I love the gobs more power the 44 has over the R22.. He picked up into an easy hover/lift off at just over 16 inches of power!! Nice!! I remember pulling every bit of 24 inches just to sustain a hover with me, my instructor and just 16 gallons of fuel..
That is NOT how you do a mag check. Its only a small point until you drop a mag then you find out that ohh what happened there...................BANG!!!!!!!!!!!
He was checking the engine magnetos, its part of the engine checks that goes on before the take-off. The magnetos produce pulses of high voltage that are used on the spark plugs of the engine. They run completely independent from the electrical system so that if you have an electrical failure, the engine keeps running...
Same as any other helicopter except the cyclic comes up between the seats and tees at the top so either the pilot or instructor can fly. The top of the tee teeters, but the teeter doesn't do anything to the helicopter. In this video, the cyclic was removed from the left. seat.
Our instructors made part of our pre-flight check and always called out what we said. If you go at it without it you are bound to forget something that can endanger your flight.
Always use caution. You fly safe, you'll enjoy the flight.......Safe flying to all.
why is he cheking the magnetos twisting the key all over direction many times? it supposed to be 2 movements to the left to check the left magneto, then 2 to the right to normal position, then 1 to the left for the right magneto then put it back on the on position, is the way this guy does the normal procedures in the R44? i am going for the 5 hours transition next sunday, please let me know about this, thank you.
hi rafaelpinky21. Here is what he does : (BOTH)..M2..BOTH..M1..BOTH.. and M2..M1..BOTH. It's a correct procedure for testing magnetos. He checks M2, then back to both, then checks M1, then back to both, and again checks M2 vs M1 to compare engine rpm loss. Concerning your sunday transition, just do as you were taught to do. Break a leg ! ;)
Is the pilot able to control when the rotor engages the engine?

The mag check is SOP, your climb out takes balls, well below auto slope. Nice though.
