  • This is great playing. And it sounds great, which is not the same :)

  • @pihi42 Thanks?

  • Hey Chris, I think this one needs a redo. You have the speed and the syncopation down much better.

    Best Regards,

    Jimmy

  • Amazing, my friend

  • Holy hell, this is really good. Leo and Mike would be proud.

  • Many thanks, I have picked up some of the tabs and will give it a try, although I always considered LK to be outside the realm of my possibilities... BTW, "Groundhog Day Blizzard" is a great title for that vid you posted (loved the movie); you should write a song with that name!

  • Man, you play very well, awesome. I watched Leo live 3 times (Netherlands) and the guy is really impressive. Good entertainer too. Which of his songs would you recomend as "least hard" to play (none of his stuff is really easy...)?

  • @ozuidema Thanks very much for taking the time to have a listen and for the really nice comment. I would say "easier" Kottke tunes would be maybe "Little Martha, Accordion Bells, Rick and Bob Report, Mona Ray". These are tunes I learned and thought they were less hard than others. I checked out your videos and you have captured some nice performances as well. You definitely got skills. Your Lowden is a fine sounding instrument. Nice warm tone. Ice Miner VERY NICE.

  • nicely done. love this tune.

  • 5 that´s the way a guitar should be played. great

  • You make it look easy!! Terrific stuff, mate!! Thanks for posting . . .

    Take care,

    John

  • ^^A-M-A-Z-İ-N-G^^5*****5^^

  • Nice! You make want to pick up my 12 string again!

    5 stars!

  • whats that called on the soundhole

  • It is a LR Baggs M1A soundhole acoustic pickup.

  • Very nice playing and technique for a 12 string! You tone production, timing and style are all something we can learn from!

Kottke no longer uses picks and there is a good reason for this as it does limit tonality. Excellant job! 5 stars *****.

  • Thanks for your positive comments, and for taking a listen.

  • You are welcome and I will investigate the rest of your uploads.

Have a great day and good picking!

Have you used the tuning: DACGCE, fashioned by Micheael Hedges in "Layover"? Open Gm is also good!

  • Since I spend a great deal of my available play and practice time with my 12-string, I don't really wander into the alternate tuning world much because of the efforts required for tuning. I'll usually stay in standard or dropped D. I did learn Leo Kottke's open G tune "Snorkel" on my 6 string, you will find that on my channel.

  • Point well taken ,but the 12 string is a totally different instrument in open tunings and is actually easier to play due to the detuned bass strings. Open tunings also give a greater sonority to the guitar than can't be duplicated otherwise, especially in the open C tuning which is my favorite. The effort in rethinking and retuning are worth the results. I'm not saying that you need to, what you have done is very nice indeed! But a whole new world awaits you. Good picking!

  • Really well done man.

  • Well done.

  • Tom Skerritt

  • I have heard Jeff Foxworthy as well.

  • Regardless, man this is a great cover. God's peace.

  • beautiful sound

    and excellent playing

  • Great job! I agree with klarifoon: I don't think I would have enough memory available to play such a complex tune.

    Bert

  • Hi -thats great cool sound - greetings from germany - winfried

  • Great job!

I reckon it must've been a hell of a job to practice and memorize the fingering of both hands. Beautiful sound!

  • Great Job Chris!!!!!

  • that was awesome!! Great job man. I love this song so much. Your guitar sounds great.

  • Nicely played! I remember some time ago you said you were using the MagicStomp box. Do you still use this and which version were you using previously - the acoustic model or the standard model? I have just bought a 1993 LKSM12 - the one with the Leo Kottke inlay on the 12th fret. What pickup are you using on yours and which strings tend to work best for it - the ones mine came with are a little light I think.

  • Thank you for the positive comment. All of my YouTube recordings are recorded unplugged. This video was captured using the ZOOM H2 (the white thing in video front) and the Flip Ultra HD camera. The audio and video were synchronized together using Corel Video Studio. There was no post processing done on the audio except to raise the volume a little. My LKSM has a LR Baggs M1A pickup which I use mostly for tuning. My LKSM is strung up with Elixir Heavy 13-56.

  • Interesting, thanks for the reply. So at no time you have owned a magicstomp? I could have sworn I remember you posting about one a year or so ago..

  • No I have never owned a device called a magicstomp. Sorry

  • Great job Chris. Your LK performances are among the vey very best on YouTube.

Did oyu learn it from Stropes tab?

    Rob

  • Thanks and yes I did learn it from the Stropes tab.

  • Nice cut

  • Awesome Chris! But isn't Leo playing together with Mike Gordon on that album? In that case you're actually playing both parts I guess :-)
