  • YES, THANK YOU FOR SAYING THAT HE REVOLUTIONIZED THE BASS, THIS IS MY HISTORY DAY PROJECT, HOW HE REVOLUTIONIZED IT, THANK YOU!!!

    ....I need to calm down.

  • I want to leave this earth the same way john did.

  • I wish John was still around creating music. such a fuckin amazing bassist. A monster musician

  • john entwistle was the best english bassist ever lived, his finger style influences me a lot, R,I,P to John,

we miss him and he still rocks in our hearts :-)

  • "You play the Fucking thing." You gotta love John.

  • @littlesirenboy Yeah lol. If that was almost any other bassist roger would have gone "alright fine, bass is easy" but because it was The Ox i bet he didn't have a clue.

  • good old ox

  • Turn on Transcribe Audio

  • his body stood still, his fingers were going nuts

  • The man who decided that the bass could lead a band. Thank you for your kick a*$ music John. It was clearly a great loss to John when Keith died. The Who was a band full of rock legends literally.

  • You can buy An Ox's Tale on Itunes for only 9.99. See John in his glory!!

  • 3:22 I guess he is teaching god how to play the bass guitar

  • Everyone else jumped around on stage and went crazy. He was in the corner with the classy coat and his bass. Just keeping that touch of cool. He keepin it cool and mellow

  • the guy looked quite old by the late 80s, and never really changed much after that

  • WRONG it wasent sleeping pills

it was pills to help the withdraw on Alcohol

  • John Entwistle is with Keith Moon, George Harrison, & John Lennon

  • I prefer to drink than drive. lol xD

  • The Who did NOT close the 2nd night . I was there . The Jefferson Airplane closed . Damned idiots can't get the history straight !

  • I was lucky to see them him performing with The Who in 1982. I learned a lot from him about being a bassist and I will miss him greatly. He was and still is the best performer of the instrument in all phases of music.

  • @ratsopunk greatest rock bassist maybe.

  • poor john r.i.p =-[

  • Entwhistle was a gun collector. Now... you gotta love a guy like that!

Long live the Whistle! No wimpy musician. Truly, a man's man!

  • I read somewhere there was period when fans would shout for Boris the Spider - which annoyed Pete. Boris the Spider, one of those songs considered an album filler, turned out to be a fan favourite!

  • At 1:30, is he saying "f**king" or "bloody"?

  • "I perfer to drink, not drive" - John Entwistle

    greatest quote EVER

  • @jbassman666 i totally agree. god if i had a chance to meet him......that would be so amazing

  • Comment removed

  • it wasn't sleeping pills it was pills he got to counter his alchohol addiction

  • Each member of the Who was so individual in talent and character that without one you don't have "The Who" However, I submit that Entwistle was the anchor of the band. Moon was crazy, Townshend was jumping all over windmilling, and Daltry was swing that mic like a cowboy screaming his lungs out. But, there was John just standing there like an "OX" holding the beat and melody.

  • LMAO@ Pete's BUSY writing his memoirs.

Yeah, 12 years later, still waiting on those.

  • woooot john!

  • 1:48 and thats why The Who had the greatest rhythm section of all time,

and the greatest rock band of all time.

  • This interview is soooo depressing. :(

  • kieth didnt die becouse of an over dose on sleeping pilles it was on pill for his drinking

  • there where all so tallented it amazing how all of them where in the same band

  • Are you FUCKING seroius ?

  • @poofybassplayer420

Died in bad with a stripper/Who groupie BEST WAY TO DIE EVER. Not even joking

  • @PhilmoreJenkins

I have to disagree, from a personal point of view. I mean John clearly loved being on tour and to die on tour is probably something he would have both loved the irony of and appreciated.

I see his death in 2002 as a waste, though. I can't help it. The band were just getting their stride back and BOOM, that shit goes down.

At any rate, love ya John. You and the band have certainly enriched my life.

  • Happy Birthday 65th John Entwistle, : )

    we miss you so much

  • ohhh what a prick!

  • Townshend is a great writer-one of the best rock's ever produced, but not a great technical player. Ox could and did go from rock to country to straight jazz with absolute ease and truly was a master of his instrument.

  • Pete Townshend is probably the greatest "all around", singer/songwriter/musician/producer/showmen ever. The only one to come close is Paul McCartney. Townshend is also a great guitar player. He can play ANY instrument with skill.

  • Can't sing though :p. I think The Ox was altogether the most talented.

  • Years ago he could sing but as he aged with heart problems he lost his voice. The early Who recordings he had a nice voice.

  • I meant Pete. Pete was often (and still is) off key quite a bit. Daltreys far and away the best singer, followed by John. But I'd say The Ox was the most talented of the four musically.

  • Entwistle may have been the most skilled with his instrument when compared to the other members of the band, even playing horns and piano, but he wasn't the best songwriter. It's hard to not give townshend that award.

  • @sebassucc i think they were amazing at each one of their instuments. john is my idol (i play bass too) and i remember when i first saw him play My Generation i was "i need to learn that"

  • When you look at the who, they were never the same after Keith died beacuse they lost alot of stage energy but really with the who, you need every single memebr to make the band up you know

  • Not knocking them after Moon died, just so the other comment didn't sound like i was lol

  • All four were the best at their respective instruments

  • bull shit, townshend wrote the whole of then and now.

  • Ya, He was a great writer, I was talking about his guitar playing skills.

  • What you mean power? OK! Townshend wasn't a Page,Gilmour,Hendrix, whatever, but he had plenty of power to make up for that!

  • I mean Stage prescience, I mean, the fact is, you have the greatest bass player of all time, one of the greatest drummers of all time, a amazing singer but your attention is still given to Townshend, thats an accomplishment.

  • Or a Lennon, Richards or Hodgson.

  • R.I.P John, thanks for some fucking great tunes,,,,

  • greatly missed..the greatest English bassist and gentleman

  • he's the greatest bassist of all time

  • @piraterice that is a HUGE over statement

  • @oOJimmySueOo How so? He set the standard..you have no argument my friend

  • @piraterice If you said bass guitarist I may understand, not fully but possibly. You said bassist. That's pretty broad really. I would count many bassists as in double bassists and bass guitarists as being better. I don't really care for ranking players but I just don't like misinformed judgements like saying someone is the greatest ever.

  • Comment removed

  • @oOJimmySueOo I would look into getting a life.Considering that my post was made over a year ago, and that you scrolled down that far to read posts is really sad, and a true statement to your pathetic life. Like I said you have no argument, you don't even make sense.

  • @piraterice Definitely!

  • @piraterice rock n roll history books say so anyway

  • "Bogey Man" from the the album "Music from Van-Pires" by The John Entwistle Band, recorded in 2000.

I believe it was originally written for the Who in the late 70s, but they didn't record it.

  • John and Keith recorded a demo for the song, and that demo was completed later by the John Entwistle Band.

  • @rykowolf What song is played, from which album at 3:50 ?

  • @pinkjoey3 The song's Bogey Man.

  • His 1981 album "Too Late The Hero" is excellent.

  • youre an idiot

  • "I prefer to drink, not to drive"

  • 3:21 Dead....

  • i cant even understand wtf hes saying

  • me too

  • "He still refuses to get a driver's license

    -I prefer to drink"

    xD

  • What about when you listen to Highway to Hell???

believe it or not.. Bon Scott is dead.. and he's singin' that song!

  • im positive there is no better bass player than this guy

  • i don't want to bitch around, but plz use the term "my favourite".

when player pass a certain degree of ability it's not possible anymore to say which player is better. it's just a matter of style. and in the case of a fan: the style you prefer

  • well the problem is is that he isnt my favorite.i just know from what i hear that he is considered one of the best bass players there ever was.thats what im trying to say

  • He collected antique cars and he couldn't even drive? I'm an Entwistle fan but that's just needless excess.

  • well some people collects antique cars just to look at them, they don't need to drive. in fact, I prefer beauty of a car rather than its speed :-/

I think Entwistle was just like me, I don't have any car, but I would buy it just for the eyes joy :D

  • Needless excess?! From a (the) rock n' roller(s)?! Unheard of!! LOL

PS: MANY people collect such and NEVER drive them. They COLLECT them...like stamps.

  • john was a pure authentic rock god and he checked out like one.

  • John TALKS like a bass guitar lol

  • WHICH IS PRECISELY WHY IT'S SO FUN TO LISTEN TO HIM TALK.

    ... alright I'm done now. :B

  • RIP Keith.. RIP John

  • Whzt's the song at 0:35 ?

  • the song is called who are you

  • Who are you

  • Aww...I love him and miss him soo much!

  • its kinda sad that the doctor, Jeffry Diamond i belive, never had to answer for his giving Keith a drug that was so powerful that it is only supposed to be used in hospital. No one hardly even usesd it anymore, it is so bad. He has said he doesn't really remember Keith. ???? How could you say you dont remember a rockstar like keith? He was, and has been covering for himself all these years. He is complicit in the death of Keith Moon.

  • @dumsfrie reminds me of michal jacksons death, except way less publisized

  • the pills moonie tooks were called Hemineverin, a medication to help him combat alcoholism. he took a total of about 32 of them. it disables the esophagus so he couldn't throw anything up.

  • I agree but for me if I'm geninely intersted and passionate about the music I can't but help to learn about the person and his life. It just seems like a logical progression.

  • 4:33

  • keith never died of sleeping pills...it was an overdose of pills designed to get him off alcohol.

  • Actually, they were animal tranquilizers, called Clomethiazole. 6 of them would have killed Keith. He took 32.

  • he took animal tranquilisers when he was drumming one night, but 'Hermeverine' killed him. They where a new 'wonder drug' to ease the desire for alcohol....he took way too many.rip.xx

  • Entwistle is the god of bass. Time goes on without him but his influence is permanent.

  • hey wait a second is john dead? because in the description it says A special feature on the LATE John Entwistle, bassis... I didn't knew he was death :S

  • ye he ied a bit ago, a sad death indeed, the greatest bassist ever

  • Come on....how could you not know Entwistle died? Are you even a Who fan?

  • yeah but not that much big fan I don't follow everything, but I really liked john's I'm even planing to buy a warwick

  • No, obviously not a big fan. His death was big news for Who fans and rock n' roll fans in general. Oh well, maybe you're young and you were in elementary school at the time.

  • I know you think this kind of knowledge is like a fan badge or something, but you don't have to know anything about someone to appreciate their music.

  • Unfortunately yes. He passed away a little over five years ago. It was all over the news for about a week after it happened and stayed news in the music industry for a couple months.

  • geddy and john rule all!!!!!!!!!!!

  • entwistle is definitely the greatist rock bassist ever. he is amazing

  • 1 Jaco

    2 Entwistle

    3 J Paul Jones

    4 Justin Chancellor

    5 John Myung

  • god i hate when people do a top 5 list. it reflects your bais and is obviously very opinionated. especially this one.

  • sept 11th FTW

  • Wha about Geezer butler, Stuart Hamm, Billy Sheehan, Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, Victor Wooten, Jack Bruce, Larry Graham, James Jamerson, Tony Levin.

Ur list is pretty fucked up if u don't have any of these guys in there.

Oh yeah and just to keep AndrewMon2008 happy u could have put Les Claypool in there.

  • i'd apprecaite that.

  • erm who is jacko? if you mean jack bruce, then hes not that good at all...

  • i think he means jaco pastorius or however you say his name.

  • Love John Entwhistle, The Who would of never been the same had they not had john. Most Influential and easily the Greatest Bassist ever. Keep Geddy Lee, Larry Graham, the bloke from Primus and all the other good tries, John rips all those bastards.

  • the bloke from primus???? LES CLAYPOOL MOTHAFUCKA

  • John Entwistle is my favorite bassist and geddy lee is the 2nd best in my opinion

  • its hard to believe a man this old died the way he did

  • He wasn't even that old. Still, stupid on his part.

  • Entwhistle and John Paul Jones are definitely two of the best bassists out there, both just lay down the perfect groove

  • wat about Geddy Lee who's I might add is better then John Paul Jones but not better then Entwistle

  • Second

  • see you cant say that kind of stuff. without entwistle and john paul jones, geddy lee (who came later) might have been a very different player.

  • Heart attack after a night of Cocaine and a hookers in Las Vegas. Never change, its Rock and roll.

Townsend still complains about his tenedencies of extremes. It gets in youre blood.

  • He was definitely the greatest bassist of all time.

  • I don't John was the best Bassist, because even though his stuff is great, Jack Bruce was juust incredible and his Bass almost came into melody.

  • wagwanali99 go screw yourself

  • I like his speaking voice - the way it sounds now. I wish I had sounded like him when I 13 years old...

  • lol you play the fucking thing.

  • yeah man. believe it or not, the dude had a temper. and i admire the hell outta him for it

  • this guy below me is know who fan and a mjor asshole

  • fucking retarded dumbass

  • a fucking unreal bassist !!! a definate influence to me and thousands alike...

  • wow wrong information needs to stop immediately. unless those comments a few down are referring to keith moon, then that is terribly wrong. keith died from the anti-alcoholism drugs, not john. john died from a heart attack brought on from cocaine use.

  • To all below the pills are called antabuse and are rarely deadly despite how much you drink. They make you immediately vomit up the alcohol you drink so they would have kept him alive. Keith basically drank and drugged himself to death and the antabuse was basically a complication and a media excuse. We all miss him but, like John, who I have met and partied with several times, brought it on himself...RIP!.

  • those werent the pills that keith O.D.ed with, it was something else, that when not supervised was very deadly. his doctor flipped out when he took 5, because he said that 3 could kill someone, keith unfortuneatly took pills in handfulls for his whole life and he took upwords of 30 that night.

  • john was even the hero of billy sheehan in playing bass, billy admitted that in his website. john entwistle is legend!

  • he didnt die from an overdose of sleeping pills. it was an over dose of stop drinking pills. i donno what there called.

  • yeah, a drug he was taking to help combat his alcoholism. He probably took it with booze, ironically.

  • I thought it was over coke. So what did he actually die from?

  • heart attack in hotel.

  • no thats Entwhistle

  • R.I.P. John

  • A cool bassist, with a cool name, a cool style and a cool voice. Thunderfingers was awesome.

  • What? Are you saying that Paul is a "Horrible Bastard"? Shut the fuck up

  • R.I.P

  • he was the best in the band....

  • John is greatly missed......such an innovator.

  • this is the first time i've heard him say more than two words together. i am dead serious.

  • It's actually the first time i've heard him say ANYTHING

  • i can believe it

  • R.I.P
