Wow, her voice actually has substance to it. And despite the fact that she has a fairly good range, she doesn't rely just on her high notes just to get her by like most female Japanese singers. I like this song a lot, but I prefer her actual music video for Why, the song she sang for Crisis Core. Then I get to hear her sing, and I don't have to see Zack die... Again.

what I really hate is this stereotype with Japanese singers & high-pitch voices...there's plenty of talented Japanese singers out there who have great voices, who aren't so "high-pitched", singers like Ayaka. In fact, Japan has plenty of great singers like her. But these singers are usually the ones pushed into the background with much less exposure. Compared to those overly-exposed, lesser-talented, idol singers with "whiny" voices.

you just have to pick the right singers.

true...it disappoints me that cutesy female idol groups, and idol groups in general are so in the rage nowadays that they're overshadowing all those amazingly talented Japanese singers and musicians like Ayaka...what makes things worse is that ppl who know nothing or very little about Jpop often have this assumption that Jpop are all about these cutesy and lesser talented idol groups.

When in fact, Jpop is much more, and there's many great Japanese singers who are more talented.

Actually, there's plenty of very talented Japanese female singers who aren't "whiny" like Ayaka, YUI, Crystal Kay, Nakashima Mika & Utada...it just depends on who you have listened to...those really high-pitched, whiny ones are mostly the 'idol' singers...but many of the regular singers like Ayaka & Utada, have very nice voices & they actually can sing really well.

It's mostly about picking the good ones to listen to.

It's not just her voice that makes her unique but she doesn't look so manufactured and spoon fed for her musical direction. Even if she is just slightly, she knows how to throw in her sense of musical creativity which personifies her personal style and charisma and that makes it more genuine for everyone and not just the japanese.
