When I first watched it I thought its about the Korean War since its a war between North and South until someone told me it was an alternate ending to WW2 :C

The movie is AMAZING with great music that makes you want to cry and animation and the voice actors (in english) match the character and a great romance

Makoto Shinkai always seem to have a deeply depressing theme to most of the Anime Movies I've seen. In most of his character developments they all seem to have one thing in common, an undying state of depression.

Awesome anime, no doubt. However, after watching it, I don't think it lived up to its title. Its title sounds really emotional and surreal, and the movie attempted to create these emotions but I think it failed. The plot was just not structured well enough and the character relationships didn't 'feel' convincing. Again, enjoyed the movie, but other anime movies have really raised my standards I guess. Still looking for the next anime 'high' :).

@14thPianist What I guess is that the trailers were produced before the actual screenplay was finalized, therefore those scenes might have been deleted from the final release. The other possibility is that, for Japanese, due to their purist culture, rather than making a trailer made entirely out of snippets from the movie, they would prefer making a trailer that can stand alone. For animated films, the relatively low cost for scene production makes it feasible.

Well, from the trailer itself it's pretty easy to see it's a meloncholy story of tribulation and desperation. Focuses around kids and there's a Tank so we know it's during war time. Probably it's a story of children trying to survive and hoping for a better tomorrow that just doesn't seem anywhere in sight. Though I haven't seen it, I'm really looking forward to it. I loved Grave of the Fireflies ( one of the saddest movies ever made! A tear or two guaranteed)

This is such a great anime, Voices of a Distant Star was also great although very short and left me feeling depressed whereas this one ends happily. Still an emotional roller coaster nonetheless and it was composed very well. I wish more people would give it a chance, but some of my friends complained about it being slow and boring, but it's an artistic anime and you have to appreciate the beauty in it.

It was made by more then 3 people... although there were only 3 people MAINLY involved with it they had a whole crew of people under that.
