  • This was interesting conversation for a friend's benefit actually. Thanks much.

  • Polaris still dead center?

  • No, it isn't, nor has it ever been or will be. It will get as close at it will get to the North Celestial Pole (or rather, the pole will come closest to Polaris, for it is the wobble - "precession" of the earth's axis that is responsible for the change) between the years of 2100 and 2102, where it will be within half a degree from the pole. Polaris is still considered a pole star simply because it is the brightest star near the pole and is useful for navigation and alignment. Its "close enough."

  • @jamescastelli Ah, I see. And I guess movement of magnetic north/south, the earth's axis of rotation, and continental drift (crustal movement) are not related directly. I can see how the first and last could be though if the crustal movement was large and sudden enough. How could you tell if the crust moved suddenly and the rotational axis stayed the same for the most part? Check the position of the ecliptic plane, star positions, and see if their is a corresponding movement of the poles?

  • @AlienshateU Techtonic plate movement is independent of the earth's rotational axis, and in fact I imagine one way to calculate continental drift is to measure errors against star positions. If the crust moved 10 miles west, it would be like you were observing from a town 10 miles to the west of your present location had the crust not moved. The axis stays the same. However, is the earth was struck by a large enough object, that could change both the wobble and axis direction.

  • @jamescastelli Thanks for the help and let's hope nothing like the biblical wormwood never hits us soon... if you are right the whole spin could get disturbed and the biblical claim of the days being shortened at that time would most likely be realized. God bless.

  • Polaris means Satan in Greek and burning in Latin. It appears that all the stars circle around Polaris but we know that is an optical illusion and symbolizes the the great lie of Satan that tempts mankind to follow him. The shaft of the Great Pyramid of Giza points directly to the star Polaris and symbolizes Satan cast out of Heaven and down to Earth. The Great Pyramid is Temple of God full of symbolism that Abraham taught the Egyptian pharaoh the Gospel in terms of stars and planets.

  • @EscapeNewJersey Wow. "Polaris" refers to the POLE it is (currently) near. During the Greek and Latin eras Polaris was NOT the pole star. Look up Polaris on Wikipedia.

The circle is traces in time-lapse photos is only visible by this method and now that it is near celestial north.

The Great Pyramid only APPEARS to point at the north star if looking at the pyramid from directly SOUTH of it. If you look up at it and walk around you will see it "point" to many other stars!

  • @jamescastelli Sorry but you are wrong about etymology of Polaris.

From "onlinedictionary" - lucifer - Moby Thesaurus words for "Lucifer": Aldebaran, Apollyon, Beelzebub, Canicula, Dog Star, Hesper,Hesperus, His Satanic Majesty, NORTH STAR, ,,,, Phosphorus, POLARIS, Satan, Satanas, Sirius, Venus, Vesper, celestial body, comet, daystar, devil, diablo, evening star, fiend, fixed stars, heavenly body, living sapphires, lodestar, morning star, orb, POLAR STAR, POLESTAR, serpent,,,"

  • @EscapeNewJersey Etymology is about word origins, which is not the same thing as synonyms. I've never heard Polaris used synonymously with Satan: "Polaris, get behind thee!" But TO WHOM was this Polaris synonymous with Satan, WHEN, and WHERE? And more importantly, who cares? Lucifer also apparently is a synonym for Phosphorous (makes sense: luci = light, fer = iron), living sapphires and Venus. What do any of these have to do with each other?

  • @jamescastelli

onlinedictionary(dot)datasegment(dotcom)(slash)word(Slash)lucifer Thesaurus proof Lucifer, Satan, Devil etc. is synonymous with Polaris.

  • @EscapeNewJersey What are you trying to tell me? Proof that men have used words interchangeably? And Michael Jackson made "bad" synonymous with "good" - your point? Is it the WORD that is synonymous, or the HORNED BEAST that is synonymous with, respectively, several stars, planets, gemstones, matches, etc.? Just because people have used the same word for different things does not mean the different things are the SAME.

  • @EscapeNewJersey Other stars are also apparently synonymous with Lucifer, namely Aldebaran and Sirius. They are nowhere near each other.

  • When the Pyramids where looted for gold and other treasures much of the true religious symbolism was destroyed and that was the true treasure. Over time the religious truth Abraham taught the Pharaoh was perverted and much was lost and what remained was the perversion known as astrology. Why is the unfinished pyramid on US currency, why was Jesus taken to Egypt to save his life as a child, etc.

  • @EscapeNewJersey Why are you doing this to my lovely astronomy art?

  • @jamescastelli What am I doing? How have I harmed your "astronomy art".

  • @jamescastelli The stars appear to orbit around Polaris and I was interpreting the symbolism.

  • I just used iMovie. It is what I have, so I don't know if there is better. I'm sure there is since it can be a bit time consuming, which is why I've done so few of these.

  • What software do you recommend to use, to make an animation timelapse, using images?

  • Loved the animation. How did you composite it?

  • That was so well done. Thanks for sharing :-)

  • That was great. Thanks for sharing.

  • WELL DONE

  • How are you getting the star trails to animate? Pretty amazing.

  • @jorchard13 ,

So you'd like to know my secrets, would ya?

All I did was stack each image and then animate the stacked images. For instance first frame is image 1, second frame is a stack of images 1 & 2 and third frame a stack of images 1, 2 & 3, and so on.

  • Also, obviously I just described the second half of the animation. The first half is an animation of the unstacked photos.

In both cases it was possible because I took a series of one-minute photos instead of one long one. So really I don't have a single star trail image, but up to 50(?) short exposures.

  • Thanks for the comments. I just wish I was able to get out under dark skies more to take more photos.

  • very cool! time lapses are the best.

  • awesome!

    i'm dizzy.

  • its because stars go around the pole star pole is north and earth obits on its axis pole star same place so they move around it

  • ¡Great job!
