  • Ayutthaya is the old capitail of Siam (Thailand).

  • That's "Ayutthaya" not "Siam"

  • very interresting video

  • Looks like the axe handle battles we played in the backyard of my g'ma's house when I was kid back in MO.

  • Haha he loosk kinda funny with the Mong Kon on his head

  • whenever I practice out back with foot gear and thai shorts people driving by stare at me

  • same with those boxing shorts...people look at you if your a rare item!

  • i am proud to be able to call myself a swordsman i studied a european system for the longsword.

  • kool i do Spanish fencing, not the same thing but still from Europe

  • That is the basic origin, if people knew history they would not negative you. Bodhidharma was a black Indian Dravidian, his art developed from Egyptian and Sudani styles. Look up Silambam for any doubters and research the history.

  • Martial arts come from where fighting man come from.

  • thai sword fighting you do block using the blade.

thai sabers arent as thick or well forged as japanese swords so the side could not be used to block.

certain sword styles reflect the weapon they use. you cant compare thai sword fighting to japanese... waaaaay different

  • russia? lol that crack must be damn strong lol

  • I'm so sorry!! But this's bullshit!!!

  • what crack have you been smoking?

  • Pancrase is not the same as Pankration. Pancrase is a Japanese wrestling organization. Pankration is an ancient greek martial art recently revived. In the old times the only things you couldn't use were biting and eye gouging. Now there are more rules but it's still bareknuckle fighting.

  • Pankration was quite similar to the MMA of today in the sense that it involved both boxing and wrestling, and that it was possible to win by either submission or KO. I don't really know why I even brought it up...

  • you really don't think people could figure out how to hurt one another physically without the guidence of a indian guru? In the old olympics they had pancrase, which is quite similar to todays MMA. I don't think it took anything but a bit of thinking and some practice to work it out. Kicking people in the head though, that an asian invention as far as i understand it...

  • sure? Even Acient Roman Combat techniqes? Or Greek Wrestling?

  • I'm sorry...did he just say that Japanese martial arts use the flat of the blade to block?

  • well you sure don't block with the blade. Its usually the side or back of the sword used for deflection and blocking.

  • kinda like Filipino Kali

  • The art was probably its own in the beginning but during the times many martial artists from other nations have come to Thailand so it's probably a mix of just about everything. I don't think there are many martial arts where all techniques are completely "homemade". And if there is such an art, it sure isn't a positive thing. Having a multitude of techniques and influences only increases the possibilities of a martial art.

  • so you guys believe that a martial art of 5000 years old has stolen moves from kenjutsuu and chinese wushu ?

    WAKE UP

is the most older martial art today

  • I never heard of blocking with the side of blade!

I thought every sword art blocked with the edge of blade...

    The alternative is just stupid.

  • You are not a swordfighter are you? The side is used when possible, or with Chinese jian we avoid blocking altogether as much as possible.

  • The little I Know about swordfighting I learn from a japanese sistem, and I was never taught to block with the side of the blade, plus, there is the risk of breaking the blade and is not very practical, at least not with a two hand grip. But hey, every system is diferent. What system of swordfighting do you practice?

  • I did Iaido forms shortly,so don't really know how they'd would block in most Japanese arts. I doubt folded steel will break. I play Chinese,Silat,Kali and western. Filipino Kali will sometimes use a blade. Most styles I know either redirect, parry, touch the arm instead of the blade, or use the lower part of the blade for a block if we must. We want to preserve the cutting edge. Yes there are many styles and all must work or they wouldn't have been used in wars and still trained in today.

  • I´m curious, your nick suggests you´re a woman. Are you? Were are you from?

  • Nope, that's the name of my music group, it means Sun in Bahasa Indonesia language.

  • Really? I always thaught Matahari ment "Eye of the Sun". from "Mata", eye and "Hari" sun.

  • Close, Mata = Eye and Hari = Day, so it would be eye of the day in the old way. But in Indonesian language Matahari as one word means Sun. The roots are Sanskrit.

  • the thai-man :D is maken lightsaber noise :D

  • but starwars came as a mix of kenjutsuu and chinese wushu. it mixed forms of the katana and shuangshou jian.

  • Shame it's so out of sync.

  • muay thai and kickboxing are both different arts

  • But modern kickboxing came from muay thai after a Japanese guy saw the Thais in action. He got kicked out of Thailand for insulting Muay Thai and that's how kickboxing ended up spread throughout the world. So Crudelli is right when he says that krabi krabong is the mother of both, although he maybe didn't know it.

  • I guess Chris needs to study a bit more on how the Japanese use their sword to block.

    Still, Nice clip!

    Thanks!

  • I think his point was they don't use the blade to block which is true.

  • the art of Krappy

  • i like to see you last against me...don't start insulting other people's tradition without actually fighting or trying it

  • thats why thai martial arts are deadly. They train like it is the real thing

  • The Thai's are hardcore. They're patriotism and loyalty to the king is unsurpassed anywhere in the world, and it wasn't that long ago that they came out of the jungle, so that would be a great place to merge your training with higher consciousness. I lived there, but spent my time on the beaches and in the bars :) Hindsight is 20/20 :)

  • can someone give me the name of this music

  • ... oriental music?

  • Nice... Got interested in Krabi Krabong from the Dog Brothers... Fascinating, for sure...
