have you ever tryed games workshops inks for watering? they work much bether imo. other thing that came in mind have you ever tryed dry brushing. im used to paint warhammers and i get much bether highlights with it. just something you should just try if you havent tryed yet. thank you for tutorials i like them very much
Sure, Black primer is good for sculpting miniatures like in this video. I tend to go with gray primer. Seems to give me a better look at details. Probably a matter of choice.
yeah, certainly, but just thought that seeing as so many people use it, i just thought it might be worthwhile mentioning. i see your point about seeing the details better. however, i don't have any problems with sacrificing that for the darker and perhaps more organic feel that i tend to get of the black primer. i tend to go for an organic, matte look. but as you said, that's just my preference. it's all a matter of personal likings. great videos. keep it up:)
really great work on the tutorial so far. it really shows how to start off with sculpting and also has some cool time saver tricks that I hadn't considered yet (the chainmail texture thing... good idea ;) ).
I recommended your tut to a lot of people because it's a real good starting point... Kudos to you, mate =)
Though you could have spent a little bit more time on the paintjob... and for priming you might wanna give black primer spray or black Ghesso a try. it's worth it
Thanks, and thanks for the 5 stars. I should make a small clay castle it would be great. I do have a very extensive project on my website its a 2 foot clay neuschwanstein. You can find it by googling "Make a Clay Neuschwanstein".
nice! i think the figure is cute! smiling from far away after a victorious battle! just a little comment on the proportion specially on the arms, isn't it too long?cant see it clearly. keep up the good work!
Thanks! I have a lot of footage of doing washing and highlighting so at some point I will do vids that focus on those techniques. For now, the next vid will be the beginning of some kind of female warrior in a 1" size, which will be a challenge!
great video really came out nice in the end, i didnt know what to expect as ive only worked with gw models but you really made that nice will brilliant job
when i prime the models i prefer the good old black spray, i just depends on your model i guess
We just had a discussion about highlighting at my mini store. I am going to try this technique on my next set of guys. I usually dry brush and use a black base coat. But I want to expand my skills and increase my variety.
You make a good point about highlighting. I have enough video footage left over from this to do a mini tutorial on highlighting, and another one on the chainmail washing technique. Look for those coming up!
Maybe could work as a statue in some terrain piece but not much more then that i'm afraid...

I started a 1 to 2 inch dwarf. Not as much detail as yours, but they're pretty cool.

What type of primer did you use, acrylic based, oil based...? And which silver paint (brand, name) did you use? Thanks!

The wash really does bring out the detail, especially if you follow with a drybrushing of the highlights. Good job and thanks.
