  • cool mole bro

  • This video was kind of scary. hahaha

Anyway, I was in Scotland last month for 2 weeks, and the team I went with had a boy named "Peter" in it. I was noticing the T's in Scotland. See, there was also a boy named Peter in one of the churches we were at, & I noticed that as we Americans say it more like "Pee-der", they say a hard T. I was in Burntisland; does it depend on where you are in Scotland on how they say their T's?

  • I'm so surprised to see that you pronounce the letter T at the end just we do in spanish!!!! and your R sound in the first video is so much similar to our R in spanish !!!!

  • FAGGIT

  • the sound you replace the "t" with is called a "glottal stop"

  • Will you say spoon for me please? Please? PLEASE?

  • so basicly the t in words is like a southern american accent

  • Socket? ups.. I ended up saying sucker..

  • i love the part where u cleared your throat! lol. these videos of learning the scottish accent are fun. i live in northeastern america. i'm trying the scottish accent. not doing to well, but i'm trying! lol. you're awesome! :)

  • you make socket sound like suck it

  • that dropping of the "t" and the sort of sound that replaces it is called a glottal stop : ) we studied that in the phonetics class, it was funny to listen to my colleagues struggling with it, hi-hi-hi

  • I love the way you pronounce buh'er (butter)

  • I just love this!!!!

  • i think I love you. hahaha

  • Sounds Harry Potter...ahahahah

  • Just like some british.

  • is that a mole? thats one big mole...

  • you're a mad man... :D

  • Are you a McLeod?

  • lol, u started off posh english, then typical scottish

  • sounds a bit more britsh...

  • Wha part of Alban are ye from? Laird you are numpty ladd... Nye, really I've the upmost appriciation fer ye tryin to teach these American bastards somethin they could use.. I do get tired of the whole " I love your accent," shite... Cheers to ye... I am from Elgin... Live now in Oregon, USA... Keep it up mate...

    Lord Rob MacLean

  • "oh my god I look like a chimpunk" LOL - so random

  • I enjoyed video lesson 3 because you had an american accent in comparison with a scottish accent. It would of been great if you could repeat the words a few times. Also, I agree with Peachesandsushi. Relax. I need to see your mouth when you pronounce the words. All in All, you sound great.

  • @SusanHerrera777

Hey, Susan! if you have to see things twice, there's a great feature called replay, which you actually may use as often as you like. Perhaps that's for not being boring other people, who take less time learning "their" scottish. I've actually seen it thrice an I laughed my butt off - then I saw, how stupid that looks and laughed it on again.

  • Can you teach me Posh Accent???

  • Love watching these videos, mostly because now I can finally see the Scottish influence on my Texas accent. We also leave out our Ts, and most of our Rs also get rolled. Yay for this area being settled by Scotsmen! =)

  • what is wrong with your accent at the beginning lol? really bad english accent.

  • You grew eyeglasses since your last videyo!

  • thuss wanss actuall giidd :L

  • WDF??

  • uh your so lucky to have a scottish accent. i love british accents to im canadian which is basically the same as american, i here that they are slightly different. But anyways having a plain canadian accent( if you can even call it that) is extremely boring.

  • same as england! FTW :D its called a glottle stop i think ;]

  • the loudness is eyecatching so keep on being yourself its better than being phoney your videos are awesome

  • LOL You're hilarious, man!

  • Quite easy to say cat and socket but I just can't pronounce butter...

  • @Mucker72 i'm scottish and saying "butter" is quite awkward actually haha because it's like "buh-uhr"

  • Oh my gawd it's the green elf that holds the treasure! I'd better catch and torture him to gief me my gold!

  • hahaha your so funny , Im glasweigan but your the funniest teacher yet on the scottish slang.. pmsl

  • I wonder how he'd say 'Artillery' xD

  • this sound is called the glottal stop...

  • ...sounds British...

  • acually we dont replace the T completely.... if the word starts with a T like... Truck or Tincker... we still pronounce it... jsut for people who are very dumb and are going soemthing like... UGH-uck and UGH -incker lol.... plus in all generalness , i dont curl my T's, it depends where u live, so this video will only suit u if your going to the nothern parts... but the slang is still the same mostly...

  • This videos are brilliant, i've enjoyed every one of them, keep it up.

  • You look like Charlie but you sound like Desmond!

  • Love learning to emulating your Scottish accent. however, you do come across as a 'wee' bit abrasive. Take a few steps back from the camera, and relax a bit. Although we live in other countries you don't have to shout through the microphone to be heard. But I'll watch the shows nevertheless, just felt compelled to give a little bit of constructive criticism, please don't take personal offense to this. :)

  • @Peachesandsushi Of course I won't - thanks for commenting nonetheless. :3

    I can't help being loud, heh - it's what I do.

  • @RayTheFox I think it's awesome :P

  • @Peachesandsushi hes awesome

  • @Peachesandsushi

It's way more fun if he does it this way tbh

  • Do you use the really Scottish 'u' (like, say, in 'rural') when saying "butter"?

  • @Hedgehogs4Me No, it becomes an "uh" sound like in "fudge"

  • @RayTheFox I think you simply forgot the difference between long and short vowels! :-)

  • HAHA, when your talking english it's hilarious! xD

  • You are kind of awesome....Subscribed! :)

  • This is funny as f*** lol

  • dude your funny!!!!

  • What you're talking about is what linguists would call a glottal stop. xD

  • You are a fucking joke pal.

This site has so many hits per day, I don't know if the people who click this do this for an insight into our dialect, or, alternatively, to laugh at you (like myself)

Hopefully it is to laugh at you, but what a terrible example you are for our country. Really, without trying to disrespect you. But pleae, quit the videos!

  • you might look like a chipmunk, only makes the video all the funnier xD

  • omg i nearly died on that opening line lol

  • Exactly the same as English English then. If you're sophisticated you pronounce the 'T', and if you're not, you don't.

Oh, and by the way, the sound you're replacing the 't' with is known as a hiatus.

  • your a little weird lol.. I love scotland

  • a little is understatement.... =)

  • rite ok who has hiddern his medication lol

  • 1:01 buh-err!!

  • Hmmm. First of all, have your mouth slightly open, your teeth just open enough for you to be able to bite the tip of one of your fingers. Then place the tip of your tongue slightly below the roof of your mouth, just behind your top front teeth. Then blow out air as powerfully as you can, with your tongue and teeth in that position. The tip of your tongue should 'vibrate'. If it doesn't work, adjust the position of your tongue and jaws very slightly until you find the right position.

  • LMAO.

  • mmmmmmmmoooooooooooolllllllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. holy moley

  • This is hilarious, I have tears running down my cheeks. this guy is really funny!!!!

  • Ewan McGregor speaks exactly like this (more notoriously on long way round/down)... I never gave his Ts much thought but with this video it's very clear now! great, and funny, lessons :)

  • that scottish socket sounds nearly exactly like the german word "socke", because we germans pronounce the "o" just like the scottish

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAAHAHA!

  • Well, this one was easy...I already talk like that, lol. Well, not with the t's in the middle of words, just at the end.

  • I've always suspec*ed tha* the Sco**ish accen* tend to leave ou* the T's in the middle of their words and/or the ends.

  • omg lmaoo that actually made me laugh that is sooo true :L wow i always say caH not caT aw legend i love you <3

  • Didn't the Irish go to Australia?

  • Not all, my family went to Scotland

  • I mean to prison.

  • sorry i thought you was on about during the Famine lol

  • Ah I see.

And to America obviously. During the famine I mean. As did everyone. Including like a fourth of the swedish population in the 1800's. (I'm Swedish)

  • Did the Irish go to Sweden?

I never knew that, Are you Irish Descent?

  • Haha, no not that I know of.

And no, I'm very much Swedish (and a little French).

  • australia was for English and Welsh! We had New Zealand, porbably cause it's bloody rainin all the time........more like home!!

  • What's Australia got to do with it?
