Actually some people have lot of time comparing the two legends like alka and kavita but according to me talent is matchless and the feel which alka gives in romantic songs no body can give and hence she is ruling

lol you may be referring to me. i think you and i got off to a bad start. my only point is this: alka can not sing classically what kavita can sing. she's just not that well-trained. in the classical area, there's really no competition. i'm sure you'll agree with me there.

yeah u r right that she can't sing classical the way kavita sings but before saying that she cannot sing classical songs let me remind u that she sung live classical song in khalnayak palki mein hoke if u know music u will also agree that it is classical I said live because at that time it use to be live recording

i'm not saying she can't sing anything classical. you can tell by her voice and control that she has had classical training. and i have a few light classical songs of hers. but they're very light classical songs, is my point.

and as for the khalnayak song - a nice song - but alka has sung more difficult songs that weren't classical. that song was very very very lightly classical, if at all. the true skill in a singer, the way i see it, is how well she can sing the most difficult songs.

and as for non-classical songs, alka is indeed great. she does inject much feeling into the songs she sings, and - as long as she doesn't hit high notes - her voice is mesmerizing. kavita is just as good in the simple romantic area, since, as shreya ghoshal said, "kavitaji is the queen of emotion". kavitaji is much better in the more complex non-classical songs as well, because, as ashaji pointed out, with such a strong classical base, one can sing any genre with ease.

I think you need to hear some of Kavitha;s ballards.....Alka is ok but she sounds the same in all her songs....Kavitha is versatile. Alka does have some nice songs...some but she is definately no way better than Kavitha..Alka can never sing Maar Dala better than Kavitha

even in bollywood, i think that kavitaji blows alka away. alka is so classically weak, it pains me to listen to her attempt high notes. she even struggled in the easiest songs in umrao jaan, it was a shame.

i consider myself the biggest kavitaji fan lol. i think she's as good as lata/asha, but probably not better. but she is certainly just as good, i mean look at her grasp over classical music! alka yagnik is nothing compared to kavitaji.
