  • Robert Downey Jr. finally made me look ate him as a good actor.. not fan until now

  • And btw Kevin Kline is AWESOME as Douglas Fairbanks :)

  • The only thing that kills ALL bad things (even Nazism) is - simply:

    humour :)

  • Hey it's Leonardo Dicaprio lol

  • wait. did I hear FALSE pregnancy? I thought Mildred DID gave birth, just that the baby died with only three days of life. BUT can anyone please explain, I'm still quite confused.

  • ooooh! the police no!!!!!

  • lol RDJ playing wid bread rows i guess he got bored i would too lol x

  • I know how Charlie feels in this clip; false pregnancy, government watching and editing work for months :((

  • 7:25 best music ever can someone tell me who made it up or who wrote it

anyways Robert Downey Jr. is so HOT!!! :)

  • @nerdycalls It is one of Charlie Chaplin's original themes for "City Lights". He always wrote his own film scores ;)

  • @Herod9 thank you I'm so sorry for the late reply but my computer broke :)

  • in essence hes the first Elvis..unlike how 'rockstars' live it out today we have this stereotypical image that their whole day is on stage, but in most cases once the stage-lights go off their somber memories kick in & its when they start getin visited by their demons..a childhood in this case..going to any great length to suppress that..may it even amount to molesting children as Michael Jackson did or did not..a person who speaks as tho fame was forced onto them but there were many ways out.

  • He seems so serious in this movie... Was Charlie really this serious?! D:

In a lot of clips I've seen of him (in real life) he seems to be smiling a lot...

  • @keinwegzuruck You got to know that the movie is made out of his Autobiography, and Chaplin was very depressed by nature, he saw himself as a boring never smiling man, (People who knew him said different) But if i should explain myself it might be deferent than my friends would i guess :) Even if he had a motto saying "A day without a laugh, is a day wasted" he didn't lived that way.

  • Hoover... what an asshole :S

  • at 0:36 he looks like sacha baron cohen in sweeney todd when he's doing that smile

  • Kelvin Klein is a tosser!

  • i dont understand. y did the police chase charlie?

was bloody funny though, love rdj!

  • Can someone please get this man an Oscar !

  • Oops, spoke too soon about Duchovny not having any lines. Sorry.

  • It's kind of weird seeing David Duchovny before he was on "X-Files", in just a minor role with...well no lines, so far.

I also love the little nod to "City Lights" with the music and silent film aspects, starting in at about 5:00. Excellent. :)

  • THE BREAD DANCE!!! yay!!!!

  • this part of the movie is very funny!!! :D

I love Robert Downey Jr!! *-*

  • NOOOO it was originally done by Fatty Arbuckle!

  • True.

  • 0:15 > Depp did that in Benny & Joon as well!

So it was really Mr. Chaplin's :)

  • Yep, Sam (Played by Depp) in Benny & Joon was a mixed up thing between Charlie and Buster Keaton, some of his gags is ripoff from these two artists. But Benny & Joon is a really wonderful movie aswell. :)

  • Benny and joon is my all time favourite movie =) i love the bread dance part, =D

  • RDJ is fantastic... the man needs an oscar

  • love that song at 5:02 - from City Lights!

  • yeah, how did your ancestors come to america?

  • half the same as everyone else. I was just saying that we do need discipline. I've been in other countries and when you go around bashing the locals, you're in deep shit. Not in America. It's like every vice is perfectly fine here. It's like we've lost our pride and faith in our country and the vast majority just take the freedoms for granted.

I don't mean to offend anyone.

  • "every vice is perfectly fine here" ~ including irreverence to someone's country, apparently. Every nation has it's flaws but it seems only America gets to be a potshot.

  • JFK said america is not without its faults but its still the best weve managed to do on this crummy little rock

  • That cheered me a bit. Thanks. =)

  • funny that his mother looks exactly the same 25 years on

  • @guitarfan1979 its actually chaplins daughter that plays his mother!! geraldine chaplin

  • BEST PART: Minnie Decks the Cop XD

  • Much of the music used in this video clip is from Chaplin's "City Lights," which he composed himself.

  • Actually, it is "The Roll Dance" by John Barry

  • Wow.. It's as if the persn playng Chaplin IS Chaplin!!!

  • It's Robert Downey Jr. He is an AMAZING actor!

  • i agree 100%

  • i love the bread dance.. same thing was done by johnny depp in benny and joon a couple of years later.

he was an inspiration to literally everyone.

  • Yeah, it's the Table Ballet that chaplin made in "The Gold Rush" in 1926. Johnny Depp did it in Benny & Joon yep, love that role he plays in that movie, a mixed up thing between Buster Keaton and charlie chaplin =)

  • Starting in 5:04, what do you call that transition to the next scene when the scene flips around like that??? I'm typing a script and I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me...

  • From 5:04 till 5:56? This is just a guess but i would say it is a Fast Forward scene, the old mutual movies where often made in that way.

  • Actually, I meant 5:05 to 5:06 and again @ 5:56 to 5:57...

  • i knew there was something different about this?

  • yeah i know there are parts that have been skiped?? why did you do that?????

  • No idea what you're talking about, about the missing parts, I posted the whole movie and the total playtime fit with the playtime "Chaplin" got....so... Cant help you.

  • they aren't skipped...they are just out of order...but they are all there

  • 8:40

Geraldine Chaplin, Charlies real life daughter (who plays Charlies mother in the movie) said when Robert came into the light as Charlie Chaplin, she was taken back from when her father was alive. She said it was haunting because it really did look like her father had come back to life.

I know I would be freaked

  • While watching this movie, I almost completely forgot I was watching Robert Downey Jr. That's the indicator of an excellent actor in my opinion.

  • The child star in THE KID was played by child actor Jackie Coogan. He would later clame to fame as Uncle Fester from the 1960s Addams Family tv show.

If you watch THE KiD, it really is a sad sad movie. Chaplin takes personal experiences from his own life and put them in the film. Its also about how an orphaned kid is taken away from the Tramp to the work-house and the Tramp fights desperately get him. :(

  • i dont get it why are they editing the movie in a bathroom? and why are the police after them?

  • Charlie's soon to be ex-wife Mildred Harris(seen here)was trying to claim the film as an asset in their divorce settlement. She claimed that the film belonged to her. At the time, she was working at MGM and the word was that she was stealing the film for Louis B. Mayer, who hated Chaplin. If I remember correctly!

  • what did she say at 2:19?

  • Everyone knows you've been conned Charlie.
