Turbodiesel is an engine type. Just as is turbine. I drove a pushback tractor that got 15mph at 6th gear with a 700hp engine. That same engine would make my truck dance. Power-to-weight ratio is what matters, and armor adds to one side of that equation.

Take the doors off and its ready for the mountains in Afghanistan. Until then, continue to roll out in Toyota Hiluxes or Ford Rangers. Humvee's are great in mud/wooded/paved areas, but are shit in the places the infantry needs them the most.
Aren´t you able to build a turret where the gunner can use it from the protected inside of the car or do you have to many soldiers (doesn´t matter when we loose a couple of them who cares)? That is stupid.

@controlusplease1 I had to use 3 different types of MRAPs...they were all garbage. I saw more ppl die from rollovers than be saved from IEDs, cause we only got hit from EFPs which go through the MRAPs anyway. We swapped back to to the M1151 Humvee. What we did want were ASVs since were MPs.

However, on some occasions, the IED manages to penetrate the floor and injure the crew. And because the Humvee isn't %100 successful, you call it a piece of crap. The solution isn't more armor, it's prevention.
The motorized turret is a good idea, but they should make it so the gunner does not have to take his hand off the gun to turn it. It just creates more of a hassle for the gunner.

What was was more indignating is that he came back and told us to pay him for his car, because it was our fault, I got so mad I told him to fuck off and get lost before I decided to shoot him.

GM has not sold the military Humvee aspect to China. GM will still make military Humvees for US Military if needed, but there is a program that is planned to replace Humvee.

@TheGruberHof My brother goes on patrols in humvees everyday pretty much, stryker teams? Maybe you're thinking about the army but marines have the primary role in combat operations in afghanistan, and they aren't replacing humvees for years to come.

@TheEnglishBadman I would guess the SA80 actually more expensive, its made in far smaller numbers. In my opinion though the latest models are better than the M16 for many things.

I have no clue why we canceled the M8 Buford light tank in the late 1990's because it was only 3 times the weight of a humvee, yet could take the fire fight to a whole new level. think German Blitz Krieg tactics; heavy tanks in the open and light tanks in the urban street-by-street battle.

@TheEnglishBadman Negotiate. Colt is always looking for more business. Its a rifle. Its not like your fitting the soldiers with laser rifles. I don't disagree but in terms of military expenditures, rfiles aren't THAT expensive. Its the big stuff like missiles and bombs that are. But you do agree with me on my other points right?

@TheEnglishBadman We use Chorbam Armour, mp5s and many other foreign designed equipment. We design our tech to meet our needs. Our vehicles are designed to "break" apart in IED blasts so the energy is directed away from the vehicle. Kinda like the crush zone for vehicles, except this is for explosions. Plus I think we're looking to HK for a new rifle. And as I recall your SAS used the M16 for many years. Why didn't you guys switch from the L85 to the M16?

well it sure as hell beats your lil chevy truck. we got in a car crash in an h3 civilian hummer head on at 7omph cuz a dumb ass was going the oposite way of the road with out lights and all we got was a flat tire and some minor body work wile the other car was a pancake i sure as hell love the hummer

@2011mustang5O On my first deployment to Iraq, a dumbass iraqi policeman side hit my Humvee, it just scrathed the paint and few dents, his car, a BMW was pretty much totalled, he turned around and still tried to get away, after driving for 100m his engine just stalled. What was was more indignating is that he came back and told us to pay him for his car, because it was our fault, I got so mad I told him to fuck off and get lost before I decided to shoot him.

GM has not sold the military Humvee aspect to China. GM will still make military Humvees for US Military if needed, but there is a program that is planned to replace Humvee.
