  • Ahhh, the 70's....As the 2ks are the age of videogame, the 70's were the age of action figures!

  • Mine worked great until I stuck my mom's knitting needles into its chest. I had pink ooze in my toybox for years afterwards.

  • I can vividly remember having one of these for xmas in 1983.It wasnt in a box,and my parents had placed it atop all of the boxed xmas pressies in the santa sacks underneath the xmas tree.I came down early on xmas morning and was so exited at seeing the stretch monster i woke my parents up with my screams of happiness.

  • Haven't seen this since elementary school!

  • My brothers owned stretch armstrong and stretch monster.

  • i want 2 serpants 1 to sell for 12,500$ and the other to keep and then one stretch armstong to stretch till it breaks LOL my grandparents told me about those toys and they showed me one but i wasnt allowed to touch it because they were selling it.

  • My Mom loved Stretch Armstrong, especially when me and my cousin ripped his arm off and the stretch "goo" oozed out of him all over the new living room shag rug!

    God, I loved the 70's!

  • i remember these toyz lol i have the armstrong an 2 monster.. Me an my brother wana 1 each...i think all 3 are wrap up in da addic.....

  • Lol. i used to have this.

  • heck ya i remember these but it never stretched as far as they would show in the commercial.maybe it was because we lived in michigan they were hard as rocks lol so we did what everyother boy would do.....we cut him open to see what was inside lol no wonder why my parents wouldnt buy me any new toys

  • Hell yeah old school toys!

  • Did he say 'we'll meet again, Shorty?"

  • 0:19 - 0:21 LMFAOOO "he's strangling himself!!"

  • I had one of those! I cut it open and the stuff inside looked like red tree sap.

  • @dbeidesign Yeah, mine started oozing for some reason. It was sitting on my shelf and when I picked it up, it looked like the scene of a homicide.

  • @Arnabas315

I had a Stretch Armstrong and it also started to ooze after about a year!

  • This is why YouTube is so great: I still have an audio tape recording of my sister and I, from around Christmas of '78, playing with the Stretch Armstrong and Stretch Monster dolls. She tells me to say 'We'll meet again, shorty!' just like the TV ad, but instead I say 'We'll meet again, Stroggie!!' Where else but YouTube can you see something like this, to anchor your old memories to??

  • Stretch looks like Aquaman

  • I love the kid's menacing stare at 0:22. Top shelf acting.

  • I know the toy pre-dated the movie - but this does look like the Kraken from 'Clash of the Titans'.

  • I had the green monster and my brother got stuck with Stretch Armstrong. They were both really heavy!

  • I actually think this would have been an awesome toy. Why oh why was I born in the nineties? I think all I had was a G.I. Joe that wasn't even one of the original cartoon characters... although I think we all love our old toys unconditionally.

  • Stretch Monster...where have you been all my life? Good Gravy... I need to own this!

  • My mom said i had one and broke it.I dont remember though.......

  • WE'LL MEET AGAIN SHORTY

  • there was red stuff that tasted like candy!

  • Ahh, not good for today, needed an imagination to play w/ this toy. today it's all thought up for you.

  • But i bet you TM967CL,if they came up with it again,it would be a success,I know I would get one of each for me and maybe few more as gifts, lol, wouldn't you?

  • 0:17 MAN HUGS!

  • Awesome! Now THAT'S a toy.

  • not really.....i had one of those and stretched it too far and it oooooozed a sticky red slime.....junk

  • you broke strech.. you're obviously special ed!

  • stretch armstrong, and monster, weebles haunted house, kiss dolls, posters, and makeup kits, "halloween","burnt offerings", man, i wanna GO BACK!!!!!!

  • @mattkissband "You can have anything you want out of life, except for the way things used to be."

  • @mattkissband Don't forget the Bionic Bigfoot, and the Daghoba play set, by Kenner

  • i dig how every one that had one says it got a hole and leaked and they ate the filling,.....cause i did too !!!!! the 70s RULED. stretch armstrong, kiss makeup kits, weeble wobbles haunted house, kiss dolls and posters and records, movies like halloween, burnt offerings, man, i want to GO BACK !!!!!!!!!

  • I always wanted the stretch monster, but mother bought me stretch Armstrong for my birthday instead. Ah well, I did enjoy Mr Armstrong and he is lurking in the loft somewhere. Thanks for the post.

  • Had both of these. The good ole days.

  • Wow! I did not expect to recognize this commercial, but three seconds after I downloaded it (and I saw the part where the monster's head is peering over the rock) I received a flood of memories!

  • Cool but really, did kids actually have fun with these things? I never had Stretch or the monster but it looks like you need a LOT of imagination to have fun with it!

  • i had this guy.

my brother stabbed him with something (between his legs no less) and his inner jelly leaked out.

    :(

  • God I wish they would re-release faithful replicas of these!

  • @kenwoodrd1982 I have an original, in good shape .

I also saw someone does sell replicas on ebay...

  • @CulturalMyths An original in good shape can be worth thousands of dollars now

  • it was great .if you put it in the sun and watch it melt.or leave it outside on a cold day and you could break it in large chunks.memories

  • I like how they don't even try to come up with a name for the thing, it's just "Stretch Monster"

  • try coco pops with hot milk baby

  • I remember Doug ripping Stretch Armstrong's arms off on "King of Queens," so that sort of answered a question I had in my mind since I was 13--you know, what's inside Stretch if you stretch him far enough. Also the answers on this board were enlightening.

I always thought Stretch Armstrong was a stud. I liked his cool blond hair, swept up old-style. No wonder Dad didn't get me one.

  • Cool!!!funny

  • Man, this brings back memories! I remember my brother and I each getting one at Christmas in 1978 when I was 4. Within days they had cuts on them. So what did we do? We put Band-Aids on them! I know a lot of kids did this but it never really worked. Funny, I can even remember how the damn thing smelled like plastic and rubber. One of my most cherished child hood toys. And I remember this commercial so well. Thanks!

  • Well, I can tell you from personal experience that they would only stretch so far before breaking.

I can also tell you that my mom will beat the shit out of you if you get the goo they're filled with in her lime green shag carpet. That stuff turned to rock.

  • i got one of these still.. its in great condition.. dont think i'll give it the treatment like on this add tho.

  • apparently, heat made them expand and explode...

  • I need to get one of these. WHERE?

  • "NEW" FROM KENNER hahahahahahalarious

  • i didn't know that the abomination could stretch, lol

  • These toys weighed a ton! And if you threw it at someone they would certainly be surprised, especially after they regained conciousness!

  • were they filled with sand?

  • Corn Syrup, delicious red Corn Syrup.....

  • Your right because my friend back in 1993 he ripped one open by accident and he was eating the insides goo. I tought he was faking it.

  • This toy weighed a ton! And if you threw it at someone they would certainly be surprised, after they regained conciousness!

  • must have had like an inch of rubber

  • Sretch Monster assaulted Stretch Armstrong, however, Armstrong was able to break free. After a struggling for self control, Stretch Monster decided to retreat. A Stretch Monster spokesman indicated there would be further confrontation.

  • The mean green monster used to mangle of poor ol strech armstrong everytime.. ol greenie was in a whole new league of meanness

  • Stretch monster used to own armstrong.

Greenie was in a whole new league of meanness.

  • I always wanted to cut it open too see the ooze come out ! lol

  • One time I stretched it so hard I ripped its arm off, but its ok, I only cried for 20 minutes.

  • goddamn i miss the times

  • I had both of these as a kid. Damn I love youtube, all the old commercials, movies, and just things from when I was a youngster. I'll be 38 on the 27th of this month and watching all these vids makes me feel like a kid again!

  • I had one when I was a kid and it was one of my favorite toys and I remember its arm got a tear in it and this goo came out and it tasted like brachs candy it was delicious!

  • @7DARKHELLS I do remember an incredibly sweet red candy substance that came out of Stretch Monster when it finally ripped open and I remember tearing it even more with a knife and eating more of the red blood that came out and sharing it with my brothers and sisters and my mother totally freaked out when she came home that evening and saw a bloodied mutilated stretch monster lying on the kitchen table!

Its not just a toy its a treat!

  • The Stretch Monster had such a strong rubber odor.

Also had Pulsar (76) Godzilla Sho Gun (77)

    Thanks for painfull childhood memories..

  • I had one of these too!...One day I got pissed at him and bit a big hole in his neck of course ruining him. You could stick him in the fridge, but then he would get hard as a rock. Good to whoop your friends asses with though. Kids were crazy as hell in the 70's.

  • I did that with my paperback copy of "Portnoy's Complaint" once...I got mad at it and bit it. Of course, someone then had to ask me: "Hey, why does your book look all weird?"

  • Just bought one on EBay and I love it!

  • stretch monster was my favorite toy, but one day it got a hole i trird the band aid trick the fridge trick until finally i just bled him out and kept his head.

  • thats hilarious. you should put these three lines in a book on the 70's LMAO!!!

  • There is something I find unaccountably hilarious about that dialogue. "Cooper, I understand that during today's field encounter with the Stretch Monster you expressed confidence that a simple leg-wrap would incapacitate the beast. Damn it Cooper, you're no rookie, you should know better than that! You could have gotten someone killed out there! You make another blunder like that and I'm gonna have Armstrong ask you to hand in your badge."

  • I had a stretch monster when I was a kid. I remember my dad taking me to the store to get one and when we got home and opened it all the goo from inside was running out from its neck all over. We took it back to the store to get another one and that one was fine.

  • It was red goo, right? Like strawberry syrup? I seem to recall mine got punctured at one point, and there was a stain on the carpet for years from where it leaked.

  • Who knows what the hell that stuff was in stretch. we probably all got exposed to radiation from his guts!!

  • I was such a dork as a kid. my friends would always let go of the thing when it was stretched to the limit, flinging me and the stupid toy 10 feet or more each time.

  • Palitoy, you rock for bringing this ad to life after all this time!

Dredd, what else do you remember about doing the ad?

  • I owned the stretch armstrong monster and it was the one toy that didn't survive my childhood. Thanks for posting this. Such a blast from the past, but now I want my monster back.

  • I want my childhood back....

  • im the brown hared kid

  • believe it or not im the brown haired boy in this commercial(on screen for 1 sec lol)

    i was 11 yrs old

i live in ny but we filmed this in west palm beach fla

  • how did you get into the comercial? what did they tell you to do? did they just film you playing with it?

  • How much money did you get paid for the commerical? The commerical worked, I cried until my parents bought me one

  • i cant believe how different all commercials, not just toy commercials, have changed...i like how layed back to the annoumcer is

  • yeah, pokin holes in stretch was fun.

  • "We'll meet again, shorty..."

LOL! Haven't heard that for 30 years!

  • Stretch came with bandaides and a big foam box. He had a life of less then a year.

  • A Movie Dearest blog featured video. See my profile for the link and playlists!

  • Forgot the commercial until I saw the part where the monster is crushing stretch against the tree!

  • The world needs more Stretch Monster.

  • they had to make him look like the most streotypical moster, even back in the 70's

  • Certainly. These kids weren't film buffs and couldn't give a shit what the doll looked like, so long as they could stttrrreeetttccchhh it out.

  • Well, but the lizardish skin texture looks awesome for something made from dipped latex rubber.

  • Sticking Stretch Monster with toothpicks to watch the goo ooze out was far more entertaining.

  • Just like in the movie theater! Great projector screwing up!

  • Nothing like Saturday morning commercials! Rarrrrrr!

  • I've got a stretch monster in my pants.

  • LOL! Good one dude!

  • Well quit stretching it!
