@6887204gt Depends upon how many items that don't go as expected. As an example, some folks don't experience broken harness wires, waterpump, brake masters, trans tailshaft, power steer pumps, all with leaking seals. Plus, numerous other items. Did these things make the swap more difficult? Yes.
@jersthecool do what? it gets great gas mileage. it light, makes easy power and not burdened down by weight. where did you get an idea it would have terrible mileage?? if you are concerned with gas mileage period, any type of racing is not for you.
@jersthecool do what? it gets great gas mileage. it light, makes easy power and not burdened down by weight. where did you get an idea it would have terrible mileage?? if you are concerned with gas mileage period, any type of racing is not for you.
@jersthecool who cares about 2l or anything else. this is about torque and power. LOL. gas mileage..... this is fuel injection age. i got awesome gas mileage 18/25 not that i ever gave a fuck about it.
@vodka1983 Haha sorry man I'm learning about engines and shit but the more liters an engine has means the farther the piston travels up and down but with a larger capacity like a 5.7 liter doesn't it take a shit load of fuel compared to a 2L? Or am I missing some major shit lol
@jersthecool Gas mileage has to do with how efficient the motor is and how much weight it moves or how much work it does. A big V8 moving very little weight is going to get better mileage than expected. I wouldn't expect that mileage was much of a consideration with this car but I would expect it get fair gas mileage.
@shananagans5 Wow good to know thanks! I always thought the bigger the engine the more fuel it had to use to get it going because there's so much space in the cylinders
@jersthecool That is definatly true at wide open throttle (WOT) but at idle or low throttle the air going into the engine is highly restricted so the full capacity of the engine (5.7L) is not being fully used. at idle or light throttle the fuel effeciency is only slightly lower than a much smaller engine that requires more throttle and RPM's to do the same work.
@bigredhelland Yeah that makes sense I still thought it would be a lot worse having the pistons move up and down almost 3x farther then a 2L but yeah at WOT I can definitely understand it
@jersthecool dont forget that larger displacement also means more air being let in, cars actually run better with a lean air/fuel mixture. look at the operation on a turbocharger.
it depends what the car is used for. SR can make great power with the right turbo setup. its easy to make 400 with twin scroll and still have a fast spooling setup. that would rape a stock ls1. advantage of ls1 is the torque in any rpm range and its easy to mod staying n/a
Nice swap, very clean. I'm wanting to do this swap myself but it's gonna be my first project and I don't wanna get in to deep over my head. Would you guys recomend this for a first project. Thinking about a carbed 350 instead.
I'm interested in doing an LS1 swap in my 95 240sx. I heard that you have to cut into the chassis though or something like that and I plan on doing it myself. Did you just drop yours in or was there cutting involved?
you might have to make modifications to the transmission tunnel, which depends on the mounts you use and cut some around the shifter, once again depending how you make your mounts.
"cool car, stupid choice" are you joking? I'm a Ford Guy but the LS1 engine is one of the most respectable engines out there...This car with H/C/I could spank a SR20 on 20psi any day
H/C/I could also easily net you over 400rwhp. I'm not dissing the SR20, but the LS1 is a very respectable engine, If you want to start comparing look into the RB's. Then I can see it beating LS1 at lowish boost. I know several guys with SR 240's that are not that fast, but I know a guy with a RB25DETT in a 240...It's fast
for sure. we had rb26dett in a 240 hatch last year. i loved it. so nasty. only problems are parts for them, but its real fun! most people sadly use them in single turbo conversion for drag.
Very true. I like the responsiveness of the twins, and it seems the single conversion is the norm both for the RB's and the 2JZ's. They make gobs of power, but the spool time is crazy long.
2800# fully independent suspension with good weight distribution and the best after market body, suspension, brakes, and style around. Yeah, stick with your red neck beaters and talk how much you fuck your sisters.
OF all things, and LS1? In a 240? Why?? Bored of the sr20det? I mean, it's a muscle engine. Leave it to them.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a tuner hater, I love them, but I have this thing against about crossing over. Just how Tokyo Drift fucked up with the 'Stang in the end. It's just... retarded.
lets see. its between that or going with bigger turbo on my SR. and for the price i got the motor with t56 and all accessories (just about) i broke even parting out my swap, plus another 1600 for small time mods.
so yea, drifting with 350ish hp N/A is what i was aiming at. and that is stock. i would have to go with something >gt30 to get that on sr. s15 turbo would max me out around 300 hp at 17-18 psi
I'm pleased to say that I've found myself less critcal of your work. Atleast you KNOW your shit. I was trying to draw the ricer in you, but I see you're not in over your head.
how hard is this swap

@uruguayo54 The ls1 is an aluminum 300+ hp 5.7 litre v8 buy GM. It also weighs less then a sr... I wish my 240 had one.

Did you have to cut into your cross member? I heard you have to do so in order to make room for the oil pan.
thacrunkmasta69 2 years ago
yes you have to cut/reinforce ls2 pan, cant use stock ls1 because its rear sump and ls2 is front sump.
vodka1983 2 years ago
you can use a 04-06 GTO oil pan and notch the stock crossmember

Hope to see y'all out at mineral wells. I've seen a couple 240s with LS1s out there.

Weight would be same as stock 2.4{52/48}! LS14 is a beast learn how to control the wheel hop.

brilliant. the only drawback is the nose of the car would be a little too heavy.
