In-light of how rail-travel--particularly in the continental United States--has not really met with expectations built upon promises believed made-&-held on past reports of technological development, it's ironic that this program should open with The Who's "Eminence Front"(i.e.: The Big "Put-On"").
And while I'm here, I must also admit the aesthetic of it blends well with the imagery chosen.
LOL! Great posting the name of the music, I would like these musical score posts to continue, especially for the music from 2:00 to 4:33 and the others in this clip. I assume that this broadcast was made back when NOVA probably didn't have their own in-house musicians to make incidental music for the clips. Thank you for your comment :)
So I noticed that the pantograph is UP for the forward power car. When / did this used to be common, to where today the pantographs are up for the rear power cars. Was the pantos up ONLY for this test train? *note the camera on the first coach at 4:25 - 4:30*
I don't know what it is... but this intro music sounds so... first half of the 1980s.

YES! Thank you for posting! I remember this broadcast!
I was looking SOOOOOOO forward to High Speed Rail coming to the USA - via California.
It's a 'DANG Shame' we never got High Speed Rail all over North America. I was expecting to be an HSR Operator a few years out of High School.
Thank You, Ronald Reagan for agreeing with Congress when they said "No!" to the proposal! I never knew you hated Amtrak, too!

Thank you so much for posting this! Brings back memories of watching it when I was very young.
If anyone's interested, the music from 7:20 is 'Leopard Tree Dream' by Giorgio Moroder :)
