a tomato sauce bottle, doesnt mean shes an artist and will be famous." Guess what werido. Doesnt matter what u say. Andy is having the last laugh walking out of the bank while you preach ur Artsy Fartsy bullshit.
I do think the critic is a whiny little bitch. This is incredible work, he should shut the fuck up. Asshole, if you think your grandmother could do it, then make her. Your jealousy slip is showing.
its really neat...for about 5 minutes... THEN you would find that paiinting in a yard sale in beverly hills for 200 dollars leaning against a palm tree on a old fat divorced womans lawn.
Anyone who just paints with acrylic is a one trick pony then.
I just think its what you do with the medium
Like the simple everyday ball point pen art that creates incredible realism, that could be considered a one trick thing but it's what you DO with it that counts.
If the objects are referencing a photograph and the objects are actual belongings and things that relate to the person in the portrait, where is the point of departure where the artist is revealing something that we never knew. It seems the fascination is all bound within the likenesses the objects produce. After that there isnt anything else to learn or explore. perhaps the audience can continually be fascinated by the likeness. To me it seems like a 3 dimensional trick.
The value of art also lies in the effort, time energy and thought that the artist has gone into creating the one of a kind piece.
That's why it sells for allot, people are buying the pleasure of having one a kind thing that someone took weeks or months of their life to create. It's a piece of their life hanging on your work, and a piece of your life sitting in their bank accounts.
Anything can be art, depending on the creator/artist. Art is in the eye of the beholder. Marcel Duchamp signed a urinal and called it art. Someone had the genius to see potential in a everyday object, Mecier is the same, he can see the potential in everyday objects that make a person, to literately make them. I love his work. Kudos.
@ItHadToBeKaya i agree but that piece of duchamp is more of a critic to art and more so to the "fine art". he found the potential of the urinal to create the message. this is amazing to look at but i dont really get the celebrity thing. i guess i should study more on the pop art department XD
gorgeous babe! screw the naysayers! whether they talkin good or bad, at least they talkin! that's what my mamma used to say! wish i still had my carol channing tho!! waaaah!! xx
Did I hear this "critic" say that is craft no art??? Grandma made a seagull out of seashells, but there is a long stretch from Jason' ART and grandma's CRAFT!!!!

This is why so many philosophy students kill themselves.
If you over think things too much, it all becomes meaningless.
But on the other side of the spectrum everything is rich in meaning.

What is art to you? Thats the only question you have to ask and then you don't have to deal with some d-bag telling you what isn't art.

Why are some people so obsessed with the difference between art and craft?
