  • It looks to me like you are puting too much of your weight on the first two drills instead of letting them do their job. I have both Hitachi and Dewalt, great tools. I HAD a festool drill once and tossed it. It was crap.

  • If you "tossed" your Festool for either one of those drills, it's clear that your moonshine wasn't lol. . .

  • It does more beeping than drilling.

  • Festool cordless drills are quiet crap, they do not even make them with lithium ion batteries, they get really hot to the point where you can barely hold them anymore. And weigh a ton, hence the reason you never see them on building sites.....

  • I'd venture to say by your comments, that you've actually never used a Festool Drill.

  • Yea, that'd be why i know they weigh a ton and overheat alot hey. How do you get that i've never used them if i know that? I have used them alot and with my experience with use of alot of different cordless tools, compared to lithium ion makita and hitachi tools they are complete crap. I'm a carpenter and I'd like to see your festool in the sun all day screwing down roofs and driving in hundreds of 4inch batten screws, all day, every day. I know from experience that a Festool cannot handle it

  • that drill is how old again? 12 years? a new one would eat it

  • I have the Milwaukee M 18 lithium and the Dewalt 18 v lithium, and I think they'd both eat all those drills lunches and beg for more.I like the feel of the Milwaukee but the Dewalt clearly has more power and run time.Just my opinion.

  • Yea.... Sure seems like more power huh.... You should try getting on top of that thing like you did the dewalt. I think I saw veins showing when you were pushing on it and you were floating on the Festool. I've used Dewalt for years and they are great tools. If your trying to make people buy otherwise, Goodluck. I've worked in construction for a long time and 7 - 8 out of 10 people use dewalt. I just don't feel that was a fair test. Get a new Dewalt and and have a Rematch.

  • Festool is a complainer. Dewalt is a far better product. not a fair test. Is festool paying you for this. Sure they do.

  • As a general note, the only one "paying" is me as just like you I buy my own tools. No one pays me to do my video's.

  • Sorry Myte. I didnt mean that way. I meant like an advertisement. Sorry again. By the way i've went through your other video's. They are great. Unlike most others. You realy show how its done.

  • No problem, I just wanted to clear the air about that issue ;-).

  • Joe! You were leaning on the first two drills with all your weight... I can stop a 1/2 corded drill like that. You stiff-armed the last one and let it have it's head... of course it does not bog down... but it does stop 25 times on it's own. That drill did no better than the 12 year old Dewalt. Not a fair test by any means.

  • When I drill holes with hole saws I use a corded 1/2 Inch drill, Take care of your cordless items no need to burn them up for being ignornant.

  • looks to me like you had the dewalt and hitachi both in the wrong gear... i've used my friend's 14.4 volt dewalt in its low torque setting (1 of 3), and it is plenty powerful enough to drill some fairly large holes

  • My 18v dewalt would tear that a new one

  • Guys, just buy Metabo

  • why does your Festool keep beeping and stopping? It sounds like it's a complainer.

  • James,

That's the electronics inside the drill that prevents "you" from ruining it ;-)

It beeps to let you know it's hot and won't turn. When it's cool enough it starts turning again. Very nice feature. . .

  • You crack me up, this vid is comical! You really put those drills through hell, I'd never put my Festool C12 through that abuse, but I'm glad to see that it was able to complete the task at hand! Festool Rules!

  • Joe arguing among trade people for wich tool brand is the best the most reliable its like arguing for wich woman is the best brunettes or blonde tall or short we will never agree ! as long as you are happy with the one you got its ok for me !I like your video Joe make some more !

  • Pete,

I don't think we were arguing, I hate to argue ;-). I've always liked the Dewalt stuff I've purchased and that stuff has served me well overthe years.

  • 12 years Joe is a good life for a drill in this disposable no brands tools world we live in with all the cheap imports made to look good not being created to last long only what i say is with all the abuse my Dewalts have suffer like the drop test form the top of a roof and still work and will go on bying Dewalt,i am not saying that there is no other brand who are not worthy enough! But on any drills specialy cordless they are limits to the size of holesaw you can put on !

  • Not a fair test at all compare aple with aples, use the top of the line of 18 volt XRP Dewalt who is at a similar price to the Festool ,people always buy the cheapest 18 volts an then complain not being strong enough being an avid Dewalt user i always but the top of the line , i have several Dewalt some aging 5 to 6 years that , one would be better to use a 120 volt angle drill like a milwaukee 1680-21 who are realy made for that use for plumber and electrician holesaws

  • I think you may have missed the point. For openers the Dewalt is an 18 XRP or should I say the batteries are, and when I first purchased it 12 or so years ago it was around $300.00. Which wasn't cheap. I've got plenty of bigger drills to drill big holes with, but once again that wasn't the point.

  • We just burnt out one of those DeWALTs over the weekend, there crap, over priced black & decker, we get alot of returns on them at work for repairs. Do your self a fav and spend the extra cash and get a metabo, its well worth it.

  • Can i suggest using a 24 volt drill/driver?!?!?!?

  • Hey Joe

I also considered buying the c12 of festool, but i did not buy it because the cells are NiCd, and have a so called memory effect.

I use DeWalt 18V XRP line for drilling and though screws and for the lighter weight the new bosch 14,4V

  • how about adjusting the "gear ratio" for higher torq?

  • Looking at your clip I can see with Dewalt and the Hitachi that you are putting your body weight onto both drills. The third drill you are not putting any body weight at all and giving it a good start. What I am saying is if you had put your weight oon the third drill the results would have been the same!

  • carger46,

That's not true. The C12 will not allow to to do anything to it that will damage it. If I put my weight into it and it couldn't cut the drill would just stop. It was the fact that I used a lighter touch that made it work. The weight I used on the other drill was it they would cut. No weight. . . no cutting. Too much weight smoking. You get the idea ;-)

  • Festool are great but for cordless and corded drilling applications in my opinion Hilti EASILY outstrip everything else on the market. They may be expensive but they cannot be beaten in performance. I used to work diamond core drilling and without doubt Hilti are the toughest best drills out there. By the way - great videos joe!

  • Hey guys thanks for all the replies, but like I said it's hard to have a good conversation here if you know what I mean ;-)

Try stopping by my forum at constuctionforumsonline(dot)com. There's a bunch of good there and we pretty talk about anything.

    Joe.

  • My spelling is off too - late hour here in Sweden, over and out.

  • Yes Joe; we are in the same slowly sinking ship, the quality tool addicts ship.

I might add the Festool but I am waiting to see if they will upgrade it slightly.

(Just posted a similar comment but it doesn't pop up even when I hit refresh please forgive duoble posting)

  • Joe; we are in the same (slowly sinking) boat I guess, quality tool addicts...

I might add the Festool for "in house" work. But the reasonable sie of my brain ( which I shut off at times ) says get the small impact driver too... Hahahahahah (madmans laughter)

  • If I add the smaller impact driver from Makita (same batt) I get an incredibly strong machine that works in tight spots and this is the best route for me I guess. Still, you should be pleased with your machine for all types of work except heavy duty work where the Makitas better it. If I did all work in shop I would get that Festool - for sure. Best regards, Henrik

  • Henrik,

I really do like the impact driver as well. I've had to resist buying it many times as one can only have so many "toys".

  • Joe; I have only played around with a friends Festool. Though I am impressed with the centrotec system, the precision/silence and build, it is slightly behind the Makita in sheer performance. Also, when using the Festool in awkward positions I find the Makitas easier to work around for a nice grip where as the Festool is surprisingly uncomfortable at certain angles. With Li-Ion batts, LED light and reworked grip the Festool would be the best, now it is the best for some applications only.

  • Now I might have to go out and buy a Makita to see for myself ;-)

  • Festool make great stuff, I have lots of them. However I can't help but think my LiIon Makita BDF440 would have gone through that oak piece in a third of the time, maybe even a fourth. Also the balance and ergonomics are actually better on the Makita BDF440 and it has slightly better punch. Festool is still a great machine and well suited for precision work.

  • rltychk,

I have looked at the Makita line and had been impressed. If you have both tools maybe you could do a comparison and let us/me know how they preformed?

    Thanks,

    Joe

  • Festool is good

  • thanks useful vid
