I think an interesting angle would be to switch places. Put the jews in the germans shoes and give them that power and put the germans in their shoes as a minority group and ask what kind of treatment they would have recieved.
It was so, so disturbing. But an excellent film, because it wasn't as physically violent as most Nazi films, but it really depicted the tragedy of the situation. I think this film brought it home to me like no other how terrible the holocaust was, I was disturbed for days afterwards.
@astaliini I haven't seen this film yet (but really want to!), but you've hit on an interesting point (at least in my mind). Was being Nazi bad because of what they physically did to the Jews or was it bad because of what they wanted to do? Today, society is so obsessed with portraying violence, but rarely does it focus on the ideas that precipitate the actions. I am by no means minimizing the utter horror of the HOlocaust, but it all began with an idea and with an attitude of hatred. We forget.
@elenore88 I'm not sure why your comment was removed. I did receive it in my inbox, so it did not go unread. I think that any group of people, whether that group consists of a race, a religion, a political standpoint, majority, or minority, is capable of expressing hatred in similar ways. Murder takes place every day. The reason the Holocaust stands out is because of its massive expression. In truth, any act of hatred toward another person is, or should be viewed as evil.
I am really in favour of this film! Beside Viggo Mortensen also Jason Isaacs is brillant here! I consider it to be quite sad, that he did not achieve the same attention as Viggo Mortensen did.
I was so unsettled when Halder is searching in the KZ for Maurice and had to recognize that he is dead. Dead not least because of him. It definitely made me cry - this awareness that Maurice didn't survive.
@latinoheat300 Sigh... fine, however you might want to do some research and you'll hopefully find that... The "Hebrew" and Christian Hell's arn't different at all...
This movie is shit. Dont waste your time, seriously.

There's a famous quote that goes something like - 'those who don't learn from the mistakes of the past, are doomed to repeat them'.

PS. The jews are still waiting for the 'messiah'. The one who will save them from all their enemies and under whom they will rule the world.
People might (and rightly so) hate the whole concept of the third reich - but what about a jewish world reign?
Non-jews are 'unclean'. And enemies of God.
Think about it.
(And not that that excuses genocide or any kind of injust persecution of jewish people.) The persecution of the innocent is still exactly that.

@Domodeath Since I do not believe in Hell, be it the Christian, Islamic or Hebrew one, I reserve the right to use it however I please.
If you have a problem with that, you can pick a number and sit with those other people waiting for me to give a rat's ass.
