I've enjoyed both of their works and would agree with you critiques of them both. I think Tarintino has inspired more imitators (and bad films) which only makes his brand stronger. when he actually releases a film the fan boys come running.I do find his over use of jumping back in fourth of continuity annoying. Rodriguez is the Ultimate in DIY filmmaking. Like Tyler Perry I don't think a writing class would hurt.
Thanks for the update.... I just checked out your channel lots of QT clips I'll be listening to. And I noticed the "True Romance" logo... Which caused a question in my head. How different would that film be if QT did direct that (in your opinion)?
@stjames36 It's hard to say how it would be because it's very different from anything he has ever directed. I'm never really able to tell how any Tarantino movie will be before I see it. For example, when he first introduced Inglourious Basterds as his next film, I had absolutely no idea what a Tarantino war movie would look like, I just knew it would be brilliant. Looking back now, it looks exactly how I should have pictured it.
He has now announced an idea he has for a Southern themed film about an underground railroad during slavery. I can't even begin to imagine what that will look like, should he decide to make it. But I'm sure that once it comes out I'll think, OF COURSE !! By the way, in terms of RR, my favorite of his is probably Sin City. In terms of Tarantino it's much more difficult to choose because I love every film he's directed without exception. In the end it would have to be Pulp Fiction.
It's definitely QT all the way! I mean, I also really like RR's movies as well but they just don't reach the level of quality that Tarantino's does. QT is able to get brilliant performances out of his actors while some of the actors in RR's films tend to give over the top performances. Also, QT's films seem to be the perfect blend of style and substance while RR's films tend to lean a bit more on the style side.
I think RR consider filmmaking like playing in a sandbox with the Camera as his biggest toy(s) and probably relfects in the type of films with concern to his talent. And you're totally right about style and performances (ala a one legged McGowan)
