And mesquite will also provide shelter from strong winds in the winter months. It's all about balance. Many will be surprised to find how many trees (different species in different soils, climates, etc) can be grown per acre without losing the productivty of ghe grazing - or even increasing it!

Leaving some mesquite has benefits: shade for cattle in summer; bring up nutrients from sub-soils through leaf-drop and shed branches (without having to run machinery on expensive disel fuel); enhancing resilence of land & eco-system through increased bio-diversity; cover soil during drought; help penetrate hardpan through root action.

When cutting mesquite: folks buy mesquite wood & chips to flavor barbque & smoked meats!
