Even though they "Jumped the Shark" by Avatar Aang defeating FireLo..er.."The Pheonix King" which was the whole point of the Series and the Reason he hsd to rapidly master 4 elements in less than a year and Prince Zuko became Fire Lord Zuko and declared a "New era of Peace"?

What are they going to do now? Make 800 pages of Katara knitting?

What worried me most with the teaser for Legend of Korra was the Industrial feel - big cities and machines. I loved the nature and history aspect of A:TLA. I hope they don't feel they have to go Tokyo in the sequel.

@Aggaremtes The world that we were shown, that the characters moved through, was imbued with backstories, mythologies and cultural idiosyncrasies that hinted at depth of time. Some of which was revealed as the seasons progressed but far more was left unsaid. It was shown in buildings, clothes, customs, traditions in the different places they went. It was not a modern, industrial world. I liked that.

Its a tv series, not a new movie.. As an extreme fan of the show i cringe at the idea of another so called "movie". The Promise part 1 was amazing, however its not how i thought the cliffhanger at the end of the series (Zuko asking Ozai where his mother is) would continue (Zuko asking Ozai for advice). I cant wait for part 2 and for The Legend of Korra!

I hadn't heard about this Avatar comic before either... here in Belgium we don't hear much about American comics. But I really want to read it! I'll ask at my favourite comic book store wether they can order it for me. They managed to get the new spiderman comics and Buffy comics so I don't think it should be a problem.

I think Star Sapphire should have her own book by now. Carol's been around as long as Hal. It would be great to watch Carol take on the responsibility of leading the Star Sapphires, who are still getting the hang of being a cosmic peace-keeping army, not to mention watching a longtime female DC supporting character take the lead. If the Red Lanterns can get their own book, why not the Sapphires?

It makes sense, seeing as her hold on Mai and Ty Lee was broken, Azula is a conniving character that's confidence rests on her always having the upper hand, the fact they betrayed her and the fact she was entrusted to a royal kingdom at the age of 14 pretty much shredded her sanity. She was always insane but she kept it stabilized through her manipulation of people .

Thank you so much for reviewing Avatar: The Last Airbender The Promise Part 1. I just got my pre-ordered copy in the mail and have read it a couple times over. Being a huge fan of the series, much like you, I was happy to see the "G-aang" back together. I agree that it was disapointing to not see more of Katarra and Mai, but I guess this is Zuko and Aang's thing. I will disagree with you on the "going in circles thing" though. I feel that the aftermath of the war is something that needs to be -

I think that The Promise is going in a natural direction. Sure, there could've been a new villain, but still, the Promise is dealing with an issue that lingers from the problems that the Fire Nation caused on the show and actually leads into Legend of Korra.

PS I am almost 30 and Avatar The Last Airbender is my favorite mythology of any medium, taking the place once held by Star Wars. Because it was on Nickelodeon, people outside of their age demographic have been slow to discover it (I discovered it in 2008), but it still is reaching new adult fans to this day, and will continue to for years to come. I evangelize this show all the time and have converted many adults (at least 8 that I can think of now) to the ways of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

I reserve judgment as to whether this series is "going in circles" until I read all 3 parts, but I didn't get that sense. I might feel that way after part 3, but I don't as of now. And yes, there is something lost in the action scenes, but that was only because they were so poetic and sublime in the show. The action is still way beyond most fights in The Lost Adventures collection.

I missed Toph most. The lack of Iroh is disappointing. And I too hope the females are featured more prominently.

I'm looking forward to more of the Last Airbender. The cartoon was pretty good. The Ghost Rider with breasts is a little odd considering she's suppose to be a skeleton. I think you can identify gender by skull and I was wondering when they drew her did they take that into consideration. Venom reminds me of this comic card in the Marvel Metal card series where the symbiote takes over Punisher instead and destroys organized crime. I hope they Tease Winter Soldier in the Avengers movie.
