When I first noticed this song (forgot I heard it in the movie)it reminded me of my fiance who pasted away a year ago. I didnt know the name of it ;who did it ;or what all the words were. When I found all of that and saw the video it took on a duel meaning for me. Great song and video. It's cool, I saw some other videos of them playing this song live years ago, and watched the performance progress. The "Yeah yeah yeah yeah" hand motion caught on 100% with the audience, Stipes made motions to match the lyrics ... it's really cool how it developed over the years.

Also, I love the band sings background vocals live. It sounds sound much better "Maaaaan on the moooonnn" rather than just an echo from the studio recording.

"Man On The Moon" is pretty much "Everybody Hurts" minus the Simon&Garfunkel bits and more "up-tempo", if that term can even be used for any REM track except the passable "Shiny Happy Morons" (and passable only because the B52 singer is involved in it, giving it some much-needed spunk.)
