Nice video, reason is such a nice program. Cool that it can be linked to Cubase to so one can use both at the same time.Reason got nice presets to.Im a big fan of the subtractor. If you want to listen to some good electronic music you can check my channel and have a listen if you feel like it : )
PLEASE HELP!!! I just bought and installed Reason Propellerhead 4 for my Mac. I don't have a midi or audio interface...all I want to do is create my own beats but there is NO sound when I plug in the lights....do I need anything extra or am I doing something wrong?
yes providing you have knowledge how to write death metal beats.. not sure how you would replicate double kick but it will be possible... basically you have 1000's of drum sounds and the timing etc is up to you.. if you use numerous sequencers at once with effects on each the possibilities are pretty much endless
@The7thL, you probably could, as Reason does have a guitar synth. But I'm really only familiar with FL Studio. I've been using it for years and have made a number of death/black/grind/metal compositions. You can get it to sound pretty good if you have the right samples and plug-ins.
Hi there, I recently got a keystation 61es keyboard and hooked it up to reason. I have recorded a track on the sampler and a track on the redrum. The only problem is when I play back the track the volume on the sampler goes way down and the redrum stays the same. I had a different computer and I never had a problem with this before. Any ideas why this is happening?
I'd also like to add that it would be wise to experiment and at least become fluent in operating any major DAW, no matter how stupid you think it is. In this day and age, where DIY technology is readily available, it's nothing to run into someone that doesn't use what you're using or vice-versa -
when someone says something juvenile like, "nobody uses ______", you would be wise to learn what they claim no one is using...because most likely someone's using it!
Hey, YoungBrit! Congrats on purchasing Reason - you don't need a keyboard to work with Reason (you can always use the Matrix to sequence your NN-XT, NN-19, Thor, Maelstrom, or Subtractor). You can simply sequence your beats right in ReDrum...
I usually rewire Reason through Cubase or Pro Tools for complex indigenous percussion runs...n' stuff...
you dont need it, but it is reallly hard to work with the pencil of the software, you cant make the music sound as natural it should be, like a guitar.
its best if u have a keyboard, reason is a different program comapred to fruity loops, u can still use reason but its diffictult to make beats in reason with out a keyboard, u cud either buy a keyboard for reason, or download midi device drivers, and use ur regular typing keyboard as a midi keyboard, but i recoment buying a keyboard
no but it sure does help. i have a axiom 49 and i love it. for the money the m audio axiom series are the best for your buck. wieghted keys, faders, LED screen, MPC pads, pitch bend and modulation. its loaded
I can't imagine any pro producer would use FL. Good for a hobby but you'd never release a track made on it. I use Reason 4 rewired to Cubase 4. I do find Reason's arragement window rather annoying and takes me longer to edit in that then Cubase but it comes with some great modules. So I get the best of both worlds.
I used fl for a few years, than switched to reason and noticed a drastic improvement in quality, the sound was just so much closer to pro than fl, fl has good points but reason just has everything too, not to mention better sounding.
The sound of Reason is better than FL i used both programms for about 7-8 years. The sound of FL is to cold to digital most studio producers like analog warm sounds so they bought a analog mixer not a digital and thats what reason sounds like !!!So FL never had a chance in sound (evan with the vst instruments) in reason you don't need vst instruments (thats why you can't use them) the programm don't need ohter synth it has everything you need ! You only have to use it right !
The fl is alright its jus the sounds are not that good when i make beats i usually master every sound and have to mess with the high mid low EQ and effects ta get a good sound out of it.
hey i'm new to making beats what is a good program to get i have recently just bought sonar 4 but i don't know anything about it i just got a mic and a labtop hooked up but i want something where i can make some real ill sounding beats with istrumantal and all
Logic, Ableton Live and Reason are very popular for 'beats', dance music etc.
Sonar, Cubase, Reaper... all the sequencers can do it. It just depends more on the interface than anything else; under the hood they all do the same thing...
Except... Reason is very stable, but you can't record audio direct into it. Instead, it keeps a closed environment and gives you a vast wealth of soundbanks, samples and patches to work with. I use Sonar in conjunction with Reason.
For all of you that feel like reason is hard. Just try learning just the drum machine. (redrum) Once you figure that out. everything else will fall into place. Also, I believe that reason is the best so far as actual music compisitions. Fl studio is good for that dirty south type beats. It hits way harder than reason. But one major rule of beatmaking is: It's not what you use it's how you use it! If you have either program, you are in pretty good shape.
you guys are all so caught up in your little bubbles hating on reason like that..
it is only stock sounds if all you got is finger to click a mouse with...
any of you guys have any idea what the power of Rex is? you make your own sound clips you can record (maybe not directly without midi) and then do as you please....or just write stuff. use all the synths and mods to make a sound your own. its alot more complicated...the only froot loops in this box are you guys
fl studio is better, remove stocksounds and get your own sounds, all you can do in fl whatever you want, plus reason is everywhere the same, wich reaosn user pc you take!!so one reason user can exacly copy a other mans style, check out dj babu and dj khalil en algorrythm ,all pro producer but got same sounds ahaha,so when you listen to trheir albums you chear exact same style ,but everyprogram is kool, reason is much easier then fl,most dont see that cause in fl they dont look better!!
fl sucks, the workflow and the sounds suck. it doesnt even have a full drum machine. Vst's are overated,There is nothing those vst's can do that my thor or malstrom cant. if i needed to use vst'si would just rewire it through ableton live 7 just to avoid flstudio
cubase 4 = 1000000000000 better then reason, any hardware of software you can hook up to it,turn it into your own program and all, reaosn is stocksounds!and effects!so what you buy every one who uses reason got it too!so an reason user can re create your beat easly!!

Their are free programs that turn your computer keyboard into a musical keyboard. Check google and yahoo. Good luck.

Reason is the shit. It gets no better. Go buy it
Bballer0905 4 years ago
I'd say that FL Studio beats reason anytime.
It's a "klick and play" kind off program aswell as a recording program + it allows VST and such.
Even tho I like Reason alot my first choice is FLS8, but if you dont wanto use it nomore id recomend Cubase 4, no doubt.
