  • He was the original lead singer of Duran

  • I wish I was her in the video, Stephen was very kissable then!!

  • 80's STYLE!!!

  • I was eighteen in 1985... music is a matter of opinion but the worldwide recession and constant threat of nuclear annihilation kinda sucked.

  • @UKMikey I was a few years younger but remember both. The nuclear threat from then still gives me nightmares now. I blame the protect and survive programmes that damaged me.

  • oH, yeah, azul eléctrico, labios pintados de intenso carmesí, piel pálida y suave, cuero amarillo, gomina en el cabello, goma de mascar con sabor a cereza; vodka, besos y tus dedos fríos en mi cara.

  • God this brings back some memories, any one remember OMD and there hit's Enola Gay, and Maid of Orleans..

  • @CENTURION2501 I remember those songs, and those songs are one of my favorites.

  • I wish i was twenty in the 80's aswell... in berlin. i would be in an electro band with make up galore

  • born in 68,lived my teenage into adulthood life in the eighties and there has never been abetter time for music. this tune sums the 80's up to perfection, catchy electro pop. wonderfull!

  • lol.. this song just flashed me back to my clubbing days at the 321 club in Santa Monica, CA.

  • @Flyonthewall Lol, our club was RPM in Toronto...sure does bring back the memories of the 80's doesn't it?

  • I wish I was in my 20ies in the 80s

  • @CoverProductionz no you don't it was rubbish.

  • @CoverProductionz I was in my 20s in the 80s...just like today, some of it was awesome, some of it sucked. This was a cool song, though.

  • @CoverProductionz I was! it was pretty cool

  • @CoverProductionz Glad I was :)

    Wish I wasn't in my 50s now.

  • top tune, but the original '83 mix is superior!!

  • the song is so sweet

  • takes me back lol

  • dope song

  • is this the same that produced robbie williams?

  • "I've never tried to create a wow"

    hmm

  • Why have only 297713 people viewed this absolute classic? Love it!

  • The perfect pop song. Anyone who does not like this is an idiot. In a parallel universe this is the biggest hit song ever. Yes he was the original singer in Duran Duran. He also made a pop album with interludes by Nigel Kennedy. ANd he named an album after a roundabout.

He is A TRUE GENIUS AND WILL always be one of the greatest pop singer and writer Britain has ever produced. A billion times better than morrisey et al.

  • @forelockflick We know Stephen was DD's vocalist. He was in The Hawks before that!

  • @forelockflick Morrissey is my favourite of all time , SD is right behind him though !

  • wasnt he the original singer of DURAN DURAN?

  • @TheGrunge619 Lilac Time

  • 2,3

  • Fans of 80's electro... Depeche Mode, Erasure, Yazoo and basically any 80's New Wave MUST check out new band 'electro kill machine'. They are from Basildon, Essex...same town as Mode and Yazoo. Saw them last month in London and felt like I was transported back to the 80's!

  • I wouldn't have minded being the girl in the vid & rehearsing for who knows how long.

Love this song, but there's a way better vid where you see him very well.

  • "Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth; for your love is better than wine."

    King Solomon

  • one of the best tunes of the 80s

  • Just learnt he was the first lead singer of Duran Duran

  • Heres a lesson to all 22 year olds : take it all in and stop and smell the Roses as before you know it it will be year 2037 and you might remember 2011 as clearly as if it were just yesterday ! ; scary eh ?

  • @TheKenfig what's scary is that the present is as close to 2037 as to 1985! WOW!

  • @DJMimzy WOW! , glad you worked that out

  • I don't know if I should admit this , but I just found my vinyl copy of this singel..LOL

  • It's a silly song but I still like it :-)

  • i think stephen is a good songwriter but the ending of kiss me is cringingly pants

  • Love this song!! Brings back so many memories of my teenhood! This will always be one of my favorites.

  • omg.................x

  • Heard this today at work... I loved this song SO MUCH!

  • Happy memories of youth!

  • loved it when it was out... didn't age well. kinda sissy...

  • 14 people don't like to be kissed ;-) I've never heard this version, just the 12" version. I remember that remix playing on the radio... i taped it off the radio & those songs on that particular tape that particular school year ('89/90) got me through a frustrating season of track, which i wasn't very good at, boo. It helped me start appreciating 80s music though ;-)

  • This song reminds me of fish and chips.

  • @DaveWBedford Fish and chips ? lol

  • my loves this song

  • Preferred 70's to 80's on the whole personally - but this is a great 80's song... This is definitely the version I remember - but i supsect it was a re-release. First time round I dont think it made it...

  • Classic!

  • this is the vid mtv played in the 80s....yes, but it still looks cool!

  • They used to play a much earlier version at the Rum Rummer in Brum, when he was just called Tin Tin-any one know that dancier version????

  • Have you people heard Dirty Projectors' 'Two Doves'? It's quotes lyrics directly from this song.

  • Ooh ~ This guy was actually Duran Duran's original lead singer from the late 70s. I would've never even known that if I hadn't read into his biography.

  • On my top ten ever. Along with The Cult's "She sells sancutary," Lenny Kravitz "Let love rule" and the Smiths "How soon is now?"

  • Ah on the dole in early 1985 - happy days, Radio City in Liverpool played this a lot!

  • @qatopboy I STILL AM ON DOLE...........LOL 26 YEARS ON I AM ON REMPLOY EMPLOYMENT AGENY THO A SUPPOSE ITS SUMMAT.................

  • Comment removed

  • pure 80s

  • What ever happened to 'Tin Tin' ?

  • @degooser2000 he writes for Robbie Williams

  • Ok people...I can remember listening to this song at all our friends apt while on scoobies...jamming. The girls loved it! This was the pinnacle of early 80s club jam!

Makes you want to grab your girl and do just what he says.

  • This was played quite often on "The Wave KYYX" in Seattle...

  • The good old times.....

  • still one of my favourites

  • I had forgotten to remember this until today! Cool :-)

  • this song and artist seems to capture the verve of New wave at the time it came out really well without the sell out. The comercial vain is absent where so many groups spent it fast. I love seeing this come back these days but you got to dig to finf it!

  • They don't play this enough.....Good 80s song.

  • Wonderful video - I think one of the best forever

  • I wonder if he regrets not choosing to be lead vocals in Duran Duran??? kool tune tho

  • Such a great track this, Trevor Horn carried the great production here.

Again.... better one hit ,than no hits at all.

  • i cant get the cd of the ups and downs album can anyone know where i can get it pls email me about it someone thanks

  • great song - dont care for this re-mix, enjoy the original much more!

  • I think I had a seizure watching that... still a great vid though :D

  • 80's Cheese

  • Great - great 80's tune!! - 'happy daze'..........a great free & easy sound that flows.

  • Hey does anyone remember this wee forgotten song from the eighties? I bet the making of the video was nice and cheap lol

  • love this song.. but check out his other fab song `The icing on the cake`

  • i love this, its fab & i think i've still got it kicking abt on 12" sumwhere in my dads house!!

  • Fuck Me... this takes me back! Never mind the 1980's ... I remember King Solomon (Master of all Demons, and a real drunk, the hypocritical Shitty Bastard) writing these lyrics 3500 years ago.

    i.e.

Song of Solomon. Chapter 1. Verse 2.

"Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine."

  • still has the same impact on me as it did in the 80s,velvety lovelyness.

  • Stephen is the king of the pop song! If not for the 1980s, but now as pop songs do not change. Lady Gaga is great, but she is Madonna with less clothing! Which makes no difference!

  • @martaTFF Madonna is a total slut, never did anything original just cribbed emerging styles and claimed them. Lady Gaga is an artist and an original talent, please dont compare her to Maddona.

  • Great song, great voice, great times.......takes me back.....

  • one of the best songs from the new wave days

  • Best retro moment I had in the car this morning!

  • Love this song

  • Duran Duran ex singer

  • your love is better than wine

but wine is all i have

    lol

alex james would like this man.

  • Awesome and one of a kind. Simply CUTE!!!

  • OMG. Haven't heard this in a LONG time!! Loved it at the time ...

  • B-side is even more brilliant !!

  • @CollectorOfMusic

Not true,I've got an interesting12'" too,but this is just as good, more compact for radio play ,nothing wrong with that.

  • @CollectorOfMusic It's likely the original version-sounds like the 45 I have on vinyl.

  • wow this is a fab blast for the past bring back the 80's ...

  • totally love this, brings back so many memories, loved the 80s

  • I remember this song!!!!

I guess, at the time, he couldn't compete with Simon. Tall order for anyone in those days....

Only now discovering Duffy's solo work. Enjoying it quite a bit. INTERNET, used for good and evil.....good in his case.

  • duran duran original singer.............why the heck did he not carry on. did he feel the group werent to progress? answers on a postcard

  • Omg this tune is the dogs b*llox! I loved it then and i love it now!

  • I remember it well too; couldnt agree more. It's bloody good.

    Still stands up well today!

  • EXCELLENT xXx

  • I can't believe he was the original singer of Duran Duran!Thank God for Simon LeBon!!!!!!

  • So very much I've once thought gone forever, yet found on the 'Net :D

Love this track, tho when I first heard it in '85, I was puzzled as to what ELSE you could kiss someone with ;)

Before finding it here, I would have thought it was just a Duran Duran track on an album I don't have

    Very cool!

    =US=

  • @julieann1978 (cont.) I remember catching the end of this song in the car. Then GONE! URrrrgh! That was probably summer of 1989 or 1990. I was 13, and cursed with the knowledge of this song. RAKKING MY BRAIN! LOL!!! Oh I too love the INTERNET! LOVE IT! :D

  • Comment removed

  • @julieann1978

    OMG!

    LOL!!!

I think we both have/had the same EXACT PROBLEM for the past 2 and a half decades. I first heard this song on a roadtrip with my mother on the way to see my G-Ma in Corpus Christi, TX. If you have ever done that trip from San Antonio, back in the late 80's-1990. You would know that the radio signals (especially for stations that played Alternative/ New Age) flat-out got NO LOVE along that trip.

  • I'm down. I lived in southwestern ontario , canada during this time, I was a teenage virgin, and I had just heard about 'French' kissing when this song came out.

Oh the rivers of drool. I should have carried a bib.

The internet: Our greatest gift to ourselves since the printing press and birth control...

  • Be fair, music video had only just come out then. All we had was this cartoon animaton, color flashes but it was new to us. I take it you are from 80's/90's ?

  • ahhhh snoging - nice

  • i just love it! 80s forever

  • Just listening to this on Sirius 1st Wave. I love the Christmas Eve reference, always puts a happy smile on my face during the holiday season. Loved the 80's!

  • cool song! The 80´s a decade with the best songs ever.........

  • there are some great songs in the 60s and a few in the 70s but the 70s songs are more forgotten than the music from the 60s.

  • Guys! the ending is a reference to Andy W.!!! Check it out! The very last dude....

  • Fabulous single from junior school days! I still have the 12" single for this in a box somewhere. I'll have to go dig it out now.

Thanks for posting the vid - I never did see it at the time. I think it was the summer of1985? Wonders of youtube!

Check Icing On The Cake too, another fine Stephen Duffy tune. Lovely.

  • i loved that song!!

    the 80´s...the best songs...best everythings!!

  • Amazing song, one of my favourites, but this version is TERRIBLE!

You need to listen to the 1982 version - it's less poppy and more dancy/underground, fantastic!

There are a few videos of the 1982 version floating around YouTube - just look for the ones that are 7 minutes long!

  • I have that version on an old tape. It's WAY awesomer than this version!

  • นี่สิ เพลงชั้นดีที่คนไทยควรฟัง 80's forever dude....

  • Kiss me with your mouth

Your love is better than wine

But (white) wine is all I have

Will your love ever be mine?

  • yes yes good song yes yes yes good song yes yes i like yes yes ok

  • class song.

  • super!!! 5*****

  • I was 19 and this song followed me & my sister round every single pub & club in Spain at the time, she died 4 weeks suddenly so Im remeninscing thanks for posting rip Donna

  • My condolences... Nostalgia is a potent thing. But I hope your sister looks down with a smile.

  • thanks but for some reason music we shared is keeping me going n making me smile x

  • Oh that's so sad, I'm really sorry for you. Funny how music evokes so many memories isn't it? Bet your sister will be glad you're listening to this and thinking of her....take care x

  • God bless you!

  • anyone has his song Hold It???

  • Ahh 17 years old back then, trouble sometimes I still think Iam ..always liked this song but back then as a Smiths fan I kept that a secret !

  • Dear God! I was 22 when this little gem was released!

  • and i was 25

  • Sorry for making you show your age! lol! I really miss those heady days of youth when nothing mattered except where your next piss up/legover was coming from!

  • Damn! i was 10 lol

i somehow remember this tune well :)

  • Hey,don't feel so down,mate...I was 21! Ahh,those long lost Summer days of the 80's...sigh!

  • A better video would have made this song a bigger hit

  • Yeah, the video is a little weak. He should've made it more in the spirit of "Icing on the Cake." Now that was a great video!

  • classic pop song.

  • The biggest mystery to me was why this song (especially the earlier version) was never one of the defining hits of the 80s. It had everything required to fit the bill--toe-tapping beat, catchy tune, and a quirky, memorable chorus.

Seriously, this song should've joined the ranks of "Like a Virgin," and "Everybody Wang Chung Tonight" as one of those ubiquitous (ableit overplayed) songs that everyone thinks of when they think of the Eighties. Instead, it just slipped into oblivion.

  • It was a defining hit for me. Loved it then and still love it now. Guess we've just got good taste *grin*

  • There was LOADS of track from this era that were completely ignored...I guess it was a time of ''I WANT IT NOW!!!'' and the attention span of most Pop fans were VERY short...

  • so the alternative duran duran sounded like this?

  • Oh the memories! One of my all time favorite club songs from the 80's! The best!!!

  • ah, the first single i ever bought :D

  • Comment removed

  • I don't even have wine, lol.

  • love it, always did. thanks to whoever put this on.

  • steven duffy is my uncle

  • Cool! Although you spelled his name wrong.... He's the music teacher at our school.

  • during my deejaying years i used the 12" u s remix- it was the mix used in nearly all the clubs- much better than the chart version

  • this song is too much! but i like it! just got it as my ringer from complimentaryringer. com

  • omg sorry but this is horrible

  • no, it's what ordinary people sound like when they are in love

  • DJ Chris Puppydog Shephard played the 12" dance mix on 12-31-88 in downtown Toronto it was part of the best '80 dance mix I ever heard. Rock on!

  • I have a 12" dance version on mp3 if you would like it :)

  • I would certainly like it. This has been one of my favorite songs since I first heard it when I was at Numbers in Houston some twenty years ago.

  • Start with "Language In Disorder"

  • I have something for you. An obscure band called the RipChords. I have posted some of their music from 1983-1985 when Tin Tin was playing at all the University stations.

  • thank you ,i've been racking my brains trying to remember who sang this song . tunes been going round in my head

    brilliant thanks again x x
