  • I like how he says he was "living in a slummy part of London Nottinghill". It is far from slummy now as you won't find a house there on sale for less than a million pounds. It is one of the most gentrified parts of inner London.

  • this git supported the iraq war...cunt

  • Here is a man who says a lot of words but doesn`t say anything.

  • I can't get behind a man who is so self-righteous about how he is selflessly "giving the homeless a chance". I've been spending a lot of time recently investigating this Big Issue and the way it operates. The main problem I can see is that these vendors are basically trapped by their situation, once you become a vendor you can't stop, if you stop you go back to the same situation you were in before you started, This is why people can be a Big Issue seller for years and years with no hope.

  • This is a great video!

  • Ive no timer for John Bird.

His mindset is alien to mine.

In my view sellers of the Big Issue are working/trapped in as modern work house.

  • @imonthebox lol - so ignorant it's funny :)

  • @newcastlebooks I'm afraid the workhouse viewpoint isn't ignorant, it's very perceptive because it's unsettling just how much truth there is in it

  • That's a very odd thing to say, seeing as in those days it was an extremely common thing here in the UK.

  • The big issue is the modern day victorian workhouse, people are paid a pittance to sell this mag while John Bird rakes in a fortune.

    Bird's a Thatcherite. End of.

  • Who cares what he believes in politically - he's giving people a chance who would ordinarily be overlooked. If you look into the actual runnings of the Big Issue the sellers aren't "paid" as you claim, they are in fact partaking in induvidual franchises of the brand itself, purchasing the magazines upfront and making a profit on what they sell. It's up to them how many hours they put in. They have the same rights as you and I in the workplace, so it's nothing like the Victorian workhouse.

  • @imonthebox i just listened to this fuck-wit on the radio comparing himself with jesus, he makes margaret thatcher seem like mary poppins, a rightous egomaniacial god fearing bigot, wanker.

  • I think most folk miss the big picture - that's what john was trying to illustrate.

think global - act local should be everyones mantra - don't shy away from business - embrace it - but never forget that small or new business exist because of local people - local people are the first to be forgotten when it comes to expansion of successful business - the rick is to focus on community.

  • I mean - what's so "inspiring" and "ethical" about supporting a ban on soup kitchens?

He's a mouthpiece for the government, pure and simple.

  • Anyone who describes themselves as an "entrepeneur" should substitute the word "bastard".

  • @badnewswade here here x
