  • I can't believe anyone could keep up that hi-hat pattern for three and a half minutes. That's some RSI inducing stuff right there. Worth it though.

  • this is some retro futurism right here - 50's rock roots are clearly reflected in the guitar line and references to 'johnny b goode', while the song is accented with a synth line and myers' manic, robotic drumming

  • Best band to come out of America since Buddy Holly & The Crickets. Shame Devo did not stay in this dark more menacing. style. Incredible.

  • they are so ridiculously good musicians, lyricists, and have an epic music movement... this is an original/different piece because it is DEVO... NONE OF THEIR MUSIC SOUNDS LIKE THIS, but not TWO songs of their songs are alike... WE ARE DEVO!!!

  • The drumming in this would be so difficult to play, so many props!

  • reminds me of being an 9 year old boy smoking stolen cigarettes listening to his older brothers 7" records ....bliss

  • He's lip-synching.

  • @FraterSoddi No way, maybe the audio and video is a bit off, this is pretty old but this is live, these guys were great musicians, this show is freakin' incredible.

  • @FraterSoddi I actually thumbed you up. neways hes not lipsynching at all. The whole thing is live...the synth sounds completely different from the studio version

  • this is amazing

  • great punk days of 77-78 i had this on a compilation cassette back then

thought it was awesome and still do!!

  • This song is about JFK

  • @jwild611 i thought it was about johnny b. good.

  • @Alphabex8 In "Devo: The complete truth about de-evolution" the commentary for the music video mentions it was about JFK. Now there is a line that says "Jonee be good" in this song which is a play on the Chuck Berry song but the song as a whole is about JFK.

  • @jwild611 cool. i need to watch that video

  • Devo rocked

  • old times great fun!

  • its all Johnny Walkers fault i fell in love with this band... this track was played on the late night show......an instant hit.

  • Bob 1 does some seriously tasteful shit in this song.

  • It should be ... 'Come back Johnny' ! Theres not many Jonee's out there.

  • FUCKING EPIC!!

WTF else could even TOUCH this in 1978? Not much STILL can!

GaragePunkSynthPop all in one bizarro package.

I love you, DEVO, and I always will..

  • thanx cosmotype

  • WE ARE DEVO!!!!!!!

  • Can you, please, upload the video for their song?

  • D.E.V.O.

    yup

  • No one rocks black dolphin shorts like D-EVO.

  • the weird VCR distortion mid-way is perfect. Are we not men?

  • Comment removed

  • I´m still a Devoist. Gary Numan Kraftwerk

    Klaus Nomi forever.

  • I know I keep leaving this same comment everywhere but when they came to Vancouver (Oh... Canada) the first time we really didn't know what we were getting into. We kind of knew they were weird and cool but we had not seen them in performance. Before the show they had their techies play a few of their new "videos" on a 16mm projector system with the screen over the stage.

  • The result being that after all that we had became instant DEVOites and went nuts from the moment they hit the stage to the final encore. Brilliant marketing/promotion tactic. One video they played was "Come Back Jonee" where they are performing in what looks like a country bar or night club and are dressed in weird mock cowboy costumes. This was the first mosh pit, slam dancing and pogoing we had yet seen. One of their best IMHO

  • That Come Back Jonee video in the bowling alley is one of my all-time favorites. It's on the "Complete Truth About De-evolution" DVD.

  • @panther105 that was the roxy in hollywood just down the road from the whisky a go go..also the consert scene from up in smoke was also filmed there

  • thank you Cosmotype for this!!! one of the best live Devo shows ever!

  • Mark is shaking his shoulders in an attempt to impersonate a rock singer at the time. I can't think of who it is though, anyone have a clue?

  • This is the clearest and best sounding version of Jonee i've heard on here. Is this from a live DVD?

  • I want to know that too, and coincidentally, I'm trying to find out who was the singer that Joe Strummer adopted the shaking leg from?

  • The leg shake i think is pure Elvis Presley. Now that i am looking at Mark again here, i think the shaking shoulders is a crooner like Frank Sinatrea. Not Sinatra, but someone from his era.

  • This may not be right, but in the late 70s there was the Original It's Saturday Night Live aired from New York city and there was comic actor Dan Akroyd and comedian Steve Martin who portrayed two guys from Europe now living in NYC wanting to party and they called themselves 'two wild and crazy guys' and they both would shake their shoulders and sway from the hip back and forth in flower print long sleeve shirts and platform shoes.

  • DEVO are pure ROCK AND ROLLIN!

  • Everyone should get You Tube Downloader and copy this before WMG makes it go away forever

  • THAT'S PUNK IFFIn' I EVER DID SEE

  • This KICKS ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that it does

  • There should be a Devo comic or film. I personally would think it'll be great.

I'm serious. Imagine. It could be called 'The smart partrol'. Imagine Buckaroo Banzai, but more bizarre, smarter, and more relevant.

  • Ah, this makes me smile. These guy were and still are great!

  • true originals

  • awesome

  • Sweet. I can't believe it's been 30 years. I still think Gut feeling is their best tune.

  • Gut Feeling is the best song ever written!!!

  • Simply Sublime.

  • ya got ta love em anfd leave them...some times decieve em...

school discos would never be the same...

    Thank you DEVO

  • Ultra-awesome.

  • You made us cry!

  • Extremly Devawesome at that!!!!

  • Round 'em up!!

    It's fucking DEVO people!!!
