  • its a trip watching this movie high! i mean it!

  • Amazing opening scene, the music is perfect. Rushed, disorienting, paranoid, perfect.

  • anyone else get jeff goldblum vibes from robert downey jr. in this? or vice versa? i dunno.

  • This is what happens when you mix Nyquil and Monster Energy!

  • I watched this scene and movie high as fuck a week or so ago, I almost had a nervous breakdown.

  • warning: dont watch high..im serious

  • This first scene is actually one of my favorites

  • honestly this movie is really boring. robert downy jr is pretty good though.

  • @siouxsiewestwood its boring because it shows you how much boring your life becomes when you take drugs.

  • @AkaMouTinn you're not taking the right drugs.

  • So the whole movie looks like a 90's music video?

  • lulz

  • i have the soundtrack!

  • @destinysutopia really? can you tell me what the song is called at the opening scene?

  • @DefMetal420 its called Aphids by Golden Arm Trio

  • That's what happens when you mix Red Bull with Monster and Coke kids !

  • @adamarchambault what a great insightful intelligent comment. thank you for sharing your unrivalled genius with us.

  • I love how Robert Downey Jr. is wearing two pairs of glasses.

  • This film must of have taken for ever to make. It would take so long to go through each frame and apply that rotoscope cartoon effect.

  • @meltonhd it took something ridiculous like 350 animators working full time for 15 months. It took a very long time to make indeed, thousands of hours.

  • drug........

  • I had a similar LSD trip once. Nasty stuff.

  • too many tic tacs.

  • this vid gives me the creeps

  • It's funny to see him on CSI. I keep overwriting his voice on the TV show with Frecks whenever I see him. My head does it automatically. :D

  • I feel his pain

no i don't think i would last a couple minutes

  • He looks like my ex boyfriend >_>

  • Who? Rory, or the dog?

  • I HAVE TO FIND THE MUSIC THEY USED

  • 1.Watch credits

    2.note down each credited musician

3.search for each of them until you find the one you're looking for

    4.?????

    5.Profit!

  • Underpants gnomes. Classic.

  • @cartoonmarc wtf?

  • @cartoonmarc I did a fresh sound design for this intro. see it here

  • In reply to Traductus5972: If you pay attention to the narrator in his suicide scene, it mentions that "instead, he began to hallucinate....." meaning he didn't die, but infact the inter-dimensional being didn't exist. p.s: i love this movie. this and Waking Life. good stuff.

  • a lot of people actually thought he commited suicide in the movie but he's shown neer the end with is head shaved at the new path rehab center

  • Freck's suicide: was just a VERY VERY VERY VERY Intense hallucination, a common thing with drugs, is that some people suffer terrible near death hallucinations, and this changes them for the better.

  • What? Are you talking about DMT? Cause thats somthing released in high doses before your death. Only lasts for like 5 minutes tho

  • No In this case, Freck's near death hallucination was caused by his suicide attempt, which he failed at. He actually though he was dead, but he was just dying. Luckily he survived and checked into the "New Path".

  • ... yeah the dmt is naturally released in your brain nearin death, just google it

  • dmt is produced everytime you sleep

  • awesome film

  • LMFAO. The bugs aren't really there. He's just experiencing the effects of a drug.

  • they totally fucking ruined this book...if youve ever known people who have believed that they were infested by bugs due to speed, well, its just like pkd described it...not the way this movie has shown it...i should know, i knew two women who thought they were infested with bugs...i saw what they did...it wasnt funny, it was like pkd described it.

  • a scanner darkly is one of my favorite books, and i think linklater did a pretty good job.

  • Dick's book is amazing. I wish this film had done it a little justice.

  • it does dude. name another dick film that came this close.

  • bladerunner may have deviated a little more plot wise but ridley scott definately kept the spirit and feeling of the book, better than a scanner darkly

  • @Cssfiend see, i totally disagree with that. I thought this was far truer to the book. Bladerunner looked great, but the guts of it just wernt there. The replicants in the book were very sinister. They wernt human because they lacked that empathy... they were psychopaths. where as in the film i was supposed to feel sorry for them and see them as something better or more than human - misunderstood and unjustly treated. in DADOES they were less than human, incomplete, hollow and so dangerous.

  • Bladerunner certainly was made more palatable for hollwyood and the boxoffices but it still felt like Phillip K Dick to me, the one problem i have with the film is the whole real/fake animal thing.

I have seen it and read DADOES more than i have seen or read a Scanner Darkly though, so I'll give this another shot.

  • I was royally ripped when I first saw this and truly BUGGED OUT for the whole movie.

  • From 1:14, it's a bit, a little bit similar to the Naked Lunch, isn't it?

  • wow that is disgusting. i hate bugs.

  • beautiful movie

  • Thats some great attention to detail, The reflections off the wall when he is in the shower is a good example.

  • Bought this on dvd and loved it after seeing a rented copy, then read the book, now it actually makes a lot more sense. There are two characters for freck, including jerry fabin who sees bugs and goes nuts then there is charles freck who is pretty sane but ends up having his "other" hallucination later. Wont mention what it's about, don't want to ruin the story. Poor freck.

  • your so right, it's very important to read the book (first) to really understand the whole plot.

  • Beautiful. So realistic!

  • awesome movie

  • hm delusional parasitosis much?

  • What's the title of the music played?

  • he's olny hulucinating

  • Just from the few clips I've seen around, this movie kind of has a feel to it similar to Trainspotting with all the drugs that is. Anyone have the full movie?

  • download torrent of it

  • lol its an offensive term for a person who's is rude.

  • lurk moar noob

  • I'm a 15-year-old Spanish guy. That means: I don't speak English very well, so I don't know what does "Be a dick" mean.

  • What does "Be a dick" mean?

  • It's a fucking drama. Look for the synopsis.

  • I would say its a dark comedy and a drama as well. I love this movie you can get some dark laughs and then at the same time feel for the characters and feel the shit thats going on around them.

  • Wow, that wasn't sketchy at all :D

  • dramamine lol

  • actually the movie was shot in digital and then animated on top of it. so its a real movie with like a cover on top

  • robert downey jr's voice is so sexy.

    idk y but it is:)

  • this is making me very itchy ...

  • Such a brilliant movie.

  • the strange part is that hes only imagining those bugs

  • its cuz hes on freaken drugs, hes not just imagining it out of the blue

  • great and genius movie of the rick.i love.this first shoot freak me out a lot, hahahahaha.i hate bugs.

  • "drugs are bad! Message of the movie!"

Actually the message of the movie is that the people arresting everyone for drugs are the people also producing the drugs. Just like reality. Google CrackTheCia

  • ACTUALLY the point of the movie and the book is the interdependancy of cops and criminals and how symbiotic their relationship is. without one, the other would not exist. with cops, the criminals would not be "criminals" without the criminals the cops would be out of a job

  • Um maybe. But I think the movie is about a rehabilitation clinic that has censored the government in order to produce an extremely addictive psychoactive drug for profit in a dystopia caused by said drug, and major sacrifices an undercover police organization is willing to do to infiltrate the clinic that produces the drug. Money, conspiracy, drugs, and human lives.

  • Methead.

  • I can't find this movie -- my local video stores, wal-mart, local shopping centers, don't have it. They said : if it hasn't been translated in french, we don't have it. Sucks!! Gonna order it on line then!

  • did u guys know that the artists and animators had to hand draw every single frame?!

  • Erm lol, no they didn't.

Actually they filmed the base of it, like a normal film, then they used a program named rotoshop to rotoscope over the frames, which is basically tracing over the lines in each frame, but they leave colours in and stuff so it wouldv'e been very quick work.

I'm guessing that a single animator could've averaged about 11 frames a day?

  • BUT IT STILL GOOD!

  • Yes, I've read about that computer application program. Say friend, do you know whether or not if Rotoshop will be made available for animators like me to buy? I would sure like to get my hands on it.

  • To the contrary, I believe rotoscoping takes an extremely long time to do.

  • I agree. I made a 4-second-long rotoscope video, and the time I spent in that video was 'bout 3 weeks.

  • Brilliant.

  • dude...love thiss movie..drugs=NO!!

  • drugs are bad! Message of the movie!

  • Don't do drugs kids.

  • Hear, hear.

  • owned

  • loved this movie..saw it on shrooms..trrrrrrrrrrrrrrippy!!
