  • lookin at it now

  • Who can help me ?! I'm searching for the bass tab of this song and I can't find it out, if someone can save me ... :)

  • YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

  • It´s really amazing. I love the sound and the fuckin´ drive. And they must be one of the first bands who used fuzzbox on the lead guitar. One year earlier 1965 it was very few bands who used that equipment. For example check up THE ZETTLERS and their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah". The guitarsound is clean, raw and honest. I rally love it. And the band (The Zettlers)..........."formidable"!!!

  • Wasn't the other Chicago band of the time Shades of Knight with the song "Gloria?"

  • Ah! These guys were around the Chicago suburbs in the 60's. I think my sister brought me a nylon-tipped drum stick their drummer threw out during a concert (I was learning drums at the time), in Glenview or wherever. I lived in Winnetka.

  • Psychedelic? Sounds like they were more a precursor to Heavy Metal. Great tune for that era.

  • groovy chicago!

  • I love this place and this band. How many Chicago bands can we forget? Somebody post something on the beloved Nightshades.

  • Heavy. The singing sounds a lot like blue cheer.

  • I have this single--bought in 1966 or early 67- great song

  • @rocknrollwerewolf It;s here now, it's posted up!! : )

  • This is truly classic. Detroit psychedelic - has that hard edge. Love it. Thanks!

  • @clarkewi they were from the chicago area

  • So glad to be from NE Ohio, now in Paris, turning people onto this stuff. Crazy Pages and Plan 9 also Fleshtones did songs about me, I was so honored. xo Lisa Falour cutecatfaith d com

  • i will have to agree with hawkmoon03111951 about the guitar solo, this is absolutely "mr you're a better man than i"

  • did any of you ever hear the Stairs cover this in early/mid 90s? fantastic version

  • Great 60's psych. I've got a Dunwich comp called "The Best of Dunwich Records Volume 2: If You're Ready!" and wish this was on it. I need to buy the 10" EP but funds are tight. Dang.

  • Think the guitarist has heard 'Mister you're a better man than I' by the Yardbirds. That solo has several lifts from Beck's solo.

  • @hawkmoon03111951 i was recently reminded of this the gu8itar player w2as a thief but he confronted ted nugent for using this riff injourney to the center

  • I remember this! Lived around there, then. Had a metal-bodied drumstick from their drummer once -- he threw it into the audience, and my sister caught it, nylon tip. Lobed that drumstick. Used it in my right hand!

  • All the crap on tv about the 60s is either the swingers or hippies or some unrealistic chearful functional family life. I've heard OF the del-vetts but never experienced the pre "Hippy" movement because I was like barely born. this is the pre punk/glam period to me. The original Glam.. not that 80s hair crap. Most of that was just vanity and noise. If you don't agree with me that's fine.. it's just my opinion. But you can go f*** yourself :D

  • see: Os Velhos da Montanha

  • Thank you this is bad ass!

  • They sound like they are doing Arthur Lee's Love but just not nearly as well. But still a pretty good song.

  • Fuzz!!!

  • Super great!!!

  • @rocknrollwerewolf like a fuzzy fighter jet in my head. Have you heard Action women by The Litter?

  • love it love it i loveit nuggets disc 2

  • What a sweet bass line, so cool.

  • It's kind of an amazing fuzz guitar play for a mop top band like this. Are you sure it's not some session guitarist like Beck or Page behind this?

  • Oh God ... does anybody remember THE CELLAR, the rock club behind Bill Cook Buick in Arlington Heights, IL, ... where I saw CROW, the Del Vettes, Bubble Puppy, The Ides of March, Butterfield Blues Band, Joe Kelly Blues Band, Howlin' Wolf, Rhinocerous, Aorta ... and others ... with rock DJ Joel Sebastian, and the (rarely-used) full-screen color organ behind the stage?

God, I could name names ... so this is Bill Dunlavey calling .... for a different kind of yearbook.

  • WOW ! Saw them play @ Maine East,Park Ridge,IL they all drove Corvettes into the Field House parked, ran on stage and Jammed great high school flash back....great music...But then it was CHICAGO!

  • Last time I hear these guys was.... uh,.. never.

  • The Del vets also were known as The pride and Joy . Jim Lauer is my cousin. His Mom Is my moms Sister. They used to rehearse in our living room in Northbrook.

  • @clubford00 Jim Lauer was my room-mate for a short while during 1970. I am looking for Paul Wade. The last time I saw him he was very depressed and I think I was pretty abusive. I have wanted to apologize ever since.

Any clue as to his where abouts??? All a long time ago. Jim, I and 3 other guys had a big apartment with a PA system stereo. It was over a Dr.s office in Deerfield. Lots of pot and acid, not the greatest atmosphere for Jim I think. I was known as Jeff Walté then.

  • @clubford00

    TRU-DAT!

  • Bass line Kills!!

  • Great sound man, lovin this choon!

  • hard rock

  • The Del Vetts played regularly at The Rolling Stone, in Winnetka- they were the best around in 1965-66...then along came the BUCKINGHAMS....!

  • Digging this in a big way!!! How the hell have I never heard this before??????????

  • great one !!! love it !!! :)

  • That photo is from the cover of LIFE magazine - the Del Vetts were on the cover in 1966, for a feature article on the Chicago rock 'n' roll / discotheque scene. A great issue, if you can find it, I recommend it. There is also an ish from '67 with pics of the Velvet Underground. A great, overlooked classic song...

  • Great Garage

  • I am seriously diggin' this fuzz... Thank ya kindly for the upload!

  • Win.

  • I dug it man!...I dug it!

  • Dig the fuzz!

  • AWESOME!!!

  • ya had to be there.......

  • Groovy sound...

  • I agree Ox,very menacing, but its a little too polished, well executed ,and catchy to be considered garage punk in my book, although most people would call it that.

  • Surely a great tune!

But it doesn't strike me some much as a punk song, not even the proto-punk, as they know way too well how to play their instruments to be punk :P Well, actually it's that they have a professional approach to the music and that's certainly not something punk aspired to. I'd say they dabbled somewhat in heavy rock, the sound is truly menacing, not unlike Black Sabbath's. Though this song has no obscure ocultism in it and so wins on impact scale alot more for me :)

  • You are right on.

  • This is one my favorite guitar sounds! so ballsy!

  • PUNK ROCK!!

  • beatnicks and mods... notpunk.. in fact ever hear the exploited song about beating up mods... definately not punk lol when you grow up and learn some more about music and scenes youll know the difference..punk is over rated by kids.. none of the bands are even credible anymore.. only good bands left are the subhumans everyone else called it quits ..except exploited vice squad and the adicts lol most of the "old" bands still performing dont even have original members lol stoptrying to revise punk

  • Here here!

  • NOT!

  • gave it a universe of stars, my little darlins!

  • awesome---haven't heard this is eons....been hoping someone has, and would post The Knaves' Leave Me Alone....more mid 60's Chicago garage punk ( I assume they're also from Chicago anyway)....I remember hearing em on the radio there about the same time as The Del-Vetts

  • Thanks for your help, I totally appreciate it! As a matter of fact, I had gone to our main public library here in what used to be the capital of Flower Power, San Francisco and being the opened minded fun loving being that I have always been picked up on Nuggets 1965-1969 (or some time like that) psychedelic rock and found a whole lot of bands I've never heard of, The Lyrics being one of them. I'm really into verses.

  • Please, excuse that last comment, but maybe no one has posted The Lyrics?

  • Anyone know the name of this group who's lyrics go something about : 'you're rich so what!'

  • I believe you're referring to the 1965 single "So What!" by the San Diego group The Lyrics.

  • You are an excellent being, Rocknrollwerewolf. I thank you.

  • @rocknrollwerewolf Thank you.

  • @Khultan would you like me to post both sides of that very record?

  • @oldschoolhero66

     Yes, please : )

  • the Del-Vetts "That's the Way It is" is also an all-time classic...

powertrust71 -- the song "Red Sky at Night" is by The Accent (single: Decca F12679). You can find it on the "Chocolate Soup" comp (and probably elsewhere).

    Thanks 'wolf for posting!

  • a freind ove mine had a shit load ove albums called nuggets..like they where released as volumes..this is where i heard it...im trying to find a song called red sky at night,i think...red sky at night sheperds delight, red in the morning sheperds warning.thats all i know but it was on a nuggets compilation..

  • you mean "red sky at night" by the accent, a british group from '67-68. it's on youtube and last fm.

  • thank you kind sir...a brillant song

  • This is one of my favorite 60s Garage

Bands!! I love the two Best Of Dunwich

    cds that Sundazed put out.

  • on les trouve aussi sur des fabuleuses compiles GARAGE du label sundazed .........FABULEUX

  • I own this song in a garage-rock 13 CD box-set paid for the price of 2 CD... This track is excellent.

  • This song is amazing. Are Del-Vetts records hard to find?

  • The 3 original Dunwich singles are becoming increasingly harder to find but I've found a couple at record shows and stores. However, Sundazed Records released a 10-inch vinyl of all their songs last year which you should be able to find no problem.

  • Thanks! I should try looking for it, it'd be fun to play at parties.

  • They appear on some of the Pebbles compilation albums now available on cd, hope that helps.

  • This song and band (The musicianship is indeed far beyond most of their then peers) is a sonic and audio gem. A true work of time spectrum genius. The song is 2:42 seconds of musical history.

  • Fantastic fuzztone and bass!

  • Wasnt Jimmy Lauer the lead singer for these guys(?) and Jack Burchell was the bass player.... dang thats going back in time.

I remember going to the dance joint on Waukegan Rd. just north of Deerfield Rd. Cant remember the name of the place...I will though as soon as I post this

  • Chi town for life.....! ! !

  • Yes, Jimmy Lauer was the lead singer. I grew up with Jimmy way back when in Deerfield. I also went to see them play as much as I could - and the place you are talking about was called the Pink Panther. I still have my ID card. I went almost every weekend.

  • @kathymoore510 Did you know Paul Wade. I am trying to locate him.

  • dam good sound, want to get this now, great upload

  • fuzz my day,man

  • Superb. I've been looking for this for a long time. Cheers.

  • brilliant!

  • Proper retro sound, Nice .......

  • Cool! I've never heard of the track or the group before a YouTube friend 'favourited it. It's brilliant! Thank you for posting.

  • Wow, is Bary Mraz any kin to Jason Mraz the singer? If so then I'd be related to him so just wondering if he is a relative. I'd never heard this song before but it's a good one. Thanks for posting this...

  • Note: I meant "Benny Mardones" not Benny Margolis in the post below.

  • Love this tune, my favourite from the whole Nuggets box set!

  • Pure proto-Punk glory.

Fuzz me baby, fuzz me good.

  • Great fuzz monster from Dunwich. Thanks for the post.

  • I0ve got this on a colured vinyl compilation album(Pebbles)great stuff,love it.

  • One of my all-time fave garage/punk tracks! Ah, 1966.

  • GRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT!!!!!!!!!!

  • The best band in the north and northwest suburbs of Chicago in 1965-66. The Del-Vetts played at teen night clubs throughout the Chicago area. Their versions of "Still in Love with you Baby" by the Beau Brummels and "I Call Your Name" by the Beatles were better than the originals. This song is inspired by the Yardbirds so it is late in the canon. I'd love to see some of the early stuff that the Del-Vetts played at the New Place in Algonquin. What a great group!

  • Love to Love this Song each & everyday. Check out Nervous Exits. You'll Love'em too. Steph/ Austin, Tx

  • Wow..these cats would have been one of the best garage punk bands of the late 60's..wish I'd been old enough to see them..their fuzz guitar is awesome!! Being from New Zealand we had some very cool garage bands of that era...check out The La De Da's

  • Ah that's where The stairs got that intro/riff from! Brill.

  • I use to play The Del-Vetts and all the cool 60's Punk bands on my radio show in Chicago! Vic Bannon and Chicago Gold on 104.7 SUPER CFL!

  • @HemiVic Hemi vic I am looking for original member Paul Wade. Any clue as to his where abouts???

  • Wonder if any of them became vetts. My puppy is ill.

  • This is one of the greatest slabs of sonic power ever! What a vibe!C-Sonic,ADF

  • These guys were the best around. Played every song as good as, or better than the original version. In the "Battle of the Bands" they played against the Shadows of Knight at Loyola University-they both played Gloria (Them-written by Van Morrison) and the Del-Vetts put the Shadows to shame...played it better as judged by the crowd. Last I heard they changed their name to The Pride and Joy and went out to San Francisco and obscurity. Anyone else confirm or deny?

  • Being from Chicago I really hear alot of this band and deservingly so, Last Time Around is one of the best Garage tracks around!

  • Wow. I looked up the Del-Vetts just for fun, never expected to actually find 'em on here! That'll teach me to underestimate the users of YouTube! :D

  • classy responce from a 12 year old,I'm guessing?

  • Not a bad tune for for the time era. Sound like a slight rip off from something, but I just can't recall now.

  • Not a bad tune!? Go choke on a apple you f@*kin' Beatle FREAK!

  • ted nugent stole this riff for journey ttcoy mind

  • That doesn't surprise me in the least.

  • @apple1953

When they came out with this it was in a class by itself.
