It is interesting that this routine, performed just one year before the 2000 olympics (and with the same apparatus) is actually more complex and difficult than the routine they composed for those olympic games. The 2000 routine was more dramatic and maybe had more feeling, but it was also less complex. They almost lost the gold medal at the 2000 olympics....the scores were very close and it came down to a tiebreaker. Interesting strategy to play it safe in 2000.
Actually, the only reason they won gold at the olympics was the disastrous performance of Greece with the clubs. Greece was clearly the best group of those Olympics and the programs they presented were absolutely amazing - probably among the best in the history of this sport. They would have easily won hadn't they made those stupid mistakes at their clubs routine.
