Last time i heard them do this was on their C,S,N & Y tour 2001 or 2002 in baltimore. Stills did long guitar solos like at 3:12. By the time they got to "change my life' they were spent. They had NAILED it! Stills spiked the his pic like in football. Didn't even finish the refrain.
awesome video, thanks for posting !! did you notice they omitted a part of the last verse ? at 3:26 it should be " voices of the angels...how can you catch the sparrow?", then "lacy, lilting,...be my lady "---still a great video, thanks again for posting !!---
Thanks to all for replying my question. I knew the Spanish lines, as it's my own language, but I can't understand particularly at 4:33 this time. Thanks anyway!
The final section (the coda) is sung in broken Spanish. The section starts at about 6:34 (studio cut) and runs until the end of the song. The "doo-doo-doot" backing vocals make the lyrics difficult to make out for some listeners. Stills has been cited, perhaps apocryphally, as saying that he intentionally made the final stanzas unexpected and difficult, even using a foreign language for the lyrics, "just to make sure nobody would understand it" (not even spanish speaking people).
In the mid-1960s, Stephen Stills attended Lincoln School in San José, Costa Rica. The private school was attended mainly by upper-class Costa Ricans and had many foreign teachers and students. Stills's longtime musical collaborator, the Cuban percussionist Joe Lala, plays on the recording of the song.
The lines might be transcribed as follows: Que linda me la traiga Cuba La reina de la Mar Caribe Quiero solo visitarla alli Y que triste que no puedo vaya O va, o va
@kumga A rough translation into English might read: How beautiful it would be to bring me to Cuba The queen of the Caribbean I only want to visit you there And how sad that I can't go Oh go, oh go!
A variation of this occurs on 4 Way Street: Que lástima que no puedo vaya! (It's a pity that I cannot go! - re US anti-Castro/Communism embargo on Cuba).
This version has Stephen improvising throughout, so it's hard to tell. Hey, he gets to sing it however he wants! :o)
Great posting. I'd love to know the year of this also. I last heard the guys do Judy Blue Eyes in 2002, I think. I've heard them several times since but they don't do it anymore. Possibly due to Steven's voice. In any case, arguably, the best song by the one of the legends of Rock. Harmonies from Heaven.
I'm looking forward to seeing them when they come to my home town in 2 weeks time.

I remember watching this on HBO when it aired in May 1988. Haven't seen it since then, and it's even better than I remembered it.

The greatest song in by one of the greatest, classic rock and roll bands in history!
In my opinion, hearing this LIVE at a show is like a RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE, especially during the REPRISE.
This looks to be from the late '90s? Anyone know?
The last time I've ever heard them play it LIVE in L.A was in '96 at Verizon (nee Irvine Meadows)
I've seen 17 CS&N shows!
Can't wait for #18 during their tour this year.
