  • I hate when I have to put a tampon in my bullet holes

  • Im living in wrong country:( Love Poland, but in here its practicly imposible to get gun promision:(

  • Hey Dave,

You mentioned 22 or 12 gauge and 12 gauge with a slug being the best all around gun at the beginning of this video. I saw a YouTube video on “cut shells”. This simple trick turns a tweety bird shot shell into a devastating big game slug.

  • hey dave nice video im a old time survivalist im gona start doing again this spring ill use my old time gear but ill start changing to the new gear that all you guys use i watch all your videos great stuff dude..

  • Dave, is this the last of the "Building a Discount Bushcraft Kit" series or is there more coming.

  • I would suggest adding the Original Swiss Ranger Volcano Stove Set. It comes with Aluminum 15 Ounce Bottle with Cork Lid, Canteen Cup, and Stove $9.97 on cheaper than dirt. Completely self contained takes up no room in your pack and is great for a quick water boil. Also a pistol belt for easy carry of items like axe/knife. Look for an LC-2 belt. A quick look on ebay the LC-2 are going for $8.00 shipped. Also be on ebay and craigslist cherry-picking each night looking for the cheap/free stuff.

  • Dave I love your show I must of seen each episode a 100 times.I have a question to I set my snairs they go off and I keep on getting nothing any advise?

  • Dude doesn't matter if he has a tampon people use condoms for water containers.

  • seriously a tampon????

  • @kingsofcool1 Percect tinder! :)

  • @videorecuts I meant perfect *

  • @kingsofcool1 Yeah... In case you're in your period, you know... These things happen.

  • I have some wool blanket my gran dad had back in WW2, these wool blanket are heavy.and one them i he made a coat out of it. that I wear around. the weight of it is like wearing a shack of potatos.

  • Dave,

Estwing axes, hatchets and hammers are drop-forged from a single piece of steel, not tubing.

    There's YouTube video watch?v=XmTY6-uL58Y

  • DAVE PLEASE READ big fan and an awesome survivor this is cool i think this is before your show DUAL SURVIVAL

  • If you aren't allowed a rifle, would you recommend a pellet gun?

  • @xXMATTanator99Xx absolutly!!! fellons can buy pellet rifles that are supersonic. ask how i know hint... there is no paper work to fill out in buying a .177 rifle mine shots 1200 feet per second sound is around like 770 i think i could be way off but i know 1200 is faster than sound and deadly to smallgame 22 pellet guns also avalable that can take down a hog w/a head shot seen ,it on here, many different weights and shaped pellets any time u change ammo u have to reset scope..

  • What about the steamer?

  • Dave - just watched these video's from Original (1) to this one (7). Looked for 8 and didn't find one. Up Coming?

Love the work you're doing and love the approach you have with your instruction.

  • Great series of videos once again Dave! I'm lovin it jus made my bedroll with a few modifications. cant wait till we can get more vids like these and the old ones. Keep on trekkin :)

  • I KEEP DRY CAT FOOD AND DRY DOG FOOD IN MY PACK FOR BAIT FOR SMALL GAME. AND I HAVE GUTAR STINGS FOR MY SNARES. CHEAP AND EASY. MY PROBLEM IS I HAVE 2 BAGS AND ONLY WANT ONE. I HAVE LONG TERM GEAR NOT 3 OR 5 DAYS. SHIT GETS HEAVY. I SAVE THE DRYER LINT TO FOR FIRE VERY EAST

  • This series on a discount bushcraft kit was terrific.

  • I would like to add something about the properties of good natural wool. The hairs of wool have a sulphur coating which causes it to cleanse itself. Woolen underwear is great when you are in colder climates and the best way to clean it is to simply hang out in the wind for a few hours and the smell will go away. Also when you have a good woolen shirt do not wash it too often because the quality will diminish. Personally I do this only two times a year.

  • Awesome video.

  • Cause you can't just get a Henry Survival Rifle and put that in your back pack and also get another gun to carry on hand.

  • My favorite survival dude....:)

  • you can get barrel inserts for 12 ga shotguns for about $100. there's lots of calibers available, including .22, .223, .45-70, 9mm and even 7.62x39. that way you can have the best of both worlds. something to think about. of course there are also over/under combo shotgun/rifles ...

  • Wool gets scratchy also because it has had the lanolin processed or washed out. Add it back. Lanolin is available at the drugstore/baby isle/nursing supplies. It also makes wool water resistant. Take a glob of it and melt it in some hot water. Place the blanket in a bit of warm water in the tub with the lanolin added to it and let it soak and mush it in like Dave did in his brain tanning video. Treat it like you are tanning it. You don't want much water as you want it to absorb all that grease.

  • re: tarp on inside, also stops blanket from going to mold from trapped moisture.

  • this is the best video on making such a pack! thank you.

  • hey guys earlier this year my family went camping at a state park and they all had tents...i said i came to camp not to bring luxury items from home...so i made my own tent out of a tarp....i made a hammok/lean to out of it...and i had it sitting on the ground...that would be a use you coud use for the tarp then use your blanket to keep you warm...plus when the sun comes up with the tarp reflecting the heat.....(or a fire) but anyway the hear bakes you!! lol i woke up drinched in sweat!!!

  • I like what you had to say 12ga is a good gun

  • I'm not sure if you knew this, but microns are a unit of length--one millionth of a meter (or a thousandth of a millimeter). Just fyi. Thanks for this series--there are a lot of great versatile ideas here! Now if only my friends would let me use a wool blanket or a poncho liner.... ;-)

  • wow!? u can just go to some ones garage sail and buy a 12 gage shotgun for lik 50 dollar? and do u need any paper work ? age limit? anything? what about the bullets how u can get them? and seriously it is all legal ?!

  • @roossi its not a handgun

  • @hajidg1980 yes I know it is not but it is a gun ?!?!?!?

  • @roossi You only have to be of age. If its for hunting. A rifle or shotgun. You need a permit if its a handgun or automatic.

  • @hajidg1980 :D ok :D

  • @roossi It actually depends on which state you live, in mine you don't need a permit and don't have to register anything except a concealed carry permit. I wear a .357 on my side whenever I bike, I've spotted 13+ bear and 2 cougar this year alone in my vehicle and from my house. I suprisingly live in a pretty populated mountain area to. Have yet to encouter anything while biking though thank god.

  • @litematter well ok I understand in that case. we have bears and a lot of big moose around north finlinland forests too, and they can be scary some times :D

  • @roossi Do you intend to kill someone?

  • @roossi yep. god bless america. but not the age limit

  • @roossi here in Turkey, you are right... all those paper work license etc got me away from hunting for years

  • Following from last post. Wouldn't it work also using two small stones as anchors under the wool balnket and tying a slip type knot over them to get the same type result as opposed to sewing cord to the blanket if i didn't have a needle?

  • Hello Dave I just finished watching this series of videos and have taken some ideas to use for my own kit. I had a question for ya. Do you find that the pomaid brand that you have for the fire starting kit works better or just as equally well as vaseline/ petroleum jelly? Also wanted to ask ass far as using the wool blanket for outer wear in your video you sewed some line/cord on as ties in order to make a closure and create a hood.

  • nice

  • nice

  • nice

  • ARE!! Dave ya forgot to edit the set up at the start on this one mate! BUGGER! don't ya just hate when ya do that lol

  • Love your videos Dave. How much does your H&R kick? With slugs and birdshot. Thanks Chrischin

  • I want to see Dave do a zombie survival video!

  • @Fadsmashers thats stupid.

  • HOLY SHIT!!!! it's Dave Canebarry ... Hopefully I spelled your name right.... Dude you are my role model( I'm only 13). But oh my god YOUR AWESOME.!! I have a quick question. Where does your path finder class take place... Because it would be more than awesome to go to one of them..If you could get back to me that would be great!

  • @NBVvideos the name is wronge but no harm done his classes ore in ohio

  • Sweet! Want one! I will put it on my list:)

  • How would you pack food and other stuff?

  • 6:30 Hahaha. Black people!

  • no part 8? bugger :(

  • An excellent addition would be some "shotgun inserts" that let you fire rifle and pistol rounds from a single-shot shotgun. This would give you the same results as the M6 survival/scout rifle. Two calibers- one weapon- very low weight.

  • Great video, thanks

  • i've been saying i the last 6 videos no kit is complet without a shotgun.and now he finaly has one on him.and he's got the one of the best single shot shotgun out thier(H&R or NEF pardners or similer shotguns.

  • Just watched all the Discount Bushcraft Kit videos . Best Videos yet on budget gear . Some very good tips i'll be off to my 99pence store tomorrow .. Many Thanks for the Vids.

  • before washing a new blanket soak it in what ever brand cheap hair conditioner for 1/2 hour this will eliminate the scratching.

  • cool vid but i need to ask you something i am 13 and my dad has deplode so i have some truble geting guns for a survival but i gust bote a pse recurve bow will i be able to take a food source with it

  • @outdoorthings1 skill in hunting is FAR more important than the weapon. dave has killed a porcupine with a paddle, a crocodile with a neck knife, a pig with a knife, a turkey with a stick, a porcupine with a makeshift bow and bamboo arrow with no arrowhead, caught a freshwater crab with his bare hands, and more.

cody lunin caught an eel with a sock, killed a mountain viscacha with fire and a stick, killed an arizona rattler with a stick, and more.

skill is greater than the weapon.

  • Dave, What is your opinion about opting for a blanket pack instead of a B.O.B for lighter travel?

  • Very helpful info here, and well made video. Thank you sir.

  • Some of my friend and I are going on a "survival" camping trip this spring and I'm planning on taking this exact kit. But I need to know if I have to bring the gun in a case or if I can just put a strap on it.

  • @LazyMitchell Not sure but i think you need a case until you get out of the city/town and into the woods or some kind of un-civilization if thats even a word xD then you can carry it by strap the rest of the ways pretty sure.

  • Well done, man.

  • quick question, worst case scenario of course,...what happens when shit hits the fanand you need your blanket as a garment, how do you carry all your gear?! im not asking to be negative, or an ass, i would just like to know how to adapt, im still learning all this stuff! thanx for your feed back,....Dual survival kicks ass!

  • @vetoTHEvito you could still make a backpack out of the tarp that is rolled inside the blanket, just be carefull not to get it punctured.

as a last resort you can always put your stuff in the garbagebag.

  • Hey, I have that shot gun. Kewl. It kicks like a bitch though.

  • Hell Dave the pomade seems to work better than the vasoline, thats a great fire kit paired up with a strikeforce....thanks brother.

  • I learned so much from this!! I thought the roll over the shoulder was the only way to make a pack roll. THANKS!!!

  • 5/5

  • australian gun laws suck its so hard for anyone to buy a gun, i wish we had the u.s laws

  • hey Dave About how low temp wise would you think a double sided space blanket tarp and wool blanket would be good to ? (in a minimal wind situation) to take out a variable.

  • instead of the buck saw blade you could save up for a Laplander folding saw, and that will if easy in the pouch, if you don't want the ax

  • do you think maybe using a bungy cords could be used for snares insted of using saplings?

  • shouldn't you first aid kit be up front

  • Dave,

What is the point of having a camoflage tarp and not a regular blue tarp?

  • @doogoo55 for survival you would want a bright tarp but for hunting or other things you would not want to be detected i personaly like to carry camo but i use trail tape to lead myself back

  • You gonna be adding to this series Dave?

I figured you stopped due to the heavy schedule with Discovery. Hope more are coming. Dont forget us small time folks :)

  • Use lanolin to make wool less itchy and more water resistant. It's a wax sheep produce to coat their own wool with. Most is washed during production of wool. Just dilute part of it in water, soak your wool item in the solution, take it out and dry it.

  • washed OFF

  • Dave I would love to see a video of introducing children to the outdoors. I have a

son and daughter that I want to spend time with in the woods and want to make it

    fun for them.

Love your videos , I first saw you on your TV show and then found you on the web

and I really enjoy all the info you give. Thanks Buddy.

  • Dave,

Awesome vid. Do you have any tips, criticisms, or suggestions about using a canvas tarp / cowboy style bedroll along with a wool blanket (apart from weight) instead?

  • @HillbillyNorthA1 Most canvas is not very WP, a good old PVC Poncho works well for a ground cloth and is also rain gear, you can find them for about 12.00

  • @wildernessoutfitters you can buy stuff to waterproof your swag(canvas bedroll) i dont no the price but it would be best to get a pro to do it that way u know its done right

  • Appreciate the video. You definitely know your thing.

One off topic question: Aside from water distllation -which take to long and requires a fire. Do you know a way to build a reverse osmosis desalinator? Something along the lines of the Katadyn Survivor 35, but a DIY project.

I know. Weird question. I just ask everyone.

  • Can u get single shot 5.56 because I do not like geting that close to a animal and I don't like the accuracy of the 12gauge

  • Nice little series of seven vid's. Keep em comming..

  • im lookin to added a 10in barreled pistol its a .410/45lc

  • i have a smaller 10in barrel pistol single shot .410/45lc that im lookin to add to my kit

  • Dave I just wanted to say GREAT video, you do a wonderful job of teaching.

my father is a firearms instructor so he focuses allot on firearms safety. I noticed in the beginning of the video you had your finger on the trigger allot. I have seen many ND's from many professional firearms handlers (one story ended real badly). I just thought that I would suggest, for your safety and those around you, that you keep your finger strait and off the trigger till ready to fire.

I wish you and yours well.

  • @Antondsh Don't know much about guns and such but dude was an Army trained sniper. I'm guessing he'll be ok.

  • You the man Dave, thank you for all the informative videos!

  • when is part 8 coming out?

  • wouldnt the 12 gauge kinda obliterate the kill for small game or would you use a slingshot for that?

  • @TheUprisingNinja depends on what kinda shot your using, slugs would not be ideal for anything smaller than a rabbit. You would want to head shoot the rabbit with a slud, 8's or BB are good for birds or squirrels

  • Love this series. On the show, Dual Survivor - Don't dye your beard. Simply no need. You can tell the producers I said so!

  • Man, I miss Dave.

  • wo ho that is the same same shot my dad used to teach me how to shoot a stotgun wicked awesome guns

  • great series. Appreciate.

  • when i do this i put the tarp around the pack if im expecting rain or snow

  • love the way you describe things. helps a lot, thanks

  • Very informative, learned a lot, thanks heaps. Will put to use!

  • how much for a box of those drum liners

  • good video i like how you picked up your rifle after you were done talking about fabric softener made me laugh

  • if you want to dye your rope you can also boil some water and put the rit dye in it.

    travis

  • A lot of wilderness medical experts say the one of the top things they would have in their medical kits, is a syringe that you can fill with clean water and use to clean out a cut.

I think you souls add one of those to your kit

  • A lot of wilderness medical experts say the one of the top things they would have in their medical kits, is a syringe that you can fill with clean water and use to clean out a cut.

I think you souls add one of those to your kit

  • stupid question but what kind of axe is that or where did you buy it..?

  • That's a Truper axe that he got a Tractor Supply

  • @boomunderscore0 he got the axe for $11 dollars at a tractor supply store . its in one of the earlier vids in this series.

  • Does anyone know much about the gun he had. He mentioned slugs, is it a slug gun or just a shotgun? I don't know much about slug guns but my friend said a rifled barrel isnt good for shooting lead shot.

  • in the uk you would have to use a 22. beause you can only get bird shot

  • Love it! Good job buddy.....

  • Awesome. Gonna do it.

-Rit dye to only dye the rope is expensive. $3/box, better to get the paracord or colored rotp. However, choose brown and not green, and dye your blue jeans and rope together and it might be worth it.

  • Dave,

This series of vids is completely stellar. 5*'s. Thanks for sharing!

  • water purification to for the tampon - use with electrical tape to convert it to a straw

  • that tampon is also great for cleaning shootguns!

  • @ohkaythen93 why not? So long as you know gun safety before you think of hunting with it.

  • U should ass a SNUGGY to that kit. HAR-HAR!!!

  • Did I miss the knife?

  • Many years ago, I found a guy who took the Vietnam Era poncho liner blanket and cut a slit at the same point the hood in the poncho went. He seam taped the slit and could tie the blanket into the poncho and wear it over his head adding a layer of insulaton. It was quite an idea. Something to think about.

  • tampons are also good for nosebleeds

  • lmao!

  • cool vid ps thnx 4 props 2 aussies&our sheep

  • I like stainless better than aluminum as well. Water left in a aluminum bottle tastes weird and metallic to me.

  • Many combat units carry tampons in their gear to stop the bleeding of bullet wounds, they've save many soldiers and marins lives

  • That's a very nice setup Dave! I can see allot of use for that setup for hunting trips that unexpectedly turn into an overnight deal.

  • Is stainless steel better to cook with than the aluminum mess kits? If so, why?

  • harbor freight has magnesium flint bars $2.99

  • Pomade user's head rag! LOL! Dave

  • This is another outstanding video. Its VITALLY important to understand a range of concepts that can be employed to carry gear. Using the hammock/gillie net, which Dave showed how to make, is another great option.

I love the nets I have made. They can be used solo or attached my ALICE PACK FRAME. For goodness sakes dont forget the ALICE PACK FRAME, either. They are very cheap and adaptable.

  • Comment removed

  • never thought of rolling more stuff in a blanket.. cool

  • (pt 2)a hose works well or the shower. remember when it is agitated in a washer or tumbled in a dryer it causes itch and shrinkage. gental cycles can be used if you absolutly have to use a washer but no dryers! hang dry only! also try to find virgin wool its much softer . hope this helps!

  • Thanks, wulfesinger. I always hated wool blankets because they itch so BADLY. I have extremely sensitive skin (yeah, guys, I'm female LOL!) and it was torture.

    Adai

  • quick note my ex is a weaver and with wool the fibers have barbs the more it tumbles the more it will lock the fiber like velcro and make it itch and it wont back off this is the "shrink factor"so be carful! to soften itchy wool and to clean since it is a hair use shampoo and lots conditioner and rinse well with cool water

  • Great video's dave. I'm really glad you did this series. I plan on putting a set together now that i can do it inexpensively.

  • Good video. What were you hunting (if anything)? I would think pheasants. Any luck?

  • trust me muddog plastic in the cold here in new england . suuuuucks for stuff that is high impact. even for storage it could be problematic because the closer systems tend to be thin and when opening or closing them in the cold they tend to break. As clint eastwood says in pale rider" theres nothing like a good piece of hickory"

  • Excellent video 5/5

    thank you

  • For an axe I would rather have my Gerber hatchets. I don't ever have to replace the handles on those. I don't have to worry about breaking the handles because there supposed to be unbreakable. I've had and used mine, very heavy use for years and haven't had a problem with the handles.

  • I have Broken 2 myself buddy, Cut some wood at about 5 below and you will find out.

  • Well O.K., It does not get that cold where I live and I didn't think about the cold, your lucky you have a winter, where I live were lucky if it gets down to freezing and that's only overnight. I can only wish I could live somewhere there are 4 seasons. So if wood stands up to cold better than the Gerber axe handles, fine. I'm sorry for my comment.

  • How about fiberglass handles Dave? Seems like they would be extremely tough and yet if it broke, you could still replace it with a wood handle that you manufacture in the woods because the opening in the head for the handle fits the same way with wood or fiberglass. What do you think?

  • For a cheap axe blade protector my Dad used to cut both ends out of a tin can. Then collasp the resulting cylinder flat. Then slide the axe blade into one of the flattened ends and tie or rubber band around the can and back of axe head to keep in place.

For his double bit axe he would cut a wide ring out of a car or trunk innertube (assuming you can find one now-a-days) and stretch it over both blades like a big rubber band. The blade really didn't cut the rubber unless you worked at it.

  • Aloha

Is it a big challange to get tarp out of kit in the rain? seems like you would want quick access to it in the rain. Maybe this is not a callenge in practice.

    Regards Paul

  • I think he referred to using a trash bag that was with the axe to use as a poncho. It was put in the fold.

  • thanks for the comment but I was meaning to set up shelter in the rain not using tarp as rain wear.

    Regards Paul

  • just a tip dave, i wouldnt keep utensils and tools in the same ares, or atleast bagee the untersils, just incase youve been working with a toxic wood, you wouldnt wanna eat that man

  • Just a quick comment about the gun choice, either the 12 or the .22 is a greate choice, but you can carry so many more .22's, as far as the ammo goes.

  • Its no good Ive got to move to the US or Canada, you got all the space/wild places you need and far more sencible gun laws than we have in Blighty.

  • rite on brother

  • yeah, down here in aus we have pretty good wool, its fairly cheap to

  • hi-5 for being the worlds largest supplier of wool!

  • My hats off to you Aussies. Your welcome here anytime. Every Australian I have ever met has been very kind.

  • @walkertonkidd Thank you, and just mighttake you up on that one day

  • Dave I only gave you 5 stars because there was no option for 6!

I love those H&R shotguns. Have you tried any of those add on stocks for the H&R's? I'm mainly thinking of using one to reduce weight and maybe some ammo/kit item storage.

  • dave a tipnfor wool blankets make them water repellent with lanolin (Sheeps wool Fat) Vids are great greetings from Germany

  • wool is very good ceeps you warm when wet and can be Impregnated with Lanolin (Sheeps Wool Fat)and it becomes water repelent

  • Can you do this yourself? How?
