Holy shoot, I'm only 25 so I didn't get to watch this on TV, but my god, this woman and her show are great.

This was a time when people on TV actually HAD talent, nay REQUIRED talent to be put on television. Nowadays any schlub retard gets their own show...

@Archedgar Well said! Back in the 70's, it REQUIRED talent to be on television. Very well said. It was wonderful watching Carol Burnett on CBS on Saturday nights. We all watched it as a family growing up. Such nice times back then!

what I don't get is how the orchestra was able to pick up on the song so fast...

Good session orchestras and musicians can play pretty much anything that you request. Plus she told them what key to play it in so that made it that much easier. A lot of musicians can pick up on the chord progressions needed as soon as the person starts singing anyway. You have to remember that the musicians on this show were some of the best in the business at the time.
