  • Life with Father is a 1947 comedy starring William Powell, Irene Dunne, & Elizabeth Taylor.

Dunne is described as the best actress never to win an Academy Award, receiving five Best Actress nominations.

She retired from the screen in 1952, commenting that she lacked the "terrifying ambition" of some actresses and, "I drifted into acting and drifted out. Acting is not everything. Living is."

In 1957, President Eisenhower appointed Dunne one of five alternative U.S. delegates to the United Nations

  • an absolute classic. she's wonderful

  • I love old movies, but only when they are properly restored. It is clear to me based on the sound alone, that this film has not been taken care of. It is an absolute injustice to see what was a blockbuster film of it's day, in such pitiful condition---it gives people the wrong idea of the film when they can't see it the way it was meant to be seen.

  • Great movie, and absolutely beautiful decorated set, I collect Victorian antiques and live in a 110 yr old Victorian and these movies give me great decorating ideas....lol....thanks for posting and sharing!!

  • I'm sorry, but this movie is terrible. Dont post any hate comments on me, it's just my opinion.

  • @ThePedroFilms Not making a "hate" comment, but I am curious as to why you think this movie is terrible. It is one of my favorite films, no sex, no cursing, no violence, no blood, just humor and fine acting. So I am curious as to what it is you don't like about it. I am being sincerly curious. I respect your right not to like it.

  • 027:24 Hey! That priest is Santa Clause!

  • William Powell was brilliant in this film, as was Irene Dunne, they had wonderful chemistry together. Great film for the whole family! :)

  • I read this book and I loved it. So happy I found the movie on YouTube :)

  • John: I like coffee, I like tea. I like the girls and the girls like me.

Clarence Jr: Well I don't like girls and they don't like me...

  • "She shouldn't have given it to a dog" LOL

  • correction ; 4 hand gestures of 2 hands

  • what is the 2 hand gestures made by annie the maid that occur at 5:36 min ,

    6:20 min , 7:03 and 7:45 min.s ??

  • @wbelsito1 I wondered about those "gestures" myself. She does it every time she sees another redhead son show up. Some kind of "superstition" maybe? Does anyone know?

  • @kraftpr Yes, the maid was superstitious and amongst those so afflicted, red-heads were considered unlucky. Of course being in a house full of them put her on edge. Of course the ending scene with her walking in on Powell's rant was the proverbial "straw." Hilarious!

  • @HouseofBurgessesLR Thanks for the elucidation.

  • cabs are here! 1:09:45

  • lovely family film..... funny and so warm

  • lol@dog medicine! I love this movie. Hilarious!
