@darkdrageon Look at Nocturnus they where old school technical death metal that also formed in 87. They where one of the first if not the first death metal band to use keyboards. They where using keyboards way before therion ever was. Therion formed in 87 also implementing that there old school there from the 80's. Even black metal uses keyboards and black metal is old school as fuck, keyboards has nothing to do with not being old school.

Tech death was pioneered in the 80's by atheist, atheist was the first band to play tech death along with cynic and gorguts. Tech death was not pioneered in the 90's like some people think it just evolved into a more heavier brutal form of tech death. Tech death is death metal infused with jazz and progressive influences.

@darkdrageon um ya they are atheist formed in 88 making them old school are u retarded, if a band formed in the 80's there old school some of the first tech death bands where atheist, cynic, gorguts, and later on death. Deaths 91 album human, atheists 89 album piece of time, gorguts 93 album erosion of sanity are all considered early tech death. Death's later albums helped influence a lot of the tech death bands in the 90's and all of atheists albums are tech death

@darkdrageon Well it's hard getting my point across and yes if a band did come from the 70's, 80's or early to mid 90's they are considered old school. Also the style of music they play has a big part on the old school sound. Like for instance look at Warbringer there a new thrash band but they play old school death thrash but there not from the 80's. Also look at Mandatory from Germany they formed in 2001 but they play old school style Swedish death metal. Get what I'm trying to say bro

Well I agree with the Mandatory point, but wouldn't that imply that a Death Metal band that came from the 80's isn't necesary Old School?
