I'm alittle unclear, you say you dry the algae and this produces an oil. Is this crude oil, lots of different hydrocarbons mixed or is it an algae specific hydrocarbon that you then crack into different smaller hydrocarbons such as pentane.
Also does this process of cracking produce any alkenes?
here we go, algae is a single celled organism that fixes co2 from the co2 found in air but dissolved in water, it is dryed out that means the water is removed, you now have dead algae without water, you can now burn the dead algae as is or liquidfy it my heating it to a gas phase and cooling it to condense the vapors, now you have only the fat or oil if you perfer that term of the algae, this is the start for all three products.
Im a highschool student and I have been following this advance in making gasoline , petrol or even crude oil from algae, I find it very interesting. I have a one year time period to conduct an experiment for my Biology class and I want to at least attempt making crude oil from algae. I have all the resources to do so IN school, I just need the steps to do it. I was wondering if anyone could contact me or reply in a different post if you know how i can obtain this infro. Thanks.
what is the gas that is produced from the drying process?? just carbon dioxide??? like mother nature?? you mean the thousands and millions of years ago of how crude oil is formed under the ocean bed??
Can i have your direct email address

Another David James? There's enough of us about, that's for sure. I was pretty sure I couldn't remember doing this vid...

I wonder if they separate the lipids from the solids before gasification, or if you can dry it and put it straight into the gasification process.

A couple of things that he did not claim:
He did not claim that his methods are economical, that they produce more energy than they consume, or that they make more money than they cost.

I am thinking that a solar concentrator can be used to gassify algae. I am already using gasification with wood and other solid biomass.

You vaporize algae, or algae oil?

I am very curious to hear about the energy balance of the gasification process.

I believe one of them is aluminum oxide like is used in petroleum refining. One day I want to try this at home too!

are the catalysts secret? because I would very much like to know what they are. I have thought of trying this myself at home.
