what is the shelf-life of this recipe (with buttermilk substitute)? how long does it stay good if I keep it refrigerated. I would like to give this a try. Might I suggest to include in the videos the expected shelf-life? Thanks @pastryparrot. your videos are extremely helpful.
Hello, I have a question! I live in Uruguay and we don't have sour cream, also we don't have butter milk or heavy cream. Are there any alternatives that you know of? I have not seen cream at all, but I am sure that it must be somewhere here... Thanks :)
@babybabylove3 Hello! I am sorry this took so long! You really need cream to make this. It does not need to be heavy cream. It can be whipping cream. I have a video on how to make buttermilk. It is basically whole milk with lemon juice or vinegar. Again, I am sorry I did not get back to you sooner. Happy New Year!
I am originally from Uruguay and there is heavy cream there... it is called "crema doble". There used to be sour cream ("crema rusa") but they stopped making it a few years ago, sadly, since it was the best sour cream I ever ate--and I have been in many countries that use it (USA, Hungary....). Buena suerte!
guess what, i was premature on yogurt working, it didnt thicken like yours. still was sour and tasted good. poured it in some homade pasta sauce, so worked,, thanks
thank you,, here in British Columbia ,Canada we cant buy cultchered buttermilk but we can get cultchered yogurt, which i tried yesterday and it seems to be working, u may want to add that.. where is down here?
@conran23 Yes. The 'lumps' are normal in the buttermilk. No. Please use heavy dream for this so you can get the right thickness. Thanks for coming by!
Hi MaryAnn.. Do you whip the heavy cream before adding it to the buttermilk? I thought your cream looked much heavier than what we get here, so I am not sure if it was whipped or not. Thanks in advance.. I LOVE your recipes & have several on my list of recipes to try! Can't wait!
@onegsoul Thanks! Actually I do not whip the cream. You are right - the cream here seems to be heavier than the one in the States. However, I think this would still work with a less thick cream. Happy cooking!
@HALLSYSKITCHEN Thanks again Hally! I am not sure if you can make this light. I haven't tried it out. I know that my buttermilk substitute needs to be whole milk so who knows? Have a blessed day!
Mary Ann this is wonderful...We do have good and plenty of sour cream in our part of the world..but DANG if there is ever any in my fridge when I need it! This recipe (especially using your home made buttermilk) is so GREAT! `~ Thanks so much, friend.
@Pattycakessmiles My pleasure Tess! I am so happy you like it! Keep warm! My son just moved to Manhattan and I know it is pretty cold! Take care of yourself!
