He has been touched by God and he has never been ugly ever. You as a guy maybe should look deeper into your soul. You seem not to really have love. @DickLodge68 Women all over the world STILL love this guy. As far as his nose...it's a part of his charm. One of the reasons he has such a unique voice I imagine. While he was and STILL IS a very SEXY Man and very talented Vocally.....it's who he is as a man that makes him so attractive to me. How he carries himself. How he talks. He seems like a loving, caring, romantic gentleman and his girl friend is a very lucky lady IMO.

@DickLodge68 - For me the attraction was (not past tense) his sincerity, his compassion. You could just feel that he was genuine. He wasn't a druggy or boozehound, he was just a nice guy from a wholesome background that help create an awesome sound and awesome band. His song, Oh Sherry, was a tribute to his fiance that he was deeply in love with. When the relationship ended he sorta lost his mind a little. That made him real to me. Some girls like the grundge look, I don't anymore.

That's the problem, Arnel sings in the same register and has a slightly similar voice....SLIGHTLY, and even so, many people think he "sounds just like Steve". Not even close!! If you have an ear at all you can hear the things that make only Steve Perry sound like Steve Perry. Journey is a lesser band without him!!

A true gentlemen too. In an airport; not enough seats for people waiting a lot of people had to sit on the floor or stand around he saw an elderly woman standing and gave up his seat next to his wife for her to sit. I didn't notice him until he did that.

@merrypeary it was 1989 I don't know remember if he was actually married or said it was his wife. We talked about the Oakland Bay area how great a place it is and surfing. I just used the term wife to describe wife as the woman he was with. It was the easy discription.

When Gregg Rollie and Steve Perry were not together anymore with Journey. It is essentially like Chicago without Terry Kath and Peter Cetera together. Chicago was still good with Peter Cetera after Terry Kath died but never personally to me and a lot of other people recaptured the same spirit level of magic of Terry Kath and Peter Cetera together in the band.
Steve's voice is beautiful even when he talks. He truly is the voice. I really would love to hear some new material from him, that would be such a blessing, but if not, I'll just keep listening to what he has already given us. Damn, I do miss him. I never got to see Journey or Steve as a solo artist in concert. I would love that opportunity.

The small criticism I would give Arnel is that he approaches the songs with too much of an "asian" sound. by that I mean there's too much vibrato, he needs to hold the note and bring in the vibrato near the end. too much like the singing fairies in a mothra movie. He also needs to "butch" up his stage presence. He is way too feminine moving on stage. get some big heavy boots with thick soles to make him look heavier and taller and keep from hopping so much like a little kid.

He sounds horse- really horse- much more horse than he sounds on Trial By Fire from 1993. I think he overused his voice. I think he backed out in '93 because he was afraid he couldn't deliver the old high songs night after night.

IMO, think Steve can still sing like a bird. Yeah, he's a little older than lots of our memories, but he has a great voice and I, for one, would love to hear him again. He's done backup with others over the years (Cassidy-this year), and I'm sure he'd sound great if he decided to release something new. If you enjoy the new guy in Journey, fine. For me, Journey will always be Steve Perry.

And most singers don't lose their voice until they're much older than Steve is, which is why I'm pretty sure that he still sounds great. Dan McCafferty of Nazareth sounds the same as he did 30 years ago and has done about nothing to take care of himself.

Ive been a musician and fan for 30 years, i have a trained ear, and let me tell you arnel is incredible. its not the bands fault steve couldnt get himself together and keep it going.
@MrSuperbombastik Arnel has a quality voice...but the vocal similarities between Arnel and Steve end at the fact that they are both tenors...Arnel doesn't have the sustain, vibrato, power, dynamics, or vocal range that Perry possesed...his natural range is an octave lower, which the eclipse record demonstrates...they lowered the keys for that album and every song for nearly every show after only one tour, because no singer over a prolonged period of time can handle what Perry established vocally

@DickLodge68 - For me the attraction was (not past tense) his sincerity, his compassion. You could just feel that he was genuine. He wasn't a druggy or boozehound, he was just a nice guy from a wholesome background that help create an awesome sound and awesome band. His song, Oh Sherry, was a tribute to his fiance that he was deeply in love with. When the relationship ended he sorta lost his mind a little. That made him real to me. Some girls like the grundge look, I don't anymore.

That's the problem, Arnel sings in the same register and has a slightly similar voice....SLIGHTLY, and even so, many people think he "sounds just like Steve". Not even close!! A true gentlemen too. In an airport; not enough seats for people waiting a lot of people had to sit on the floor or stand around he saw an elderly woman standing and gave up his seat next to his wife for her to sit. I didn't notice him until he did that.

When Gregg Rollie and Steve Perry were not together anymore with Journey. It is essentially like Chicago without Terry Kath and Peter Cetera together. Chicago was still good with Peter Cetera after Terry Kath died but never personally to me and a lot of other people recaptured the same spirit level of magic of Terry Kath and Peter Cetera together in the band.

I really would love to hear some new material from him, that would be such a blessing, but if not, I'll just keep listening to what he has already given us. Damn, I do miss him. The small criticism I would give Arnel is that he approaches the songs with too much of an "asian" sound. by that I mean there's too much vibrato, he needs to hold the note and bring in the vibrato near the end. too much like the singing fairies in a mothra movie. He also needs to "butch" up his stage presence. He is way too feminine moving on stage. get some big heavy boots with thick soles to make him look heavier and taller and keep from hopping so much like a little kid.

He sounds horse- really horse- much more horse than he sounds on Trial By Fire from 1993. I think he overused his voice. I think he backed out in '93 because he was afraid he couldn't deliver the old high songs night after night.

IMO, think Steve can still sing like a bird. Yeah, he's a little older than lots of our memories, but he has a great voice and I, for one, would love to hear him again. He's done backup with others over the years (Cassidy-this year), and I'm sure he'd sound great if he decided to release something new. If you enjoy the new guy in Journey, fine. For me, Journey will always be Steve Perry.

And most singers don't lose their voice until they're much older than Steve is, which is why I'm pretty sure that he still sounds great. @isabelacita He can sing like anybody yet he's unique?That just makes him a good karaoke singer.He does have good voice...I didn't say he doesn't.He just doesn't have that Unique Voice like Steve Perry though! Even Arnel is in awe of Steve.He has said so himself.He considers him a rock god.Arnel has not reached his popularity on his own.He has reached it riding on the back of Steve and the songs he co-wrote and I don't like the fact that Neal still has him singing the songs Steve made popular.

@merrypeary he is much more than a good karaoke singer...i think honestly all the hate on him is racism. if u r as white as i am u kmow in your heart of hearts it's just in our blood to be that way...hey...it's sad but true (took me a long time to come to terms with it). it's a real shame...anyways it gives me hope in my people when i see the likes of neal who manages to fight against what's been ingrained into us whites and see talent behind people's ethnicities

@isabelacita WHY are you making it about Racism just because I don't think he sings as good as Steve does? It's not about being white. I love Seals voice...Love Aretha Franklin ...the Queen of soul. Gladys Knight,Diana Ross,Lionel Richie, Smokey Robinson,Donna Summer,The Fifth Dimension,James Brown just to name a few greats. And not to forget Steve's favorite....the one who inspired him....Sam Cooke.It's NOT about race.It's about Neal trying to replace Steve.

@merrypeary i love steve perry and journey but its nothing but ridiculous stubborn pride to say that arnel sounds nothing like steve. He sounds almost exactly like steve. His attack on the songs and vibrato are slightly different, but its pretty uncanny. Ive been a musician and fan for 30 years, i have a trained ear, and let me tell you arnel is incredible. its not the bands fault steve couldnt get himself together and keep it going.

@MrSuperbombastik Arnel has a quality voice...but the vocal similarities between Arnel and Steve end at the fact that they are both tenors...Arnel doesn't have the sustain, vibrato, power, dynamics, or vocal range that Perry possesed...his natural range is an octave lower, which the eclipse record demonstrates...they lowered the keys for that album and every song for nearly every show after only one tour, because no singer over a prolonged period of time can handle what Perry established vocally

@islapilluminati : i dont agree. i saw him live and he certainly does have all of the things perry possessed. and i say that in past tense because it is likely perry himself cannot sustain what he once had. most singers lose it with age. and i would consider arnels ability to cover his own range as well as perry's as a plus not a minus. besides, why is there even a competition? must they all stop because perry doesnt want to go on?

@MrSuperbombastik you can disagree all you want but the fact is Arnel can't sing certain things that Steve could...this is a fact...prime example...go to the "midnight special wheel in the sky" on youtube performed by Perry and the band live...the falsetto voice at the end that Steve sings over Neal's guitar....Arnel can't sing that part live...he doesn't sing it because he doesn't have the ability to...he attempts a watered down version of it in a lower key which sounds like shit...case closed
