I dont know about the handbrake, but you DO need to put your gears in neutral if you are at the front of a pedestrian crossing. You WILL get maked down as a serious on your driving test otherwise.
@loulabelle381 Sorry Lou but you DO NOT need neutral when waiting at pedestrian crossings. As long as the car is secured with the foot or handbrake your fine. Most crossings are only a short wait, so its more convenient to already be in gear, rather than worry about 'clutch down, first gear, biting point and handbrake off'. For a new driver at some modern 'motion sensing' traffic lights, this process can take so long the lights start to change back to red before they move off...
This comment is not true. If you come to a complete stop and cannot go again instantly then you should apply the handbrake incase the car behind doesnt stop. This will avoid being shunted into a pedestrian. You may put or leave the gear lever in 1st. Always leave your foot on the footbrake also untill the vehicle behind has stopped.
@jeffdrives The handbrake will do little if anything to stop you being shunted into a pedestrian, as most handbrakes struggle to hold the car on a hill. The footbrake is much stronger and more efficient, its only when 'a pause turns into a wait' you should apply your handbrake.
I have asked my local SE and he confirmed what I and LE55ONS have said here...
The roundabouts were the nightmarish to me, I could not pass the test 4 times, messed up only in the round abouts, thanks to the constant positive encouragement of my intructor, always appreciating about my all other skills, and thoughly trained and practised me on roundabouts so I passed the test now easily crossing multilane double roudabouts. So guys although everyfailure dips you down psychologically and crushes your self-esteem, so never give up, try again, success is certainly yours
Wow, these videos are tripping me out lol.. I'm from California, and I was just watching these because I was curious of the laws for driving in England.. and every time the car turns or just about anything really, it gets me confused because we do everything opposite. Fun fun
I'm about to start learning to drive and I'm not really worried about small roundabouts, it's the big ones with multiple lanes which I am worrying about.
ood video... bt if there is traffic on your right should you always just sit and wait in the test? a friend of mine failed because he went when there was traffic on the right but he had cover from cars to his left?
that was good.... always remember to check the mirrors before accelaratin and stopping... if you dont do this durin ur practical test, they might fail u for not chekin
when turning right u approach with the right signal on and keep it on until u come level with the exit just b4 urs,, then u switch to left signal and exit
If you don't switch to left signal at the penultimate island, then the guy pulling out of the road you're going into may think you're continuing around and wait when he didn't have to, causing minor grief!!! :(
this is chelmsford! lol where i live..... wellgot my test tomoro... so nervous! wish me luck!.xx

you dont need to apply the handbrake on test if you know you're only going to be held up for a few seconds

@sweetness2follow Exactly.. That commenter at the top who says you do is a dumbass.

you should apply your handbrake when stationary at a pedestrain crossing your left hand didn't move.

@edknight1982 Rubbish, My instructor said it's not necessary when only stopping for a brief moment.

@chan7dan6 Isn't it give way to those within the roundabout?
Myrtone 1 year ago
Yes, that is a failed test. He shouldn't have entered onto the roundabout with a clear exit.

@chappy0000 Rubbish, unless he has X-Ray vision, there was no way he could see the exit wasn't clear.. Dumbass!!
