I always really loved Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. When this came out in about 1971 it sounded like they were trying to sound more modern/commercial instead of doing their old stuff, so I didn't like it much. Hearing it again for the 1st time in 38 years it sounds much better now than then. They're so great.
@RobMackenzie besides @ their peak in the 1960's Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons sounded sharp & electrifying in the early 1970's. we fans are still waiting for Motown to release 40 + tracks that are locked in the vault. we don't know if they'll ever be released.
Elvis took a lot of inspiration from the black groups true, but you are aware that back in the day they wanted black people to sound like white people to sell records right?
Back then black people were looked down on but in order to get anywhere they had to dress, speak like and act like white people.
I apologize. You did say MOST of those labels. The Four Seasons hit big after signing with Vee-Jay Records of Chicago, which was a Black owned label and run by, I think, Ewart Abner. And yes, at first, most D-Jays thought The Four Seasons were Black.
Definitely a driving Motown beat with the usually strong Frankie Valli and The 4 Seasons vocal arrangement. Certainly an overlooked gem from the early '70's.
just like other great bands like THe Beach Boys, the late 60s-early 70s material was greatly overlooked.
And that's a shame, because the albums they recorded during that time were of an amazing quality. Just listen to this song, it's a great blending of the old Seasons and the Motown sound that was hip during that time.

No, he sings like a black man. That's why their sound became so popular. Listen to black groups of that time, or earlier, and you'll see.
Or listen to Elvis compared with black artists of his time. Both sounded like black men when they sang.

@jsanch22 Their sound became popular because the mob bankrolled most of these labels.
